  1. With a 1/0 would that be too small? Are you fitting bait chunks, fillets, pieces, or whole bait on that hook? Or it is too small for chunk bait? What would be a good overall size for circle hook that is not too big or not too small which can be used for many purposes?
  2. Anymore help? Would love to hear your experience and thoughts to my questions....
  3. Want to know more into these type of hooks here are some questions. Circle Hooks: 1) How to set the circle hooks? I know you are not suppose to yank it up. So how would you hook up your fish? 2) Using a 5/0 circle hook, what type and size fish is this size suitable for catching? What would be a good all round size for catching all size fish? 3) I noticed with circle hooks you need to have exposure. Is this the same with J hooks? Or with J hooks you cover the whole hook? 4) Will be trying to use live Yakka and will the 5/0 circle hook be okay for it? My setup will be a 2500-4000 reel with 9lb mono line with 10lb fluro leader. What setup rig should I be using for land base fishing with live bait? Please list a few good ones.
  4. Just a normal knot don’t know the exact name but it’s the simple loop and then twist and twist then put through the circle loop. Yeh I usually twist about 6-7 times, the more I twist the more I think it’s better. Maybe that is the cause? How many turns is normal?
  5. Just some more stuff I need to know: -For line weight can you determine which is heavier by reading the diameter instead of the lb? Let’s say we have 2 lines the same kind and same weight but the diameter for one is 0.280 and the other is 0.250 - Does this mean the 0.250 is lighter and thinner? -Also when tying a swivel knot I sometimes have a problem when I go to tighten the knot it won’t tighten all the way smoothly. What is causing this? I also wet the line before tightening. Could it be I am wrapping too many knots? Hmmm....
  6. Hey very new to fishing and got a couple of questions I want to know: -The term trolling I have heard but do not know what exactly it is or mean. Could someone explain? -Can you troll with dead bait and live bait? If so, what kind of rig setup is good? -When fishing land based can you still fish the style trolling? Or is it for certain area etc? -Usually I would just have a basic running sinker setup when fishing. Cast out and just leave it sitting until I get a bite. What is this fishing type called?
  7. Another question: What rig setup is good for using live bait as bait? Can anyone fill me in about this.
  8. Thanks. Do u have any good online sites for cheap tackle?
  9. Thanks great help! Can I ask what is the difference between having the sinker down with the hook than having sinker above the swivel. Never really found out what the difference is.
  10. I’m doing land based jetty, wharf and rock fishing. Type of fish I want to catch are mainly Snapper, Kings. Since I have yet to catch a decent size one. Breams and that I’ve caught many times. Now back to my original question first post if any can help? As I need to go and buy the tackle real soon so I need to know what to get....
  11. Hi guys, Got a few questions to ask about catching live baits etc.... 1) When trying to catch live baits land based like Yellowtail, Mullet and all those good stuff. What are the best bait to use? 2) What bait setup rig should I use? No sinker and a hook onto the line? Please list a few ways. 3) What type and size hook do I use? I assume something really small but not sure. 4) Where is the best place to fish for land based live bait? Are they usually everywhere? What spot to look for when trying to catch them etc? Thanks guys, hope some of you can help me!
  12. Anyone else know or can guide me to the right place?
  13. Reel is 8-240, 10-200, 12-160 (LB-Yards) and Rod is 6-8kg. Still dont know what I should be using. Can someone help me out?
  14. Nah already tried. Went to a shop before and tried asking them for more info and they don’t even know. I rather do my research on forums as that is what it is for. - If anyone can help me answer my questions would be appreciated. I will lost down the specs of my reel and rod soon.
  15. Anyone who has good knowledge and experience please help me in selecting the right stuff as I do not know much. Main Line - I want to be using mono main line but I do not know what correct size to use? (I have a $100 Shimano 4000 size spinning reel and 10ft rod. Fish that I am going for will be Bream, Snapper, Trevally, Kingfish and all the good stuff out there) Trace/Leader Line - For the trace leader I want to use Flurocarbon but do not know what weight I should be using? Swivel - What type of swivel and size should I be using? Hooks - Gonna be using circle hooks but do not know what size to use? (Need a hook size that will go round with catching: Bream, Snapper, Trevally, Kingfish and similar. Will be using bait such as pilchards, prawns, yakkas, live baits etc... what size would be good for all round for those?) Sinkers - How to tell what size sinker I need? Thanks!
  16. I am from the Liverpool and Cabramatta area. Anyone know where I can buy some good and cheap tackle gear? I had a look at a shop before but it is abit pricey and they do not have a tackle box with all the stuff I want in them and buying them all seperate would end up costing a lot. Anyone know? Please fill me in....
  17. Been doing some research but need to find out some things. Hope you guys can help. 1) When hooking up some bait why do I see a lot of people showing the hook through the bait. I would of thought covering the whole hook so the fish cannot notice the hook? 2) Can I use chicken and beef pieces from home as bait? Do most fish eat them? 3) Been reading on hooks and they say the J Hook you have to yank and hook on the fish. Where as Circle Hook the fish will hook itself. Correct? Also what size circle hook would be a good all rounder hook for cubes/strip/fillet/live whole baits? Size 6/0 or need higher? Thanks!
  18. Thanks guys! Another quick question I’ve got is without proper tools how would I set the drag? Should it be not too easy too pull but not too hard to pull either? Or should it be loose?
  19. Ok that’s a shame it doesn’t have the alarm clicker feature. So the only way is to make my drag loose so I can hear the drag going off when a fish is on when I leave the rod unattended. Once a fish is on I will hear the drag go off, after that do I need to tighten the drag up and then yank the rod up to hook the fish?
  20. Just a few questions I am curious about: 1) Fishing with a spinning reel and with bait. When a fish is about to eat the bait does the fish automatically hook itself or I would need to yank the rod up all the time? Asking this because I see in some videos of people drag on the reel going off and they run back to their reel to fish it in. 2) For land based fishing around Sydney what is the best bait to use for Bream and Snapper? Please list fresh baits and servo baits. Also what setup rig should be good for these species? 3) What is the main thing to do or need to heighten the chances of catching a fish? Thanks guys!
  21. The thing I want to know most is if it’s the area or how the fish are there that’s contributing to never catching fish at that spot. Yes I used servo bait and of course fresh bait is better. But I don’t know the difference and it can’t make that much of a difference right? I mean other places I use servo bait and manage to catch a lot. It is just everytime I’m at the Kurnell, Cronulla and Botany area for land based fishing never had a good fishing day out. Why?!!!!
  22. So guessing from the replies my spinning reel doesn’t have the clicker alarm? But what is this button behind the reel it’s a little flick switch, if I activate it the reel will spin backwards. Not quite sure what it is for. Anyone know?
  23. Went to about 3-4 different land based spots yesterday and no luck and no bites whatsoever. Only caught undersized baby Bream and Snapper. We went to Wanda Beach, Cronulla, Gunnamatta Bay, Kurnell. The bait we used were servo prawns, pillchards and chicken guts. Setup rig was just a light line with normal sinker and hook. I don’t know what was going on with these areas. I had the same results a long time ago at Kurnell. For anyone who has experience, are the above areas stated really hard to catch fish at or what? Please fill us in on what you know! TA!
  24. Hey guys, I’m new to this forum and been fishing for awhile but never took it serious until now. Now I want to gain more knowledge about fishing. I have a question. 1) I have a Shimano cheap spinning reel and was wondering in videos I watch how do people set their reel up where when the fish takes the bait you would hear a drag noise spinning. Usually they would be unattended once they hear the drag noise then come back to their reel to hook the fish. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
