  2. i want to target jews, but also tailor and sambo's? can this be all done with one rig? i also saw on "ifish" beach fishing with pillies and sp's all on the same rig, does anyone here fish that way? cheers, oackie
  3. Would i be right in saying that tomorrow evening/night (and sat,sun and mon nights)looks like it will produce some very good fishing in sydney???there's a full moon on th 14th and there's a high tide at 8ish. but the weather dosen't look that great with s'ly winds and the chance of showers. cheers, oackie
  4. Just started to do a little beach fishing, and need a little help on the rigs. Have been useing a running rig .What other realitivly easy rigs are there for the beach??? Cheers Oackie
  5. been haveing a far bit of luck down there of late,2 weeks ago (fishing the rock opp Calabsh bay) been getting soapies to 45cm bream to 33cm (pb for me) and lots of lizards. about a month ago in the same spot we got 2 kings to about 40 cm, very strange for that far up. would be interested if anyone has or could fish (the rock) with a sounder as i dont have one, to see what kind of a drop off there is down there because it never fails me. pm me if you want further directions IF you have a sounder. cheers oackie
  6. nice fish, if you don't mind me asking? were in cowan were you when you caught her? cheers oackie.
  7. me and the boys hit the platform off palmy on sunday, pretty lame, 2 little yobbies and cod (on bait)but later on in distance we saw the sambo's and before we knew it they were all round the headland and right up to the edge of the rocks.the platform went nuts about 20 fisho's all rigging up and running everywhere.so i start flicking and with in 2 retrives i get this almighty hit and boy what a fight had trouble getting him in as we had 1 net and everyone was using it but after a 5 min fight got him up 65cm!!!so stoked i had goose bumps and was shaking but got back out ther and got another but couldn't land him, and then they swam out to the middle of the bay but i then managed to land 2 pikes that went to 38cms.all up with the boys we got 9 sambos and a tailor and 4 pike with probably 10-15 sambo's lost. after never getting anything on sp's and never caught a sambo i am 1000% addicted! i have photo's on my phone and will attempt to post. Oackie.
  8. now thats even more crazy, i have fished crosslands a few times (live just up the road) and haven't even got a bite.i hear a few stories from old timers about big bream and flatties but these stories are going back a while, but never one about a kingy.
  9. no photo's unfortunatly, but i will take it on the weekend, hopefully to get some evidence. cheers, oackie
  10. headed out from berowra waters marina at about 10am sat and fished just about the whole system for only a few bites and alot of 's. headed back in at about 4pm and gave Calabash bay a go and with in an hour we had 3 tailor to 30cm, 3 bream to 32cm 2 soapies to 35cm and 2 kingies to 38cms. i'm no expert but getting kingies this time of year and that far up berowra creek seemed to be a little strange? anywayz i'll be heading back out there next weekend for sure!
  11. Heading up there for a longweekend soon and need some advice on good spots?Staying a block from the river and have the use of a boat but will mainly be land- based due to . Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Oackie. p.s Last time i went up we took the early exit and went past Lake Cathie??? (not sure if thats what it's called). It looked really inviting. has anyone fished it?
  12. get in there fast as council might get in there and block her up due to the damage that is occuring?
  13. Thanks elk, thinking of hitting it (again) this weekend, strong w wind pridicted for saturday so it could be a good choise then. In regards to your hairtail comment, about 18yrs ago we were in refuge or j bay on the easter weekend not fishing, we decided to throw a line out and caught a little yellowtail so we then rigged it up and throw it out in the hope of a jew, forgot about it for a few hours, came back and found this big, long, shinny, mega tooth looking thing on the end which turned out to be a hairtail. If memory serves me correctly and i think it does we must have caught it at about 4pm or earlier because it was still light and we had everyone on the boats trying to figure out what it was.About 1 -1.5 m long. I had always thought they were full on nocturnal creaturs and would like to know how many ppl have caught them during the day? cheers,Oackie
  14. Took a tinny out last sat and drifted form inside Yoemans bay out to theCowan creek and got 5 squire up to 30cm,dinner plate size flounder and 2 lizardsup to 51cm in 2 hours. Not very expireanced in that area and was wondering if yoemans bay has a rep as a good spot? Going again this weekend and was hoping someone could give me a tip on some other good spots around that area? P.s Saw the biggest bream ever under the pontoon at the cottage point cafe, some of them would of been 45cm or more and of course not allowed to fish their cheers, Oackie.
  15. yep blackant , it was the reserve, just at the wharf there where it opens up. while on the topic of mccarrs creek, has anyone got anything decent up the end of the creek where it gets shallow cause it looks like great lizard country, but all i've managed is heaps of undersize whiting?
  16. went down yesterday at about 4pm and fished the mouth of the creek (off the wharf) and had a fun little session, got 2 squire, 1 baby jew, 1 legal whiting,1 legal bream (all on fresh beach worm and hawksb prawn) and then the sun went down and with the run out tide it all went very quiet and caught a little squid which were everywhere, strongy recommend jigging down there at the moment. and then at about 6pm the mother of all hits ,first off i thought it was a massive dosile lizard just slowly sucking and diving deep and then as it started to see light it runs deep again.only having a pissy little touch and no other light around makes it very difficult, so i bring this thing up and to my suprise/dissapointment it is the biggest puffer fish i have ever seen, i couldn't land him on the whalf so i had to get him to the shore and he's making all these noises like burping and growling and then starts puffing, well, fark me we almost dove for cover, he sounded like he was ready to blow and he up ended up about the size of a medicen ball.finally after carfully getting my hook out and lots of spitting and burping (on his behalf) we let him deflate and sail off into the moonlit everning. we estemated his weight at around 5kg and his lenght was from th ground to past my knee/theigh which i'd say about 60-70cm and his face was as big if not bigger than ours. / stll not sure which one... cheers, oackie p.s i have some real bad video on my phone and will try and get it up.
  17. anyone wish to disclose any good spots from land in botany bay??? is there a (breakwall) you can fish from near the runway??? thinking of hitting it this arvo before the southerly. cheers,

  19. just wondering what the sucsess rate is at night (as opposed to bait) as i am more of a bait guy. p.s i have just started useing sp's . cheers, oackie.
  20. oackie

    Squid

i used to catch them on "little beach@nelson bay" years ago using a net and a torch(very difficult) but i found it more effective using the torch and a handspear.
  21. thanks heaps guy's most informative. well it looks like there will be a little southly swell running on sat but nothing huge so at least it'll be safe(ish). i too have heard that the snapper are there during big swells so maybe this sat will be a little lame, but then again i'll never know unless i go. i 'll let you'll know how i get on. cheers
