As for my location, I currently live in Belmont, Lake Macquarie/Newcastle NSW - Going to visit the local Tackle World/BCF/Anaconda stores to have a chat with more people & see what they also recommend. I’m considering purchasing the penn surf combo 10ft rod / 20lb braid / 30lb leader / 30-50g lures.

G’day, I’ve been interested in surf based fishing & off the rocks fishing for a long time now & after binge watching Briggsy on YouTube I’ve decided to give it a red hot shot. Got some questions to ask the community. Q1: What Rod/Reel would be ideal for a beginner? Should I purchase a surf combo for learning? (PENN SPINFISHER 650SSM SURF COMBO 10ft or 12ft) or similar? Q2: I would like to focus on using lures, what LB braid/LB leader should I aim for? Q3: I’ve heard 9-10ft rods are better for lure based fishing on beaches/off rocks as opposed to 11-15ft rods, is this true? Looking forward to hearing back from everyone, Cheers.
