I didn't have to search very hard actually. You are welcome to provide counter evidence of more failures in anchoring gear with gal mild steel (good luck with that). As I keep having to point out bringing  up other uses is a diversion/ the whataboutism rhetorical fallacy.

    Anyway here's another informative article:

    https://www.practical-sailor.com/blog/is-stainless-steel-really-the-best-metal-for-use-in-an-anchor

if me bringing up other uses is a diversion, isn't you not posting or answering the question about the fixings on your boat also a diversion?

that's some serious inception stuff there...

enjoy your mild steel boat fixings, ill enjoy my stainless steel ones.

I know mine will look 10 times better, and last 10 times longer.

but hey, you do you mate.

  2. out of curiosity,

can you post. pic of your boat with mild steel fixings. id love to see how that hold up after a few uses.

316ss is the go for salt water environments...... yes you have listed failures of it, but im sure there would be far more failures of people using MS.

I mean if you search hard enough you can find "evidence" of the earth being flat......

  3. hi all,

just wondering is anyone has a boat mechanic they would recommend around the northern beaches (Sydney)?

is there a site sponsor who does this sorts work in the area?

about to open the wallet on a boat, and want a few bits and bobs done before I get her wet- hydraulic steering, dual batteries, etc.

  4. thanks for the replies!!

I saw the one in malabar, but it seems to be a bit older than the one I am looking at- although it should give me an idea of what I am getting into.

the one in the pic isn't the one I am looking at- I just checked with the owner if his trailer is braked- luckily (or unluckily) it is.

I did look a 470 breeze on the central coast a few weeks ago, but could instantly tell that we would out grow it fairly quickly... esp if I take myself and 2 mates out fishing.

  5. hi guys and girls,

just wondering if anyone in Sydney has a Haines Hunter 520sf- late 90s model.

I am looking at buying one atm, but it is in Victoria, and im hoping to save the drive down there by seeing if anyone has one I could just have a look at to see if it would work for what I want it for (family/ fishing)

happy to buy you beer for your time.

or does anyone have any pros and cons on this style of boat?

    thanks in advanced.;

  6. hey raiders,

I've found a boat I am interested in buying in Melb, problem is, I live in Sydney.

does anyone know of or have and recommendations of a pre purchase inspector down that way?

I don't wanna make the 10 hour drive to find out its nothing like its pics and needs a heap of work to it.

    thanks in advanced.

  8. Yeh i get into it a fair bit, gone from bodybuilding style work outs, to now more power lifting/ strength training.

Its been hard lately ,  but i made a set of dumbells with steel pipe, buckets and some quick dry cement, which has helped me continue moving and not losing too much mass.

I started training in 2011 at a mere 57kg, i now hover between 89-95 kg depending on my diet.

  9. Thanks for the replies so far.

The rest of the boat is in good nick, the motor is a df90, unsure of the year of it- at a guess 2004 ish.

From whar ive been told its a licensed mechanic doing the repairs, but as some have said, ill be asking for a receipt.

  10. Hi guys, first time poster here...

Im looking at buying a boat, and the motor is a 90hp Suzuki.

The seller is having the head gasket replaced as we speak after a abnormal compression test.

Question is, would this be a boat i should walk away from,  or do you guys think the risk is low given the head gasket has now been replaced?

    Thanks
