  1. Great report KM. I like the notes at the end. Really helpful for those of us trying to learn. Good format. Tight lines, Qw
  2. I wouldn't go near that bar in a bloody pilot boat. No unless you're planning on a swim. And the greay coats are reasonably prolific out there too. From about now on the bluenose whiting come on. Try lightly weighted nippers with a couple of red beads over a red long shanked hook, down on the last sweeping bend before the main river reached the V wall (below the entrance to Warrell Ck). You can't go wrong Even if you miss them, there's always a few thumper flatties willing to take a nipper. Qwyjibo
  3. Shan, I holiday there every year. The Golf club ramp's the best - runs down into a deep water creek (even on dead low tide) that joins the main river, so you never have to fight the wind or current when you're launching/retrieving. There's a beach either side too, which is convenient. There's no beach at the RSL ramp. Much easier to bang up your boat there Never had a problem with theft there. Just don't leave valuables in the car. Best flattie fishing in the state! Qwyjibo
  4. Hey all. Heading down this weekend to fish the Shoahaven, and maybe Sussex Inlet. An word on how the fishing's been the last week or so? Particularly keen to hear if the whiting are on the chew. Ta, Qwyjibo
  5. Hey Daleyboy, I've seen it happen a few times before on Worrell Creek (offshoot of the Nambucca River) in mid autumn when the water's nice and warm - at least 23.5, better around 25. Always happens to me on 3 - 4" pumpkinseed flick baits, and no other lure! Never on bait. Always happens on the flats where the water's no deeper than 1m. I've had around five 45 - 50 cm models get up and tail walk like a bloody marlin! These things go psycho Blew me away the first time it happened, now I look forward to it. Awesome when it happens. Who ever said flatties were lazy buggers?? Qwyjibo
  6. Hey Guys, I'm looking into a motor for my Hornet (4m). Who's best to speak to about the new Watersnakes? (dealers I mean). Do they help with installation as well?
  7. Hey guys. I reckon Whiting on SPs are underrated. I caught my biggest ever blue nose (40cm) on a 4cm pumpkinseed grub around midday on boxing day two years back on Port Hacking. Every man and his dog was out playing with his new Xmas presents, whitewash everywhere, and I cop my PB whiting! Who'd have thought it! The problem is specificaly targetting them - they tend to be by-catch when you flick for flatties. I know where to find them, but haven't sorted out the best approach yet. This summer I'm going to try to find she smallest, reddest wormiest looking SPs I can and see if that works. Any thoughts?
  8. Jimmy - that's a top analogy! Helped put Jewgaffer's post in context for me. Nice.
  9. Some good ideas coming out there fellas. I'm learning heaps. Now I just need to try it out. Has anyone caught yakkas higher up middle harbour - like in Long bay or Bantry bay? Do they hang around any particular structure? Last question Do they show up on your sounder at all?
  10. Thanks Dicko. Is bread a suitable berley for Yakkas?
  11. Hi all, First post! I've moved this year and have been fishing middle harbour for about 9 months. Doing ok on the flats and around the drop offs (like Clontarf) for flatties, but I'd like to get into live baiting for some of the bigger hoodlums out there. Trouble is, I don't know where to start. Can anyone suggest a couple of good spots to chase up yakkas, squid etc.? I know how to pin squid if I can find them, but I've never gone after yakkas before - any tips there very much appreciated. Thanks all! Qwyjibo
