  1. Go to laurieton every year with my dad to fish for a week and mainly just hit the estuaries and throw crab pots out, looking to target a Jew off the break wall along north haven side or pilot beach side any knowledge or success?

Also there are plenty of good spots off the rocks in the harbour...i just listed the easy to access one

Me and some mates are considering going here with our 9foot rods to float out cuttle strips or live squid if we have them

If you want kings the best way to get them is to send out a live bait under a float. have the bait suspended somewhere in the middle or upper portion of the water column. Squid or yakkas go down well, as do cuttlefish and slimey mackeral.

If you cant find live bait, fresh bait will do, but i suggest you strip it to flesh baits to get the blood/juices out to get the Kings interested.

Whilst your waiting for a kingie to hammer your bait if you have a second rod dont be afraid to throw some lures around, surface poppers and sugar pens go down well with kingies.

Cheers mate, anywhere I should try out I don’t mind a trek as long as it’s safe to do so, able to fish land based only.

@Kyle_9173 I will accept this if you submit it into the Records section

In future please look at the rules and guidelines for submission of fish. Take a pic of the fish on a measuring mat. If you or any raider is claiming a record badge this is usually a must.

Thank you very much, have only been using the forum for a short while now will record any potential fish

Just slots in to third place I think. Record is 47cm. Second place is 43cm (which I just equalled on fly the other week). The 3rd place was 41cm.

Beautiful catch on SP. Think I've only ever had one on soft plastic (and one on a vibe) so I suspect it would have been a bit of a surprise.

So I have third place on the blackfish on sp?

What type of lures? Based on the rod suggestions above and reel you have, it sounds like a popping rod is probably the extent of your luring.

The other popular kingie lure is the slapstix - i dont think think you need a super flexy rod but a bit of softness would help the action of the lure- i think the rods above might be too stiff but I can't say for sure as I don't have them.

@DerekD , as an owner of that rod, do you reckon it can impart the right action for a slapstix?

And of course metal jigs are your other lure option, depending on the type you can prob get away with the above rods.

In terms of lures will be slapstick’s and metal jigs that and the odd metal or stinking stick bait to get under the bust ups for kingys. Will be mainly focused on metals and floating live baits our squid and yakkas mainly with prawns
