  1. Hi All Ended up fishing mol point with live nippers and pilchard, ended up catching 3-4 good size trevally and 1 nice bream. Put the bait jigs down and pulled a few yakkas up and had them out the back with no hits unfortunately. Then around 7pm moved to the third runway in 8 meters of water ended up with another 4-5 trevally and 4 flathead (45, 38, 50, 48cm). About 8:30pm I had a dead nipper on a 1/0 hook literally on the bottom.. then BANG.. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz I thought geeze this is either a real nice flathead or a big trevally. After alot of fighting and 10 minutes later... ended up pulling a jewie around 65-70cm and as I was about to net it clipped the side of the ladder and bang... (DEVOSTATED) I could not beleive it took a nipper either.... Ended up staying on the 3rd runway for a few more hours and caught 2 x port jacksons and 1 x shovel nose shark. ( I dont know why but every week I end up catching a porty...) and some more trevs and bream. Thats my post... pics to come shortly once i get them off my mobile. Cheers Chris.
  2. Hi Fishraiders, I am looking at going up to maggy island (townsville) for a few days next month.. just want to know if any one has been up recent and whats been biting. Last time I was up we went fishing off a large wharf and was catching queenies and mackeral to 5-10kg... Hope the action is still the same. Does anyone know any good places to fish around the island, I was thinking of hiring a boat and exploring for a few hours.. Thanks All Regards Chris.
  3. Great Report Mate. Those kings are everywhere along the oil wharf and hot water outlet at the moment. I had two massive bust offs on the weekend which I beleive was a rat king trying to take half a pillie. Good work and getting the young gun into fishing early is great. Thanks Chris.
  4. Hi Fellow Fishraiders, I was wondering if anyone can shed some knowledge on catching live bait. Eg./ Yakkas and Small Squid for jews/kings. I have been trying to catch yellowtail everywhere and cant seem to ever get onto a school, and the same goes for squid. Is the best option to fish with the fly jigs for yakkas? I have also been fishing along towra weed beds for squid and can never get a hold of any, I am using a squid jig about 10cm long and bright orange/yellow, retreiving at a slow jerk rate. I am fairly new to fishing live bait as I am quite good at soft plastics but want to get more kings and jew this summer, so any help on catching or rigs or locations in botany bay would be appreciated. Thanks guys.. Chris.
  5. Hi All, Went out on the boat sunday for a quick flick with plastics along Dolls-Oil Wharf. Ended up catching over 15 trevally using pilchard and nippers. Caught a thumper at 2.2kg and took about 10mins to bring in on 4lb braid. Fantastic day and to top it off I caught my PB flathead which landed 82cm - 3kg. Will post pictures shortly.... Thanks Guys Chris.
  6. HI Guys, Thanks very much for the replies, i will give them all a shot. Those anchors come at a price 50 bucks ea and i will do almost anything to stop it happening. I dont know if they get snagged or if the sand is that heavy and we cant lift it back up. I had two people try to lift my anchor and we ended up with alot of sore hands. I will try that reversing trick. Thanks for the tips guys... much appreciated. When you guys anchor from the break wall, how far do you anchor from it? 20-30 ft? Thanks Chris.
  7. Hi Thanks for the responses. I am not sure how to setup the anchor tripping as per described. I have a Sand Anchor (Danforth Type) which has a tripping hole on the bottom of the anchor i believe. I am not sure how to rig this up? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in Return Chris.
  8. Thanks, I have been fishing towra in about 1 meter of water in very clear conditions over the sand/weed beds. I am not sure if i should be fishing deeper or near channel markers? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. Is it worth to berly when fishing with soft plastics? thanks Chris.
  9. Hi Guys/Gals, This is my second post and I am glad that these forums exist! I have been out in botany bay around 4-5 times in my new boat and have picked up only a few small trevally and flathead on lures. I was wondering if anyone can give me boat fishing tips in Botany Bay with regard to good places to fish for flathead and bream/trevally along with consistant results. I have tried drifting along towra and the brighton beachs with little success. Any help with this would be much appreicated. I usually fish with soft plastics and hard body lures however I am dirfting towards bait fishing and would like to know hints on how to fish the bay. thanks and regards Chris.
  10. Hi Fish Raiders, I am fairly new to boating, however have enough knowledge to keep myself out of trouble and meet the rules and regulations set by the maritime. My question is: What is the best way to unsnag an anchor in botany Bay? (besides cutting it off). I have now lost two anchors, once over near trevally alley and the other just 15-20 meters from the drums. I usually buy a sand anchor and allow only enough rope out to set anchor and stop the anchor from drifting. What am i doing wrong? Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks and regards Chris.
