  1. Hi Raiders Asking the experts out there for some advice. I’m getting out on the water a bit more around the Broken Bay Area (Refuge bay, Patonga etc) and I’m keen to give live baiting a go for flathead on poddy mullet. Could anyone suggest a setup and rigging options that would be ideal for this?. I’d like to stick with mono if able so it’s remains simple for my son to use. thanks in advance Wiskas
  2. Hi all i was wanting to post a report much earlier than this but plans changed earlier in the year due COVID. however, I have just returned from my experiment with the Berkeley Gulp Sandworms with success. I’m at Kingscliff at the moment and got down to the mouth of Cudgen Creek (wind was up a little for beach fishing). My set up was my 10’6” live fibre, Alvey Ripfighter spooled with 4kg Platypus Lo Stretch running sinker to 12lb fluorocarbon leader. The hook I went for was the Mustad suicide number 4 with the sand worm pinned once through the head (as per Greenhornet’s recommendation). And the method used was a slow retrieve after casting (again, thanks Greenhornet) It wasn’t long before I had my first hit and after a few more casts I landed a nice flathead, bloody excited! Still very keen to give this a run off the beach for whiting. cheers all Wiskas
  3. Thanks all I spoke to Clint at Wilson and he has one blank left to make me that particular rod. Very kind as it’s a one off. Wiskas
  4. Hi all, thanks very much for all your replies. I already have a 10’6 Live Fibre low mount which is just so light to use for hours but can only be used on the beach in pretty calm conditions as it has a low cast weight. I have been using my Gary Howard Surf Special recently but prefer the feel of the Live Fibre and thought the 12 foot version would let me throw a heavier sinker when conditions require. I don’t need anything over 12 foot for off the beach for what I’m chasing, whiting, flathead etc. Wiskas
  5. Hi all I've been after a Wilson Live Fibre Champion Trophy 12 foot Low mount 2 piece for a while now. I've had no luck online but there is a medium mount, model number 37/2, that is the specification I'm after. asking the experts. Can this be changed to a low mount if I purchase this one? Cheers Wiskas
  6. Thanks Blackfish I’ll be sure to have a look at the forum on that topic, cheers. Kingie Chaser, budget up to $100. What would you consider in that price range? Thanks Micon01 for that information. Cheers all Wiskas
  7. Thanks for the suggestion KB. I’ll have a look at that. Wiskas
  8. Hi members I’m looking for some advice on a top notch filleting knife specifically for whiting and flathead. Any information on size, flexibility, brand etc would be much appreciated. Cheers Wiskas
  9. Got it now. Thanks Green Hornet and Kingie Chaser Wiskas
  10. Hi Green Hornet Regarding your method above, you mention using a number 6 short shank hook pinned once through the head of the sandworm. Could I ask why this is better than threading the hook as you would a normal soft plastic? Also, are there any hooks you can recommend by brand that you’ve had the most success with? many thanks Wiskas
  11. Many thanks KB for that information. all the best
  12. That’s great Green Hornet. I’ll be on the look out for that one as well. cheers
  13. Hi Waza I’m really starting from scratch. At this stage I’d like to build myself a nice light beach rod chasing whiting etc. Something simple to start with. Perhaps some of the more Decorative stuff once I’ve learned the basics.
  14. Thanks Berleyguts. I’ll be sure to track that one down. all the best.
  15. Hi all I’m wanting some information regarding rod building. I have no experience but I’d like to start building my own rods. I’m only interested in building low mount rods for Alvey reels. Could the learned members point me in the direction of a teacher that may be willing to help out a newbie (payed lessons of course) or perhaps recommend any good books on the subject. I’m located in Moss Vale, NSW. Cheers Wiskas
  16. Thanks all I’ll be sure to post a report with my results. cheers
  17. Hi Green Hornet thanks for the welcome and your reply. Looking forward to trying this and will go with the running sinker setup as suggested. all the best Wiskas
  18. Hi all I’m looking at trying the Berkeley Gulp Sandworm soft plastic rigged on either a paternoster or running sinker rig as I would a live beachworm for beach fishing targeting Whiting/Bream/Flathead. From what I’ve read on the forums this method has been successful in the estuaries but would like to know if members have had luck off the beaches with this setup. I fish an Alvey 55 on a 12 foot Gary Howard Surf Special. many thanks Wiskas
