  1. I'm off to Lithgow for a pre-back-to-work getaway with the at that resort above lake lyell. Are there trout there this time of year? How's the level? Should I go to TCD instead? Is trout fishing on at all this time of year?
  2. On friday night, the and I went to the aquarium in DH. For those fishos who haven't been, you must go! I took some photos which you'll see below:
  3. I know there's great fishing nearby at port stephens and Lake Macq, but I've always been curious, are there any fish in Grahamstown Lake? It's massive!

Around bayview in Pittwater ain't bad either.
  5. Went to TCD but didn't do any good. I suspect that 10:30am may be too late in the morning at this time of year, especially when it's sunny...is this theory plausible? We tried the wall and attempted to walk up towards the stream but it took too long for our timetable. Fishraider Covo (who was with me) spent the night on the Kowmung, I'll let him post his report.
  6. Thanks! I'll check it out over the weekend! I hope it's not too windy and they're on. I haven't been there before, but the wall is a good bet, no?
  7. Am thinking of heading to TCD on the weekend on my way to the 's old's in orange. Is it still firing this time of year? Is there actually a Thompson's Creek? Are there any fish in it (now that the season has opened)?

If you look closely, the waveski is called "raider" - how appropriate!

excellent, thanks for the info guys! I'll keep looking over the weekend! this is what I've been using recently - it just isn't the same!
  10. I reckon I can top you all...about 1987 my dad and his best mate were fishing from north curly. A sunday fisherman next to them was casting out slugs and caught my dad's mate in the face. Ripped his eye out and threw him to the sea. Dad had to go and get him and swim around, the eye wasn't able to be replaced - he has a glass one now. I was 9 at the time and I know to always look behind me when I cast! And to watch out for sunday fishermen!

I am keen to buy a kayak for a summer full of fishing soon! One thing that I am pondering over - there seems to be a lot of sit-on types on the market, and not many of the Bass-style covered types. What are the pros and cons of each? I can think of the advantage of not getting wet and sunburnt in the bass-style, but there's a lot of the others on the market and they all appear to have storage compartments and lookm quite stable. Can anyone give some suggestions?
  12. Thanks for the tip! Didn't have any luck, but liked what I saw! I had a go near the hyatt, and also near duntroon. There were fish jumping in the river near duntroon - not porpoising like carp, but decent breaches of the water. Any idea what they were? I was hoping Trout! They didn't take lures, but I can imagine in a boat it'd be much bettter, as you said. I'd love to know what those fish were!
  13. I've brought down a few lures, are SP's popular?
  14. Am off to Canberra for work/play this weekend. Any suggestions of good spots? The will be at floreade, so I have plenty of time. I'm probably going to use lures and see what I get (yellas, trout, cod, redfin). Has anyone tried the section of the river near the airport? I've heard ginninderra falls is good - any experience there?
  15. Is there much access to Spring Hill Creek? All of the maps that I have make it look pretty isolated and non-accessible.
  16. Mitch, Thanks for the tip! I might try Spring Hill, if the monsters are there! I have tried Gosling, but not too hard. Is there an ideal time of day?
  17. I am heading to Orange on the weekend to visit the 's family. We don't have time to visit anywhere on the way, but I will have time to do some fishing if there's some around. I've tried lake canobolas and Spring Hill Creek (?) but only quickly and without any real knowlege of spots or time to really explore. Any suggestions on where to go? Are there trout up there? If not, what else is available? Any hints would be appreciated.
  18. I had one jump towards the boat and just catch the lip of the boat in front of my mate's head (he was sitting down) and bounce off. Tell you what, a couple of centimetres hight and my mate would have been wearing quite the hood ornament.
  19. It will be tough to rehabilitate such an area - the pure volume of silt there is amazing. I'd say there is a fair bit of water flowing through the silt (as it does) but from a fishing perspective, there'd have to be a lot of channel rehabilitation to get it back to scratch. I loved the downstream areas though - can't wait till its warmer and to put my canoe in for some fishing. It is a really pretty area, I like it a lot! I didn't get any further than St Albans, but I understand you can follow the road a long way up. Worth a weekend.
  20. For those who haven't been there. Sorry, I didn't take photos of the silted up areas, it was too depressing. These are the nice ones from downstream
  21. Last weekend I went for a drive up to Wiseman's Ferry and St Albans. Absolutely beautiful drive, particularly the descent into Wiseman's. For those who don't know, you cross the Hawkesbury at Wisemsan's and follow the Macdonald river from its juncture with the Hawkesbury for quite a distance to St Albans. You watch the river become a creek, then a trickle. What is a shame is that you can really see the effects of siltation on the river (in my opinion). Looking at the tidal reaches, my rod arm was quivering (it still is) but the further you get inland, and beyond the tidal limit, it's just cloudy pools on a really long sandpit. I can't imagine there being anywhere near enough depth for any freshwater fish to survive. It's a real shame, because it has a nice size catchment area, and most of it is national park. Obviously too much clearing and poor land management practices have silted up ther river.
  22. Well I can't wait for them to arrive!
  23. yep, that's the one. We got the red and white version. Very light. The yanks seem to rave about them. We're waiting for a new shipment to come over shortly. I don't know how they'd go in places like TCD as it'd be tough to get any distance from the bank. Below is a picture of what he caught and the location.
  24. I bought some lures called "trout magnet" when I was in the states for my brother who is into lures for trout. He was fishing the cowmung last year and caught a trout on his first cast with one. They're incredibly light though, almost light enough for a fly rod. Has anyone else used them?
  25. www.basspro.com has countowns for $5, minnows for $7, DT's for $5, Rattlin Raps for $2, magnums for $9 and tail dancer for $6. This is the best place I could find online, last time I went there (2004) the shops were even cheaper. One particular shop that I go to in Sydney has this "great deal" with 3 lures for the price of 2 - $48!!!! Where does the money go?
