  1. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone caught the story last night about the revised dioxin levels in Sydney harbour fish ( Flathead and Jackets). It started out as a positive story for fishos with latest studies showing that dioxins in some speicies were lower then originaly thought but ended with comments from National Parks that it might be a good time to look at removing rec fishing pressures from more parts of the harbour. Can't find a link to it on Nines site - I'm sure I didn't imagine it. Cheers, Reefhunter.
  2. Hi Shan, According to my book there are three ramps in Macksville. All suitable for boats up to 5.5m and all of average quality. The better two are listed as "east side of road bridge (300-400m) on the south bank. Ramp = Fair, Parking = Poor, Concrete 1 lane. "West of road bridge (50m) on north bank. Ramp = Fair, Parking = Good, Gravel 1 lane. Hope that helps. Reefhunter
  3. So this weekend will not be the last time I get to fish Mermaid Reef. Common sense has prevailed.
  4. I'll be chasing snapper and kings offshore during the day and jew off the sand at night up at Crowdy Head. Can't wait. Reefhunter
  5. I fished the lake last weekend and only hooked one redfin between three of us over a three hour period. I find that until the water in the lake warms up the redfin are very slow. From December - April they are hard not to catch. I just use soft plastics and spinnerbaitswhen chasing redfin. We also had worms out last weekend but not even a sniff. Reefhunter
  6. Thanks Hooky, I will contact them today. Cheers, Reefhunter
  7. Hi All, I'm considering upgrading my gps to a plotter and would like to know if the marine park boundaries are noted on the third party maps ie C-map, Bluechart and others. If I buy a map card and new marine parks are added can I modify the maps in a meaningful way. Sorry if this is a simple question but 2 days of googling has resulted in zippo. Cheers, Reefhunter.
  8. Thanks for the quick replies. I will investigate either the "rice strainer"( why didn't I think of that) or a better quality net from the pet store. I hope you all get amongst them on the coming long weekend. Cheers, Reefhunter.
  9. Hi All, Enjoying the site very much. I am looking for a small net to use to remove small/med squid, scads and slimies from my bait tank. I have been buying cheap nets from aquarium stores but these seem to be easily damaged. Other then your hands, what do you use? And where is the best place to find one? Cheers, Reefhunter
  10. Hi Silverfish, My first post but something I know a little about. My family has had a house there for the past 20yrs and this is where I do most of my offshore fishing. Boat ramp is excellent and at this time of year offshore you will get snapper, flathead and pesky leatherjackets. Be prepared for a silly amount of big red rock cod and Sargent bakers before finding the quality fish. If it's rough then there's alway good salmon and tailor under the lighthouse from the stones. Good luck getting any useable information out of the locals. The well known marks in any GPS book are actually a good place to start. A trip out with the local charter will give you better spots.
