  1. So true. It kinda doesn't make sense to spend more in your net than your rod and reel. I had a 5 buck one but I left it at little manly accidentally on tue.
  2. Thanks mate - yeah I saw them 46 bucks at the fishing shop in Willoughby. Anyone know whether you can buy them at KMart?
  3. Cracking work brother. Great lizards.
  4. Thanks very much for all of your advice. Yeah i think I'll need stronger line and also a big net or a gaff if I fish there. I went again tonight and nothing was biting. It's a tricky spot as there is nowhere I can see to land the fish due to the drop. Heaps of people fish there though.
  5. Yeah thanks all. It's way too far from the beach. It's the point which was the old coal wharf until 1963. It seems like a cracking fishing spot. I agree I think I will need to buy the long net if I am gunna fish there - 43 bucks in the tackle shop.
  6. Thanks mate - you were right it was the anti reverse. It's also a massive drop so I dunno if my 30 buck rod could take that much weight. The guy in the fish shop said I needed a long net.
  7. Evening All. Hope everyone got a bite this weekend. i took my kids for a quick fish at little manly on the little manly beach side out on the wharf this arvo. Got down there bout 4. I own a $30 rod from tackleworld brookvale. Anyway my 7 year old threw the line in with a coles peeled prawn on the end and hooked up a pretty decent looking lizard. I took the rod but we couldn't reel it in - the reel just went the backwards. I tried to fiddle round with the drag but the it just wasn't strong enough to lift it up from the water. It is about a a 5m drop. Anyway the lizard put up a fight and got away sadly. I am a beginner so just wondering what I did incorrectly. Did I need to set the drag tighter or is there another setting I haven't figured out. or is the rod and reel just not good enough? Any help appreciated.
  8. Thanks heaps the Rev for the tips. I am a keen surfer too but I have a back injury at the moment. Thanks also Flickn. You were 100 percent right. I googled rock cale and saw an exact pic of the three I chucked back. They were disgusting looking things brother. I'm gunna head down there again soon fellas at high tide as you guys suggested and give it another go. I'll let you know how I go.
  9. Hey Flickn. Thanks for the reply. Yes you are right. Northern end. Apologies. I edited the post. Any ideas what I caught or have you ever fished there?
  10. Fellow Raiders I am a novice fisherman - I fish occasionally but have been trying to bend the rod a bit lately. On sun night I went down to queenscliff beach (northern end of manly) for a swim and threw the rod in around dusk from the deck where the rock pool is into the ocean. I used tweed bait squid. I got bites everywhere and each time was hoping for a good fish but all I hauled up were some kind of disgusting looking creatures. No idea what they were. Maybe toads - black and white spotted things bout 25 to 30cm. I chucked them all back. They were keen though - they absolutely swallowed the squid. Anyone had any luck around there or got any tips. It seemed to be a good spot? There must be bream or whiting hanging around. There's a rip or a channel that runs along the rocks out to sea so I would think It should be a reasonable spot. Any advice welcome.
  11. Great work Funky. Looks like Bilgola or Newport from the colour of the sand. Nice one.
  12. Thanks for the comprehensive report Jim. I strolled down to Forty Baskets for a swim, grabbed the rod and had a quick cast trying to get a bend. Few chomps - mainly toads I guess. Too many people about. Cracking day though. Best of luck to everyone tomorrow.
