  1. the most frustrating thing on earth.

It's that frustration (and the odd mass dusting) that makes kings (and pigs for that matter) so addictive, its "fair" fishing, cause there is every chance that you will not win!

  2. You can quite easily get a 20 litre drum of fresh pilchards in under an hour (legally) in Sydney on a bait jig.

they dont stay alive that well but it can be done.

  3. Both are great baits the frogmouths are the smaller of the two. They would be illegal to catch as you

would have to use a net.

You dont need a net to catch pillies and it certainly isn't illegal

  4. I use voip exclusively for all my local and national calls.

No monthly contract, no monthly account fee. Just pay for the calls and nothing else.

Calls are a flat 10 cents untimed anywhere in/around Australia.

International "top 40" is 4.9 cents per minute and calls to mobiles is 29 cents per minute.

I get billed once a month for calls made in that monthly cycle and it is usually only around the 3-5 dollar mark.

No problems whatsoever with call quality and I also have all my cordless phones hooked up to it.

    cheers

I'm the same Hooky, all my outbound calls are via voip, and the savings i have made allowed me to upgrade to an 8mb/s internet connection :1prop:

  5. What really annoyed me yesterday was when I crossed the channel to get back to the car. A small boat was coming out of Ohmas Bay, nice & slowly, towards me. Tide was coming in fast, so if I stopped paddling, I would have been half way to the Wallamba in no time flat, so I continued in a straight line to the shore. I assumed this bloke would do a loop behind me to get into the channel.

    What does he do?

He speeds up and goes in front of me, creating a huge wave that then washed over the front of the kayak, wetting me! I said 'Thanks Mate' in a very sarcastic voice & he actually waved at me, thinking I was being complimentary! Then I got annoyed!

Lots of people slow down when they see a moored boat or a kayak, just out of courtesy. Most, unfortunately, don't - & continue at speed. I'd love to see them on the highway - I bet they don't stick to the speed limit there, either - & just hope they cop lots of fines!

Next time you are in your car - try driving at 6-8km/hr & see just how slow it really is! You might be surprised!

What happened about powered boats having to give way to non-powered boats? Or does this only relate to yachts??

    Cheers

    Roberta

yeah its common courtesy rather than rules that should apply! however the guy mentioned may have been breaking the law!

"You must keep 30 metres from any person or anything in the water when you are travelling at 10 knots or more"

  6. saw the other topic, got off topic a little and locked, thought this may clear up the rules, a simple but clear statement from the Saltwater Fishing Handbook (2006) :

Please note that although you may clean fish by gilling and gutting you must not alter the length of fish by filleting or removing the head until you are well away from the water. This rule does not apply at areas normally used for cleaning of fish (boat ramp cleaning tables) or if fish are for immediate consumption or immediate use as bait, or for fish that do not have a legal length.

  7. fisherman I challenge you to find someone even online in a forum that has had an outboard damaged from a lack of flushing. Most commercial operators or police, coast guard etc... never flush their motors, granted they use them very regularly so corrosion never has enough time to take place, but my point was that missing the odd flush is no major drama.

Agreed that missing the odd flush will not hurt, I have a mate who runs a barge business and he has NEVER flushed one of his outboards for the above reasons, they are used so often that corrosion wouldnt be a problem.

  8. Sensational photos The_Lure. :biggrin2:

Congrats on some lovely captures there mate, you must be very happy with those...:thumbup:

only 1 is me :) but i have plenty more bass shots, i just think those ones signify why i love going bass fishing, the stunning locations and wildlife.

  9. I think there is a huge misconception from pro park groups that rec fishos in general oppose the entire concept of marine parks thinking we just want to have the whole place to ourselves with no thought of the future.

I and most rec fisho's I know dont oppose parks as such, its just the unjustified implementation of sanctuary zones with no scientific evidence.

Les i think your on the money. I too dont know any rec fisho's who dont give a toss about the future of the marine environment.

agree with all of the above. Im notin opposition to the parks themselves or the idea that we need to protect our environment, but the way in which these parks have come about and the not so scientific reasoning behind most closures.
