  1. From a recent Port Stephens offshore report - thanks Paul. OUTSIDE There’s plenty of action hotting up this week outside. Striped Marlin in the 70 to 90kg range have shown up in the 70 to 100 fathom mark straight out from the heads. One boat raising 5 to take only 1 whilst we have heard of around 5 other fish trolled again in the 70 fathom mark to the Almark. Out wide 28k’s east of Broughton the Vanessa S boated 5 Broadbill to 150kgs this week. The Yellowfin seem to have slowed off this week hearing of only a few fish around 30 – 40kgs. The temp on the shelf is 20.8 to 21 degrees up to 22.5 30ks outwide of the shelf. Earlier this week the current was running uphill but I reckon its slowed or changed as there are Dolly’s everywhere over the last day or two. You can see em running around ranging from 5 – 20kgs with a lot round 10-15kgs even in close.
  2. I have fished Rompin 3 times whilst i lived in Singapore - all with Fishzone (www.fishzone.com.sg). Its run by Dominic & Ian. They do use live baits predominantly but will do what you want, in recent years they have expanded to fly + also support poppers (although hook up rates very poor). They would be fine with switch baiting as same really as fly where they tease them up first. A bit more exxy than some of the others, pick up and drop off from Singapore. make sure you go late, - i would go October
  3. Never heard of Sails at KK - best place for them is the main peninsula of Malaysia rather than Borneo on the east coast. won't name names but been lots of press recently about the location - i've fished it and 10+ sails a day is a regular stat.
  4. Hey raiders As i mentioned in my earlier post, living in Singapore tends to limit the amount of fishing i can get in (that plus the average 12+ hour days at the office...); but following the Darwin trip back in June, managed a weekend away with my better half to Malaysia in September targeting Sails. Unfortunately not the double figure days it's renowned for at that time of year, but here's a few snaps of the ones we did catch - including an absolute baby of about 8kg (its bill was soft & flexible). As always; had the joy of hearing i should have been there in Oct this year as the Sails arrived late but you get that. All fish on live baits; either slow trolled or ballooned. Cheers Paul.

    Darwin V2

Thanks all, will make sure I keep the posts coming when i can as trips are few and far between these days. Not much happening on the Singapore front but have found a few interesting destinations in Malaysia and Thailand so will make a post after my next trip which will be chasing sails in Malaysia in Sept. Most of the fish that trip were taken casting (not a number 1 fan of trolling); poppers/fizzers early morning; soft plastics round the last of the run off coming out of the drains and managed a few on the ever reliable gold bombers and rattlin spots as well. Was hoping for a day out at the Vernons but 20+ knots put an end to that. cheers Paul.
  6. After seeing Martin's post on the Darwin trip thought i'd make my own 1st posting on the site after being a "view only" member for so long. Currently living in Singapore as a result of work commitments and as luck would have it, its probably cheaper and quicker to get to Darwin from here than it is from Sydney. Arranged a holiday trip down with the family in early June and in the midst of Kakadu, Litchfield and Katherine Gorge tours managed to squeeze in a couple of days with Mark West out at Corroboree and upstream Shady Camp. Great guy and guide if you're ever up that way. Here's a few pics cheers Paul.
