I notice your location is Birrong, that's just around the corner from my place, maybe we should catch up for a chat and a possible fish together?.

    Frank

Yeah mate, I'd love a fishing buddy that's close. It gets lonely on the rocks, beach and hinterlands at times. Whilst I love the serenity its always better to share it with friends. Its also way easier to bring in large fish ?

The amount of time I've hooked a massive grouper, tuna, kingfish and couldn't land it because I didn't have a helping hand is frustrating. And since I'm risk adverse and prefer to let the creature go rather then prolonging its pain or taking unnecessary risk to land it. I've had to cut a fare few lines lol

Thanks Connico, so when you minced the heads and frames you don't get hit with sharks? It's only when you used the whole heads and frames that you're hit with sharks? If mincing it and mixing (with bread?) could get around the problem I'd do just that but otherwise I'll stop using the heads and guts altogether.

Only when I used whole heads and the frames.... When I mince everything up and combine with the burley for some reason I don't get sharks at all. I've got a couple of videos of the sharks trying to take my burley bag filled with frames of dolphin / salmon heads and frames. Its a good way to lose bags lol

  3. Lol I was fishing from shore at Yarra Bay with no result. I had moved there from Cape Banks since it was way to windy and swell was to high to fish for Luderick....

The considers where less then ideal for fishing on Saturday and Sunday...

  4. I never burley with whole heads and frames unless I'm chasing sharks. I normally mince the heads and frames  and use it in my burley mix.

Everytime I've been lazy either off the boat or off the rocks, I've been hit with sharks. And once the sharks are around the fish just seem to disappear. It takes ages after that to get the fish back on the bite

Went looking today around georges river.... nothing.. Think i might go yarra bay early but the tide will be up so don't know if ill have access to the weed at yarra bay...

Where do you think you're headed out tomorrow?

  6. Copoly = two materials "fused" into one to create a line with different properties. Usually stronger, stretcher and more abrasion resistant. Depending on the brand etc

Mono = single material to create a mono line.

It all depends on preference. I prefer Copoly as for some reason the brand I use, the line is supple, soft even and knots area easy to tie. I find my FG knots just grip better with the copoly. The abrasion performance is similar to other monos that I used to use.

  7. + one to aerator but you will need to change water that has been inked. That's why i use a keeper net. Issue is when the sharks come calling....I've had nets taken and ripped apart

  8. Another good tip is to berley off the beach. Sounds strange to some people but it helps.  Two methods that i use work well

Traditional berley, freeze into large blocks and then bury in the sand. As the wash comes in it washes the berley out slowly...

Sock Method, make fresh berley and put i in a sock / stocking or hesh bag. Tie to a to a rope and rope to your rod holder. This lets you move the berley sock up and down the beach. Also if you're lucky you'll see where the worms are as well lol

  9. Wetsuit bottom + wetsuit shoes + thermal top + fishing shirt + wind breaker makes for a comfortable fishing. Also I don't actually get into the water. The winter bream and whiting are 15m from the shore line.

Are you standing in the water??? Even for normal / summer fishing I don't stand in the surf...

  10. 1. I occasionally get my reels upgraded with different carbon drag washers and during this upgrade i get a service as well. Shimano has never complained or said anything when I have had a reel serviced with them after the upgrade has been done. YMMV

    2.  Acetone or if you're old school methylated spirits. You can soak or wipe away.

    3. Spray bottle with demineralised water, spray and wipe. You can also lock the drag on sealed reels and wash them under the tap. MUST LOCK DRAG before washing under the tap!
