  1. Hi,

I'm a keen fisherman and regularly fish my local waterway, Port Hacking in my tinnie.

I've never really done a lot of offshore fishing (apart from the occasional charter) but really want to get some experience heading out wide to the shelf in search of some  tuna and other game fish. (Not sure if the tuna season is already over?)

Happy to contribute with cost of petrol and help clean boat ect. I don't have any serious offshore gear and really I'm just happy to tag along and hold your camera whilst you reel in a big one.

I'm very flexible with work and love to fish mid week to avoid crowds.

If anyone has a spot on their boat please DM me.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Sounds like a great time up north, a great feed of fillets to bring home, and a couple of photos of good fish.

Some fish of a lifetime for us on that trip and a freezer full of Spanish Mackerel so win win.

  3. Hi raiders,

Recently did a trip to Weipa where the wife and I fished with a local guide for 3 days.

We were very fortunate to have a great weather period and low swells so the fishing and conditions were amazing.

I'm not sure I'll have the same luck over the winter period in the Hacking but the pressure is off because we now have a freezer full of fish.

    Fish of note were;

    46cm Mangrove Jack

    82cm Queenfish × 6

    10kg Spanish Mackerel

    105cm Black Jew x 2

    100cm Black Jew

    10kg Grey Mackerel

    70cm fingermark

    66cm fingermark

We caught numerous other species such as long tail tuna, coral trout (which i was told aren't all that common around weipa), black spot cod and blue tusk. Even saw a few permit swimming around, however couldn't get them to bite.

Lost many more fish to bull sharks including a 120cm plus Black Jew which was disappointing, would've liked to see that big girl swim back down but these things happen.

Was really a great trip, it was my first time fishing up north and the wife and I had such a good time. We'll definitely be going back.

    Photo's to follow.

    Thanks

  4. Hi all,

Haven't had a lot of luck over the past few months, I'm blaming the rain but it's probably more the fact that I'm just an average fisho haha.

A few whiting and flathead but nothing really to report so haven't bothered.

Today I put the boat in at 5.30am and fished around Lilli Pilli.

I had one rod fishing the bottom and an unweighted rod which was drifting down the berley trail.

Caught a few tailor, biggest going 56cm which was a nice fish.

After 3 hours or so fishing my unweighted rod took off, big head shakes and taking line. I thought I was onto a nice jewie. As the fish was coming up to the boat, I saw what looked like a woebegone shark (I have caught them previously in that same spot) I was slightly disappointed but then as it got closer again, I realised it was a monster flathead. Panic started but luckily I was fishing with my dad and he managed to net it for me.

She came in at 79cm and seriously, the photo's don't do her justice. She was a stonker, could not believe how thick she was.

Quick photo and sent on her way to make some more babies.

Anyway, what was a fairly average day turned into a great day with a PB.

All fish caught on salted yakka fillets.

    Thanks for reading.

    Hi Bill

If you fished the hacking a bit you might more likely recognise this boat.

Bruce (dad) has only had the grey boat a for a few weeks.

    Well done on the Jewfish.

    Hi Ash,

The grey boat certainly stands out a bit more than a white cuddy. I've only really started fishing the Hacking the last 12 months or so.

Hopefully some legal kings and another jew before the end of summer 🤞

    Cheers,

    Bill

Looking at your report sounds like we were same areas on thurs. I was in a grey cuddycabin and anchored out off lilli pilli  or on sandflat. Pumped nippers at mainbar.

The kings even small are still exciting to catch.

    Bruce

    Hey Bruce,

We were chasing the same school of kings for a while. I was in the black open boat.

Saw you at a few of the regular spots.

I won't be out much now due to school holidays but I'll say g'day if I see you out there again.

Do you fish the hacking much?

    Cheers,

    Bill
