  1. The breakwalls good at the marina got a good king there a week back. The islands out the front are good if you have a boat. Also the islands in the middle of the bay are apparently good for jewies (havn't caught one there myself though)But when you get into town ask one of the local tackle stores they where very helpful to me with info when I was last up there and they will give you some good info of whats biting and where. Cheers, Joe
  2. looks good mate.. Have you tested it yet? How does it go when it is full and you go over waves etc. Now all you need to do is pack it full of livies. Joe
  3. Hi mate, Actually my inlet is three quarters of the way up the tank. How I have set it up is the hose running to my inlet has a flow valve or switch to stop the water running out or to stop the the tank filling up if I do not want to use the tank. However someone mentioned a flow or one way valve which sounds like a good idea. I use two outlets so I don't get over flow and since the inlet is (nearly) as high as the outlets I bought a $2 ninety degree hose connection that I just push into the inlet and rotate it down to what ever angle I want this sends the fresh water all the way to the bottom works great. I personally wouldn't put the inlet in the bottom as unless you have a one way valve that works. if you turn the pump off or is stops working you will find your tank empty and livies sunbaking as the water will drain back out through the pump. when I turn my pump off i close off my valve to stop the water running back out the inlet. And by having the inlet three quarters of the way up the tank if I forget to close the valve off it only drains out to the inlet which is still three quarters full. Good luck with it if you'd like me to take a few pics to explain what I mean let me know. I do like the idea of a one way valve I never thought of that I may look at adding one on myself. Cheers, Joe
  4. Hi mate, I used a home brew kit and find it awesome. great circulaion keeps alive for ages..slimmies etc. heres a link from another thread when I was building it http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=41713&st=0&p=313610&hl=live%20bait%20tank&fromsearch=1entry313610 good luck.
  5. Hi All, Does anyone know where the steps at Catherine hill bay are? I am refering to the fishing spot. Apparently it is only a few hundred meters off the southern headland or something. I sounded out around there last year but couldn't find much structure or drop offs etc. but I only went a couple of hundred meters out. Any info would be great am thinking of giving it a go on the weekend. Cheers, Joe
  6. Hi guys, A mate is looking at buying a kayak for fishing and I've been having a browse to try to help find one for him. I know a few people here love there yaks so I thought I'd ask your advice if any one has any recomendations. He is looking to spend under a grand. Would like to have a couple of rod holders good stability and some storage ie for fish (not sure if most of you yak fishos store your fish on board or in fish nets of the side) Any advice would be great. I'm not getting one but have been excited looking at the kayaks on the market. But people who have actually used them have the best advice I find so any info would be great. Cheers, Joe.
  7. I think like any sport there are rules and consequences. I think a three strikes and you out rule. Warn them twice with gestures to move out of your way/trail etc. If they refuse I think any one in throwing distance is fair game so after every trip all your left over cubes that have dried out and are no good refreeze. Make sure on your next trip they are mashed and thawed and smelly and on the third strike unleash at there boat it will give you great amusement, get rid of unwanted bait and your throwing arms distance sets a presedent for other berley stealing b#stards
  8. Well finished my DIY Livie tank and tested it this arvo and it works a treat (no livies yet) But water flow was great so bring on summer. A big thanks to Framedtrash and Jim77 for their advice it came in handy. Now to sneek in my down rigger under the wifes raidar \ Here is a pic of the end result.
  9. Excellent mate thanks for the pics. Cheers, Joe
  10. Thanks guys some great info there. I'll definitely take it on board when setting it up. Cheers, Joe.
  11. Hi All, I've read some great info on the DIY section on live bait tanks and thought I would throw a quick question out to see if any one has any input. I am finally getting a live bait tank soughted out for my boat. Planning on a similar setup as some of the guys have done in the DIY section with a stainless steel pickup attached to a external (non though hull) pump running by hose to a flow switch to a plastic round container as has been suggested as a good way of circulating water to keep livies in good condition. Now I have looked at some other peoples setups with sixty litre tanks that look the ducks guts but I will find it difficult with a tank this size sitting and attaching it to the transom. So after searching the internet for round plastic style barrels with screw on lids with limited success I had a brain storm. My home brew kit I used Twice and probably will not use again seems perfect it is about thirty litres round screw on lid has a tap hole for drainage at the bottom so seems a perfect option. However it only holds thirty litres and probably 27 litres where I'll install the outlets etc. Is this going to be too small for a 500gal pump such as johnson or Rule which seems to be the common ones for Live bait tanks? Also ideally how do these pumps perform to keep squid alive when they decide to have a squirt of ink will my size talk be like a gas chamber to the other live squid etc. Any advice will be most appreciated. for me and the live bait Cheers, Joe
  12. I think Summer mate, But you get some big squid in winter I think they breed then but am not sure. Go out of Swansea heads and there is alot of kelp just out there towards the island good for squid. Need some bigger jigs though. Cheers, Joe
  13. Gday Byron that belt is awesome. Lets just hope you havn't set your drag to tight and three passing hoodlem 30 kilo kings don't take each bait simultaneously or you could be learning how to barefoot water ski. Great stuff have you ever had multiple hookups whilst wearing the waist rocket launcher? cheers, Joe
  14. A few guys were catching tailor out the front of moon island a couple of weekends ago. Also there are alot of salmon around out the front. My mate boated a nice one nearly spooled him on real light line plus he only had about a hundred or so metres ion his spool but they fight so well and put on a great show jumping four foot out of the water...well this one did anyway. Also has anyone else noticed the amount of sweep around the island they were everywhere all the way down to catherine hill bay we saw them. Thought it was a bit unusual. Anyone get any kings up this way recently?
