Thanks guys. I know they come in close during the warmer months and are mostly rats, but are fun to catch. Has anyone caught any around there lately?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had caught any kingfish in close off Terrigal, McMasters etc? I was considering trolling for them with skirts or divers this Saturday and only have a 4.5m boat so I don’t want to go out too far.

Just wondering what spots you guys pump nippers from around Brisbane Waters? I’m taking my sons out today and was going to pump some. Going off the tide reports and needing low tide, I just wanted some more options.

Hey guys, I’ve been doing a bit of fishing around The Rip Bridge Central Coast where I’m from. Every time I see people with light gear and their baits are probably not even hitting the bottom. Would the best rig for there be similar to what people use on The Hawkesbury for jewfish etc? As the current runs hard through there like in the Hawkesbury.

By ‘the ladders’ are you meaning Iron Ladder Beach, near Little Box Head?
Yeah Volitan Iron Ladder Beach I think. There are rocks there though so it might actually be Little Box Head

Hey guys, I had a bit of trouble getting squid on my attempt for catching a jewfish, so I tried getting yakkas. I went near ladders on the Central Coast about 11am and didn’t get anything. Anyone have any tips? I used bread and tuna oil as burley and a small unweighted hook on a handline with a piece of prawn. I haven’t done this for a long time and previously did it in a mates boat and found it really easy. Do you need to go really early before the sun comes up?

Do you catch jewfish on the Coles squid?

Quality squid can be a little difficult to catch yourself this time of the year. Usually numbers and sizes are better towards end of January.
Thanks

Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good shop I can get fresh squid from around Gosford, Woy Woy area? I know you guys are going to tell me to catch it, but I never seem to be able to get them.

No I didn’t marks before and I’ve only ever caught small soapies.

Hey guys I’ve see a few people catching Jews in the Hawkesbury. I’ve done it in the past and keen to get back into it. I’ve got 2 overhead rods I use for trolling for kings I might use that already has 30 pound Berkeley Big Game mono in blue. My question is would this line be ok for this type of application? I’m going to attach Black Magic fluorocarbon leader in 50 pound. I’m going to use butterfly yellowtail. Any tips GPS marks would also be useful?

I dont even know the name of the knot I use but it holds extremely well. My Dad taught it to me as a kid. Line through the eye, hold the tag end and line, twist the hook six, seven times min then put the end through the line loop near the eye, now bring it up and through the line loop up the top, wet with some spit and pull tight. Never undoes, high knot strength too. Used it all my fishing life and never let me down.
Anyone know the name of it? Feel free to laugh at my artwork, I'm no Picasso. 😁
I’ve been using this knot for bait rigs for years. I was shown how to tie it by my uncle who got me into fishing. I used it yesterday for plastics I think it worked well and I’m going to stick with it.

Hey mate I wouldn’t use a loop knot on a jig head, just tie a uni/blood knot to connect to the jig head. I used to always use a double uni for my braid to leader knot but since costing me a cracking snapper I know tie the improved Albright that @Scratchie told me to tie and it’s a much stronger knot IMO
Cheers I’ll have a look

Do you guys use a loop knot when attaching a jig head? I’m fishing for flathead in the bay. And how close should the knot be to the jig head?

you dont need anything fancy, i use my light spin rods which vary from a couple of Stradic s in 2500 and 3000, A couple of light Diawas that i still own for some reason all on light spin sticks- they have braid from 4-8lb on them and i generally use a meter or so of 8-10lb mono as leader- I have a 300m spool of Vanish sitting in the garage so thats what gets used at the moment-10lb i think. Bigger lizards will sometimes get the lure down deep but i cant say ive been chewed off virtually ever- the key is use low rod angles and soft hands (this stops pulling the hooks as well). As i said before i mainly use Lively Lure Micro Mullets in pink but i retrofit them with fine gauge chemically sharpened trebles. When running 3 lures i chuck 1 corner out at 10-15 meters behind the boat, the center rod about 30-40m and the other corner about 20, then i can turn sharp corners without tangling but the adjustable rod holders are key to this, otherwise hold your rod.
Cheers I’m trying this

I wanna try flathead trolling now. What type of rod and line/leader are using? Do you use a spin rod for plastics or something different? I’ve only ever trolled outside for kings and tuna, I’m guessing it’s similar.
