  2. Hi All,

Im looking at going out through swansea bar on saturday (tide swell MRS and weather permitting) in a 4.3m Quintrex Fishabout. I hear of guys going through fine in smaller tinnys just wondering what some peoples thoughts are on crossing that bar in a smaller boat

    Thanks in advance

Nope - its all about getting motors on hulls- watch the manufacturing plant move to Asia. I wandered through a Quintrex dealer a couple of weeks ago and they are nicely finished hulls but i really couldnt believe the prices for what is essentially a tinny.

I aggree they will probably move to asia. I reckon that will do nothing to the price though.

  4. We handline in Brisbane Waters and have heared multiple reports of bagging out in an hour recently. Had a go on the weekend and got 9 in about 3 hours. We use mullet fillets because the skin is tough and they dont like letting it go.

I remember reading somewhere the blues can go from egg to legal in 6 months. If this is true your numbers can bounce back very quickly.

    Best of luck

Hey @blindmullet  please don't take this the wrong way .... its probably just me showing my age... but does anyone else find it somewhat funny to read  "blindmullet"  and "sewage spill" in the same topic ....

... as a kid I just remember we'd always be wary of  blindmullets swimming off Sydney beaches that were near the old sewage outflows - especially when the king tides were on ! ....   BAHAHA...

Your the first to mention the 'blindmullet' HAHAHA

I thought it was funny when signing up

I even Tow with that lock on my trailer, only time it’s had issue is whe. Reversing and I have to almost Jack Knife the trailer it bend the bar on the lock a little.

Otherwise it is fine when towing and reversing at the ramp.

The thieves bring their own tow hitch and a portable drill and just swap your out for theirs.

Yeah, 2 bolts and a hitch and the trailer is yours. Better off taking the whole drawbar off.

  7. Couldnt get near the boat last night, was floggin down rain but ill try describe it. I use a 4/0 snapper hook on the bottom, big sinker bout a foot from the hook fixed not running, dont want to spook them when pulling them in. I always use mullet for crab bait. Leave it on the bottom for a while then extremely slowly start pulling it in, If theres weight or the line moves sideways, Crab on. Get them to a depth where you can only just see them and very slowly net them. I was taught this when i was very young and never used a trap in my life. Hopefully when the rain stops i can get a video out on the water.

Also worth noting that I have caught far more blue swimmers on a $4 handline than I have in my 2 x $40 traps.

Handline is the way to go. Traps take forever, get stolen, lost, use fuel etc. Bycatch is usually a big flatty which i dont really like to call 'bycatch'.

Handlines are far more productive where i fish
