Hi
I’m looking at buying a new live bait tank with chopping board on top.
I was thinking about a Pro wave, has anyone got one and what’s your thoughts?
My old tank is a home made one which sits inside the boat talking up floor space which I don’t have much of, that’s why I’m looking at one that bolts to the top of the gunwale.
Any other brand or suggestions would be great.
thanks

Awesome day mate!
What depths were you finding your fish?
Getting them between 10-20m.
It can be a big snaggy at 10m so need to really watch your retrieve and jig head weight

Had the day off and after speaking with @Scratchiewe decided to hit Broughton hoping to find a Snapper or 2 and maybe a longtail.
Woke up early only to find a big storm just off the coast so was crossing my fingers it would disappear and as It was it did, I think the thunder woke Scratchie up bright and early.
Hit cabbage tree up for bait but it was dead and only managed about 5, so pushed on to Broughton for first light.
As always the wind forecast was wrong, predicted S/E, was actually blowing N/W and water fairly brown so I wasn’t overly confident but we were still keen to make it work.
First drift livie Deployed and flicking plastics for snapper.
Got a nice little pannie on boat just as the livie screams off, after a tussle up comes a Mac tuna.
Another few drifts equals another tuna, small snapper and heaps of just under size kings.
moved spots livie got hammered but missed it and probably our chances of a long tail as it was the last livie.
we were about to call it a day when we thought we would try one more area and lucky we did as up comes a nice 58cm to finish the morning off.
it turned out to be a top morning and I don’t know how many snapper we actually missed and dropped as well, thinking maybe the dirty water was making them miss the plastics, who knows.

I’ve made jerky from Mac Tuna before. I thought it was pretty good... but quite ‘fishy’ so the rest of the family were turned off by the smell!
Thanks mate.
ive frozen it all up for bait now but if I get one I keep next time I might try some👍

Would be interesting to see how others prepare them, caught a bucket load yesterday in Sydney kept a few but no idea what the best way to cook em up.
Always a good sesh when the action is to hot for pics 👌
Yeah mate every time I tried to re rig or organise boat a bit another rod would scream off, had some breakfast packed and didn’t even get to eat it until the trip back.
maybe I should set up a go pro or something

Hi all
havnt put a report in for a while due to average catches but thought I’d do a quick one and might get some answers to a question.
Hit Broughton nice and early after quickly loading up on some livies trying to get there by first light, got there on time even though there was a fair bit of slop left over from the overnight n/e winds.
I normally don’t fish weekends but was motivated by Scratchie’s report of mackerel in the area.
happy to be the only boat in the area the first livey was set only to be smashed 30 seconds later, Big Mac tuna came in.
Every drift , every livey was smashed resulting in more tuna, 3 snapper, heaps of rat kings.
got smoked 3 times by what we think were good kings as they stayed deeper then the tuna and leaders were scuffed up by the reef. Managed to destroy one reel due to heavy drag and getting spooled. Bummer
struggled to get any more snapper due to the kings hitting every bait or plastic .
Ended up Keeping 3 Big Mac tuna due to them getting gut hooked and I was fishing with wire in case a Spanish turn up.
I really enjoy my smoked fish and beef jerky and the question I have has anyone smoked one before or made fish jerky?, I only thought of jerky as its flesh is very red, meaty so thought it could be an option. Ill be keeping some for bait as well or maybe all of it.
Sorry for the lack of photos as it was hectic out there and didn’t get around to it, and normally don’t photo what I consider a bait fish.
cheers

We used to catch them at a decent size - 25-30cm and occasionally bigger. I haven’t seen one for years. They are possibly my favourite fish for Thai fish cakes. 😋
Hi Baz
If you want any go to the tank reef, heaps there last time I went, sore arms but as it's fairly deep and they come up with their bucket mouths open

I don't think nannygai have a size limit in NSW, but don't quote me on that.
Any fish not on the dpi list have a bag of 20 unless there classed as bait fish

Looks like your "warm up" for the September event has put you on the front line of the grid, alongside Scratchie. Gunna be hard to sneak poll position from you guys but I reckon there will be a few trying real hard to do so. All being well it will be good to see how the experts do it. Till then keep honing your skills Peter, it's pretty to watch. Cheers, bn
Thanks mate
I think it was more luck than skill, if i got there 1hr later I would have got nothing.
They were really on the bite than shut down as quick as it came on

Havnt posted for a while due to corona virus and moving house at the moment.
But I decided to get my priorities right and have a warm up before the Port Stephens catch up.
Took my nephew out and tried a few areas with a keeper and a 45cm model.
Moved on to another spot and started feeding out a livey only for it to get smashed before the rod went in the holder, after a bit of a fight up comes a just legal king, landed a couple more the next drift.
Set up our next drift and it was on, nephew gets a nice 63cm snaps, livey goes off and I get absolutely smoked, then my rod with the plastic on goes off, lucky to get this one as it swallowed it down and could feel the leader skipping across it's teeth, another 63cm shortly after a 54cm landed.
Got dusted a couple more times and got a few big bonnies before the wind dropped completely off and the fish with it

Good to see you and Mick out there.
The current made it difficult to read the drift, I was surprised how there was bugger all debri floating around.
I could hear you cursing from over where we were fishing, I knew you must have lost a good one.
