no foil fitted to the new motor it seems fine without it so i will see how it goes for a little while during the next game fishing season. if i do fit one it wont be the stingray so keep your eyes on ebay for it as its going. cheers

Well the bastards at stingray in the USA have replied after sending pics etc to say there is nothing wrong with the foil and that the extra weight of the 4stroke has made the motor dig deeper in the water and that is causing the problem. they want me to lift the motor higher, which if i do will cause it to cavitate and i might as well have bought a short shaft as the motor is already 1 inch higher that recomended fittment because it run better in this position ( including the old Donk) they say if you can't do this pack the foil up using stainless washers until you correct the problem. any way like you said the piss off is the fact that you now have holes in a new motor that don't need to be there, but low and behold i got a call from the engine manufactures the other day to say that my motor is 1 of 7 that MAY have a manufacturing defect and that a new new motor is being shipped out of japan for me straight away and that it will be swapped out free of charge with new warrenty etc etc etc. so i tell you if you really want service in this day and age Honda marine seem to be the go. there are not too may manafactures sround that would do this they would wait untill a problem arrose and then dealt with it. happy boating

Na the foil was installed dead square and to the manafactures spec, all the top brass looked at it and even they were baffeled as to what the F$%^%# was going on. I have since been in touch with stingray in the USA and they have requested pics which are now sent so they them selves can try and work it out. the only thing that ticks me is that you drill holes in a new motor only to find out that the product does exactally what it not suposed to do. but s#$% happens and every one seems willing to help so i guess we wait and see.

solved the problem. took the foil off and what do you know it no longer leans over. i guess now i had better find the number for stingray and give them a call as it stated on the packageing if you are not happy with the product etctetctetc. suprising how it never did this with the merc but the honda it lean't over, thanks for the replies. happy boating

I fitted the foil because the boat is reasonably heavy and and improves the overall ride and economy of the boat we did test the rig when the new donk was thrown on but that was in a lake and only for a few mins, it is not a wind thing as it is alwas leaning to port regardless of which way you travel. and the top notch brass from honda were at bermie and we spend some time with them talking about what it could be, i might take it off today and go for a run and see if this changes the ride.

Hi to all i have just replaced my outboard motor on my boat, taking off my 150 EFI merc and replacing it with a honda 150. what a motor just gave it a right royal flogging at bermie last week for the comp and it was totaly amazing, but for some strange reason the boat now leans out to the port side. the guys from honda marine had alook and could not find an obvious problems. the height and angle, prop fittment etc were spot on, the only other thing added to the motor was a new stingray hydrafoil i had one on the merc with no probs and it does help the boat a LOT so i am not sure if this may be causing it to lean or what the F$$^$$ is going on.

My advice is to seek out and get a custom made alluminum one made, being an ally boat you are asking for trouble with stainless as it wont take long for corrosion to take hold, plus as you said you want to make sure that your expensive game outfits are safe. its a real bitch to hear a sudden thud from above while travelling.only to find out that your belovered gear has hit the deck or worse gone over board.
