  1. That is a great spot especially if you have a kayak and travel up stream. Bream on the flats and I caught my biggest whiting ever there at 46cm on a popper! Plenty of flathead usually but I frequent the area in February/march. I hope you enjoyed your holiday!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

I didn't realize that spot was so productive especially with a 46cm whiting on a popper! And yes it was an amazing holiday great to get a way from the city for a while

  2. G'day raiders,

Coming to the end of my annual family holiday on the Mid North Coast, i decided to go for one last fishing session in Lake Cathie, south of port Macquarie. Set up shop on the west side of the bridge on the Northern banks and found a nice gutter past the sand flat drop-off. Fishing on light gear and prawns i began my quest targeting Flathead with ideal conditions ( outgoing tide and no WIND!) but to no success. After what seemed like 100 casts with no bites, all i got was an oyster cut and a stick through the bottom of my foot which sent me on the verge of rage. With the tide running out fast and the current moving ruthlessly, i noticed a school of baby whiting stalking the flats which gave me a glimmer of hope. After another disappointing 1/2 hr i got my first bite which made my head spin as a grin broke across my face. I played the bites smoothly before i felt weight on my line in which i began to slowly wind. After a VERY easy fight i found the culprit, a nice but small whiting. It measured 28.5cm and enjoyed slapping my kidneys a quite a few times. I released him back to join the other bait pickers and live another day. After a few more casts i decided to call it a day. Although it was a pretty disappointing day not catching my beloved Flathead's and putting up with painful feet ( Bloody oysters and sticks), it ended up being a good day outdoors in the sunshine which i believe it's all about.
