  1. Jocool, Yeah I have heard of people using baby rabbits but never live, I have seen some pretty weird baits used for cod. Frozen chips ( the crinkle cut version ) to imitate wood grubs, boiled eggs, half boiled potatos. I've also heard of galahs, budgies and canaries being used. But I usually stick to the standard worm or yabby with bait, mudeye, spinnerbaits or stumpjumbers in lures and dahlbergs, 3Ds, poppers and some self tied flys when fly fishing. But I would love to chase them on SP's.
  2. Has anyone chased murray cod on plastics, I've caught them on bait, lure and fly but never attempted them on soft plastics. If anyone has tried could them let me know which SP they used. Or if no one has could they let me know which type would best imitate a wood grub as this would probably be a good starting point. I have never really used SP's but want to give them a go on cod.
  3. Tim, I also tried Avoca rocks early sunday morning with the only fish caught being a port jackson, my brother and I had better success Saturday night at Copa Beach with a haul of 3 salmon the largest being 3.5kg. Copa beach seems to produce salmon when they aren't biting anywhere else, maybe not in big numbers but enough for I bit of fun or a feed if salmon are your thing. PS My gang hooks are set up the same as bluefin has described.
  4. Last one. Only way I could work out posting them.
  5. I have never posted before, but after reading everyone else's report I thought it was time for me to contribute. I do alot of freshwater fishing mainly chasing yellowbelly and murray cod, even though I live on the central coast. After driving 6 hours I finally got to my uncles homestead, this homestead sits on 15,500 acres but has the Severn river runnning right through it. My cousin and I walked on down to the river after he was telling me the redfin were running, ( I actually broke into a canter ) and we through some worms in. Whilst we were waiting for the worms to be eaten, I decided to chuck some mudeye lures (local bloke makes them) and in the first cast I had a 6kg cod on the bank, after that all hell broke loss . We had worms being eaten and lures being smashed , hard to remember exactly what we got but I will post some photo's shortly of what we took home. I would love to have had a photo of what we actually caught in the 3 hours we were fishing . The biggest fish taken for the day was a 12.6kg cod caught by my cousin on a locally made lure. Can't fit the other 2 photo's on.
  6. After reading everyone else's reports for the last couple of months, I thought it was about time I made a contribution. Spent the last couple of days fishing the Gwydir, Severn, McIntyre and Dumeraq rivers for not alot of fish. As alot of my relatives live out that way, most of our fishing is done on private property's where there is only a handful of us that fish that part of the river this usually ensure's us a feed of fish. Spent the first day fishing above Copeton Dam in the Gwydir River this has always been a good spot for us, but unfortunately this time our catch rate wasn't as high as usual, but still not a bad day and night fishing we got a 4 pound catfish, a 6 pound yellowbelly and 6 cod ranging from 9 pound to 23 pound we kept the catfish yellowbelly and 2 of the cod, I usually only keep one cod for myself but my Pop wanted one and him being one of the people to teach me how to catch this elusive fish I'm not going to say no. Second day was spent between Bonshaw and Ashford fishing the Dumeraq and Severn rivers for not much at all, the Severn usually always produces good numbers of cod but this time the fish had gone into hiding and no matter what we threw at them incliuding lures, flys and all different baits the just did not wanrt to play. I have attached some pictures
