  1. Another thought when wiring, that I did with my last trailer boat, I wired a long cable to the boat batteries, had it sitting at the front and just ran it out to the winch when I needed it, made it a lot easier, when towing with someone else's car or swapping vehicles etc

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

thanks Ian what amp rated cable did you use ?

  2. I have seen these 4WD winches on boats before.

Have you thought about power supply to the winch?

hi Dave yes I have given it a bit of thought I m thinking a fused 40/50 amp positive cable from the battery into the boot that way I can remove the fuse when not in use and just use a short negative cable from the towbar hopefully that should work

  3. hi Guys

Winching my boat onto the trailer is becoming hard for me I saw these electric winches for round $120 and thought it maybe worth while to get 1

Is anyone using these winches or similar and are they worthwhile ?

    thanks

  4. Heyy Arked

What did u use for bait??

    Cheers

    Panooch :biggrin2:

    Hi Panooch

I used fresh filets from small yakkas and from the larger yakkas I cut the filets into two 3 to 4 inch stips tappered at one end to resemble a smaller bait fish

Best to be out early all the flatties were caught before sun rise.Once the sun rose the fish went quiet and the holiday crowds rolled in

  5. Hi Byron

you know you are always welcome up here mate and the next few months are always the best fishing for the year !

I will be eating battered flathead and chips tonight and yes it is pretty hard to beat

    Hi Panooch

there are plenty of yakkas at little box head at the moment ,anchor in close to the big fallen rock burley up with some bread and a little tuna oil and you cant go wrong

  9. Looks like a big coi/goldfish type thing.

That would explain why it was dead in the saltwater

Some sort of wrasse i'd say otherwise

    Hi Josh

thank you I was thinking it looked like a coi or goldfish but I couldnt work out why it was in Brisbane waters I supose it could have been dumped there when it died It never ceases to amaze me what people will dump in our waterways rather than have a stinky rubbish bin!

  10. Thanks for the tips and comments guys, I am now thinking I should get another old style landing net for fishing and I will work on one with finer netting specially for crabs

We are only allowed to catch them on a handline in Brisbane Waters and its best to fully submerge the net because once they get to the surface they jump off most of the time

    thanks

  11. Hi everyone

I have got to get a new landing net and I was thinking of getting one of the enviro friendly nets with the small holes, not cause I am a greeny but because I catch blue swimmers aswell as fish and crab legs and nippers always get caught in the landing nets with large holes making it a slow and sometimes painful process to remove them

Does anyone use these new enviro friendly style nets ?if so do they have any pitfalls? ie. are they slow to drain the water out making them heavy and awkward to pick up

Are they as good as the old style landing nets for fishing?

    thanks

  12. Hi Glen

current(amps) is measured thru the positive wire only To put it simply find the pos wire on ignition cut it run one side of that wire to the s connection the other side to the i connection (use a fuse) the g is to be connected to neg wire on ignition (use fuse)

However this will only give you the current draw thru the ignition not the full current draw on the battery

I would never use 1 of these gauges as it will never show the full current draw on the battery and could cause you problems

If you are not confidend with electronics you would be better to take it to someone who is

  13. Hi Squidking

That is an interesting question I allways leave mine on and in the bait grounds the fish still seem to stay arround the boat however I have noticed the noise it makes under the water while I was swimming near the boat one day I would also be interested in what others think

  15. Hi everyone

went out this morning with my mate the burley machine, left home at about 5am and headed down to box head It was cold and cloudy but there were still a few keen surfers paddling out to little box to take advantage of the good swells rolling in

Once we got past box head the swell and chop soon got the burley machine into action this brang a small school of yakkas around the boat that I took advantage of!

I quickly caught a few cut them into strips and drifted hoping for some flatties but no good

The look on the burley machine`s white face purswaded me to head back in a bit where the swell and chop werent so bad

I picked up a few bream while the burley machine rested his sick head sleeping in the cabin once the run out tide slowed so did the bites and we headed home

oh well at least I had fun :05:post-5899-1225867358_thumb.jpg

P.S. The burley machine would greatly apprecate tips on helping to overcome his nasty condition

    Kwells dont seem to work

  16. Hi Gary

yes it was a big puppy, getting it on the boat with out hurting it to remove the hook was difficult but holding it up for a photo while Kane tried to get a decent shot on the phone camera was the hardest part !

The :wife: had thawed out flattie filets for last night so he will be eating morwong tonight

    Hi Byron

Kane has his sights on a big jewie this season meanwhile the big PJs he keeps getting are definatly helping him to get a feel for the bigger fish and helping his lift and wind technique

    Hi Ray

we had fun and it looks like you you and Hutcho had another good day! you guys are definatly getting plenty of nice flatties latly

There sure were alot of boats out yesterday It amazes me how it is so quiet out there thru the week but once the weekend comes lookout there is boats everywhere We are lucky that we get to enjoy the waterway thru the week too

    Hi Tony

now it is warming up it would be great to get out for another fish with you before you head north
