  1. Hey mate , No I never posted anything of the sorts about protected species . You’ve gotten me mixed up with someone else (check my post history if you want). And I’ve never kept any fish I’ve caught (let alone an undersized one -not that I have anything against people keeping legal fish for eating purposes). . Cheers anyway , I will take your advice and get myself a fish ID
  2. Hahahaha yeah mate that’s a fair comment Cheers SS
  3. Thanks everyone for the replies , much appreciated!!! I think it’s time to set my eyes on some Trevally next ...
  4. So I fished the same spot a week later and got this beauty (for me anyways ahah) . I posted it in a fishing report and judging from my fellows fishos responses there I am now very confident it’s a tailor . However I thought I may as well post it here as well .. two heads are better than one . ?
  5. This was a fish I got last week , just curious what it is . Thanks guys ?
  6. Thanks Amatteroflight for the in depth response , definitely appreciated !! Very glad to hear you’ve heard of Jewies being caught here . Myself and cousin are looking to start trying to catch our first Jewie, once we get our gear set up to match .???
  7. Thanks for the reply GoingFishing Absolutely , I better go have a look in the shed
  8. Thanks mrsswordfisherman , I might actually do that with another fish I caught last week (I thought it was a salmon as well but have a feeling it could have been a tailor ... ?)
  9. Thanks scratchie, at least I got half of it right hahaha ?
  10. Thanks for the reply wazatherfisherman . You’re joking hahah ? ? I was convinced I had a salmon. Guess I better get back out there and keep trying for one
  11. So myself and my fishing comrade (the cousin) got to Maroubra Beach around 5:45pm, about 10 minutes after low tide. We were unsure of what to expect as we had never fished here at night at low tide. ???? We arrive and set up shop, roughly outside the blue surf club , where one of the main gutters on the beach is. There’s seems to be a decent swell and bit of a wind. Armed with gang hooks and pillies we get to work. No bites for the first 1 hour or so . Then BOOM ! My cousin is on with his first Aussie salmon on the line. Thanks to our headlamps we watch it jump in the air about 10m out from shore , and spit the hook .... ?? My cousin is straight back on it armed with a new pillie. 5 minutes later he gets hit again...only for this new fish to spit it again .. ☹️ At this point I’m 100 metres away down the beach and reeling in to cast my rig again when BOOM. I get hit . Luckily for me I was able to get her in and beach her . Cheering. ?? Finer details Swell - just shy of 4m (according to willy weather) Wind - NE 25km/h winds Time: Roughly 7:30pm (2 hours after low tide ) Details : Aussie Salmon Length - 50cm (NEW FISH PB!!!) ????? (Someone plz tell me if this is the not the way you layout the reports I’m just going off some of the ones I’ve read ??)
  12. Hey Fishing.Hooked Cheers for the update , Ill definitely let you know if I’m heading out your way for some Ozzie sambos ?????
  13. You might not but if you need any tips on your setup / rigs just ask, even though I’m a beginner fisho myself I have happened to bag myself at least 1 Aussie salmon so far so I think I’m doing something right hahahah ?
  14. I’ve heard some really good things about Garie , when it’s firing it’s meant to be a great spot
  15. Not to steal the spotlight away from Pugzthugz original question but; Are whiting still able to be commonly caught off beaches during winter ? From what I have learnt from the most knowledgeable fisho of us all (Google) it seems whiting are more of a summer species ?
  16. Hey to all, ?? This is just a quick question regarding safety; not for myself but for swimmers and surfers on the beaches I fish on. ??? So the question is , what are my fellow fishos advice on burleying on busy beaches ? Is it a no go? ???? Or is it OK as long as you’re not doing it during a time when it’s busy with swimmers and surfers ?
