  1. Anyone here fished quobba station, can’t find anything in here about it or I’m just not looking hard enough. Curious to know when the Spanish Mackerel are on there for spinning lures. Any other information for any species is greatly appreciated

Nice fish mate. Do they still let you fish off that wharf, with all the ferries coming and going?

Yeah they do allow it, just need to be mindful of the passengers most of them are excited to see a fish get a handful of them that go on about how it’s cruel

  3. Had the original plan of flicking for flathead and salmon off the beach with plastics no hits so we went and collected weed for bait and burley and tried for luderick, they were in massive numbers all good size but very finicky when eating we just used a tiny split shot to the hook even the floats would spook them and dropped leaders to 4/6lb. Bite was slow but managed a few biggest going 42cm in the pic below

  4. Tried to escape the wing hit the piers in Walsh bay with bread and pilchard caught a few decent trevally on Pilchard and bread, consistent burley and leaving the bail open drifting unweighted baits in the trail worked best a lot of takes from yakkas or smaller trevally I presume. Wind made it extremely hard but we still managed

I stand corrected didn't realise the bonnies appear so early, the mouth of the river on run in tide would also be worth a go

Definitely will be working the break wall a few mornings slide baiting live mullet down for mulloway, have to slide bait to anchor it in place as the current rips through there, will be throwing some other lures around while waiting

January is probably not the best time for pelagics, tailor and salmon are more of a winter target and tuna and bonnies might be a viable target depends on the year but probably a bit early

Just thought because it’s mid north coast they would be on, I spoke to a tackle shop owner there he says bonito should be on there with a very slim chance of long tail. Obviously I’m happy to catch anything. Sydney is currently fired up with sambos at the moment

  7. Hi all heading up north late January in Laurieton I would like to hit perpendicular point with lures the local tackle shops say bonito, tailor, salmon and potential Longtail tuna. Looking for advice tips and trails to follow into there I plan on fishing the most northern point I will only use lures for Pelagics any advice is helpful and if you are local and would like to tag along feel free to do so

  8. Went out Friday night in hope for salmon first cast out with a squid head under a float, was collecting yakka and had a look at my rod and watched it buckle over in the holder pulled a 46cm salmon out casted metals nothing wanted some the salmon still had live white bait in its mouth.

after the sun set I threw a live yakka out and dropped something big inconsistent runs and big head shakes guessing a Jew or shark. Lost after 10min fight, threw another yakka out and 2min later hooked a nice pj quick photo and good release

Well done. These days If I find some decent green eyes I think they are to good to use as bait. Wish they were more plentiful.

Haven’t had much trouble catching them, just find an agressive retrieve and fishing the right tide works a treat

  10. Went to spot x in the harbour to target some calminari and cuttle tried for an hour with the 1.5 jugs no hope on cuttle one small arrow a nice surprise considering we don’t usually get them sent it out live and it was chopped in half about 20min later, switched to the 2.2 and 2.5 jigs fished the deeper water and managed 4 nice calamari and three cuttle fish perfect bait size

About 2 summers ago we had a whole lot of kings move into Middle Harbour. They were frequently hitting at least 2 bays I know off as there was a good school of bait fish in both of them. There were a group of us hitting those areas shore based whenever we had spare time. We found the tide didn't matter. We had a bit of action at the first dawn (sun starts sending light over the horizon) and then at the second dawn (when it got over the hills) and this would continue till about 11am. This was happening daily for several months so wasn't tide dependent. Word got out (damn the application fishbrain) and it started to get busier and busier. On one morning there were at least 10 of us on the wall alongside the water. As a group I think we were pulling in 20 to 40 kings daily (all shorebased).

About 1/3 to 1/2 of the hook ups were on squid. Slapstix and 3" minnows probably picked up another 1/3 and the rest were on a combination of hardbodies and surface poppers.

Slapstick’s seem to be a killer lure for a kingy been wanting to try them for a while now

I can see what Derek is saying and mostly agree😁but i just find around the high they are more active in looking for baitfish? I may be wrong..in saying that i have caught plenty on low tide😁

I’m gonna assume it’s more of a patience game sometimes, I know how finicky and tormenting kings can be following your bait up and leaving it

Are you talking about tides from an access point of view or from a fishing point of view. The kings move around. In middle harbour it has never seemed particularly dependent on the tides.

Or to put it another way, the whole of middle harbour doesn't suddenly fire up at X minutes before or after high/low tide? If that was the case it would be easy and a few more of us would have cracked the code long ago.

Where tides might make a difference is Spit bridge as it is a choke point where a lot of water will pass through in one direction or another.

Just get out there - the method of floating strips under floats has been very effective for my group of fishing mates over the years (when the kings are around).

More so for a fishing point of view, always found a bit of current is better then none when chasing pelagics on lures (salmon, tailor) but as for kingfish in middle harbour I’ve never tried it

Yes sounds good, i reckon going up to high tide , say high is at 10am i would get there 8/830 am, but if the tides doesnt suit then if it was a 2pm high i would get there in high and fish for 3 or so hours.....those times were just an example obviously but dawn or dusk is best....next week the tides are gonna be perfect times with early morning and arvo tides....just remember 1.5/2 hours before or.... high tide to 2 hours after high is best...

Also may as well put a strip down on the bottom incase of a jewie cruising thru😁

     Cheers mate legend

Good luck and feel free to post what happens in reports section😁

Cheers mate, will use my some of my mates 3kg cuttlefish from yesterday we are thinking of going next week if weather and tides permit, what tide is best in your opinion
