mate the best catch you'll have there is cheap tackle!! Make sure you're bringing heaps of luggage, stuff is cheap over there now that the dollar is where it is.
-
Great report again Dean. A dozen fish is a terrific bonus, on top a weekend away with a mate.
Great photos, particularly the one of the campfire. Reminds me of countless outings enjoyed on the banks of the Murray.

Well done, very jealous of your results! I never do as well as that in the rivers up there.

I cant see a pic
must have been snowing
-
i hear the rain they had there has made it pretty tough.
-
mate, I'm about to buy a 6500 myself....to save you a buck, you can order them from the US for $119 (plus 15 or so for p&h) - with our dollar so good, it's a bargain.
-
I am very jealous of your success...I haven't had too much luck in the rivers up there.
-
top work!!! Lyell is firing!
Shame the pics didn't make it....
-
mate, after that trout you caught the other week, why are you looking elsewhere? I've been fossicking around obes for years, we've never seen one like that in the rivers.
-
Well done on some great trout fishin, with some very fat & healthy looking fish too.
well done!!! I too had a birthday trout session, dropped a nice one on the shores of lake oberon, that's about it. It was about a metre from shore, took one jump in the air, threw the hooks and that was that. Also lost another much smaller one in a river near by. That's an amazing fish from the river in particular. You're obviously a lot better than me!

This is a great website with lots of people ready to help 3 cheers to all of you!!!!!
This does happen - on the weekend we had big chunks taken out of our fresh yellow tail (8 of them) by a single squid. I'd imagine he'd have a go at live ones too - same spot each time, just behind the head.

Gday Raiders,
Whats all ur plans for this weekend?
Weather dont look the best (for sydney) but im thinkin sunday might be ripe for an early morning assault on the harbour. Think i might hit the rose bay area and chase some kings and if no love their move on to the flatties.
I'm scheduled to go to lake macquarie tomorrow....bit worried about the weather...
-
saw the post on Lyell, anywhere else firing at the moment?
-
Thats my local fishing spot, and that flattie looks like the one that got away from me last year, lol!
I live in that area, and am very pleased to see and hear about your catch, it has made me even more motivated to get my act together.
WELL DONE! Now thats what I'm talking about, it's ALL GOOD.
Rod.
I recognise that boat harbour too! My dad is up there almost every weekend!

Jewgaffer,
Looks like I missed out Thursday, but would you be interested in a day/night next week?
Let me know if you are. I would love to meet up with you.
Cheers
Mitch

Check the Cox's, Kowmung and Wollondilly. They all have very remote sections that aren't off limits. They're all pretty swollen at the moment though, give it a month at least for them to clear up.
-
There are open rivers now, you just have to be prepared to walk and camp!
-
We went there the other weekend and caught one small one. The Kowmung is quite a river! We'll be doing the big hike down one of these weekends.
-
unfortunately not....it'll be shore based... was thinking some bankside river stuff. Not quite the upper clarence but I hope worth the trip.

Somehow I managed to convinve the to go on a road trip over xmas stopping at Barrington tops and eventually up to the Walcha/Armidale area.
Does anyone have suggestions for fishing locations up there? you hear all sorts of things about the trout and bass, but I haven't been able to get a straight answer, particularly about this time of year. We were also keen to do some camping.
Thanks

"Salmon after Salmon".... wow. We were in Pittwater Tues and saw schools of massive salmon and threw every lure we had at them and they wouldn't take one! They even swam under the boat. What's the secret??? We'd love just one!

Guys,
Thanks for the replies, sorry I haven't replied, I have been on holidays and offline for a week. It is truly beautiful countryside! Even more remote than the Colo, which we went to earlier this year.
To answer the question, it was definately not a designated trout stream. Like was mentioned, I think it is because of its inaccessibility and the fact that the fish are coming upstream from Warragamba dam, where they can't be caught. Apparently at the moment there are significant sand banks at the mouth of the coxs and wollondilly which stop this migration.
Allan, I am not sure if you are correct. We camped opposite the Orange cliff (bluff).
In regards to the female companion, she was no ordinary girl! Cara could keep up with us and was quite commendable! At that time of year, your daylight hours don't go on much past 5 so you need to keep moving.
Anyone Know Of A Good Darwin Charter?
in Plan a Fishing Trip

you may not have time to go there, but there's an excellent charter out of dundee beach. It's a bit of a drive but you get good offshore action and river action - plus there's a (modest) fishing lodge there. We cleaned up on spaniards and small ish barra there last thime, but saw some big jews and barra.
