Tef1on you sure about the red lines? So from that image the end of the runway is a no go zone for fishing?

Happy New years fishos! May 2015 bring bigger fish!
For those who fish the bay, how you getting on with the kingies? Nothing of any keepable size has come in. I've been fishing them hard during December and only picked up the odd rat. I remember last few years catching sizes from 80-100cm consistently during December in the bay and squid wouldnt last 5min in the water. Have you guys noticed it being very slow this season? Is it the water temp in the bay not being consistent? Whats your thoughts?

i have a saragosa 18000 for kings, jigging and live baiting! I believe a tough reel and recommend it. Had big hoolums hooked on locked drag, of course any big fish will peel line but i have a lot of confidence in it! But i can't comment on stradic as i havn't used. Just my 2 cents on the the reel!

Great catch!
Its really good to see jewies in numbers atm even if they are not the big beasts.

where were you fishing nicko? alaska.
poor thing looks freezing. i did a session out there the other night. all nighter on that gun spot i gave you the marks for.
wasnt a gun spot this night, just pickers. Had squid from the fishmarkets too.
anyway, 2am the wind was going straight through me. Had a mate up the front with a sleeping bag over his head to beat the breeze. I was down the back with 3 layers of clothing and a winter sleeping bag, didnt do a thing.
Jewie fisherman are a special bunch during winter especially.
might save the next night till tshirt and thongs weather.
Brother i was wearing thermos, 2 shirts and 2jumpers..... Sooo cold.
Shame about ur session. Somehow we need a portable heater for our next session.

Sounds like a solid session. Congrats to your wife on catching her first Jew Where bouts on the Georges where you?
Front of connells point

Bit of a late report. Monday night got out with the misses armed with frozen squid on the georges and it was a great session. Didnt catch anything big but the plenty caught and missed. Landed 5 jews ranging 50-60cm. Only kept one for dinner.
Night consisted of double hook ups and multiple runs going off at the same time.
So proud of the misses landing her fish in the pic below.
Lately been catching lots of little jews around that size. Anyone else finding lots of small ones around?
Tight lines!

Well done on the kings Fishinick! Looks like you hooked up inside near the bommy and Nice to know Molli's has some keepers. Is that a stella in the background?

With yeaterdays weather you would be mad to not have gone out!!
Hit the bay nice and early. Bait tank more than full leaving the squid bitting and off to the pick up kings.
First drop and scored this going 90cm. The old man hooked onto another at 80cm and then a few bust offs
Tide started to rise so moved to moli point and picked up another 80cm which went back into the drink!
Tight lines guys!!

Well done boys I just wish I knew where to get squid in the bay.
Tight lines
Ange
anywhere u can find kelp along the rocks is where u will find squid

You shouldnt be using a baitrunner for big kings... compare the max drag on the baitrunner to a saragosa. Plus how are you bringing the fish in? Sounds like your not using the power of the rod and too much pressure on the reel. Lift the rod then on the slack whind in line... i wouldnt be trying to whind whilst the fish is talking line or on heavy load.

Was out on sunday.... big bust off and a rat.... too many boats were out. but yea the bay has been far too quiet for the time if year. big ones have started to move in though
-
Great catch!! Awsome to see the young lads catching big fish! pro in the making!! im sure we'll see more of his posts in the future!
True u dont need 80lb leader for kings but all depends on terrain ur fishing... we lost kings on sunday with locked up 18000 saragosa on 80lb because of the reef in the area we fish. so no matter what braid u use if they rub u on a reef ur gonskis
-
well done!!
mate no suprise kings are still in the bay!!! i've caught them all year round in the bay!! have a live squid out or yakka when ever you there and im sure it will produce!!!
Botany kings
