Some good fish there. You seem to have the area pretty well worked out. Congratulations.

I just got back from two weeks in Forster. While the weather wasn't perfect there were enough clear days to get out and wet a line. Most times I went out I got enough for a feed. Nothing huge but enough to keep me happy. Mostly bream & flathead. Best bream 38 cm and best flathead 47 cm. THe highlights of the trip for me were haveing a fish with my 24 yr old daughter and catching my first silver drumer. I probably haven't been fishing with my daughter since she was about 12 yrs old. Lately she has taken up fishing again with a couple of mates with little sucsess. She managed to catch a bream of 30 cm and she was estatic. She had sent a phot to her fishing buddies about 10 seconds after the fish was in the net. Modern technology is amazing. The silver drummer was caugt after the seas got up a bit. I found a place that was protected from the main swell and lobed out a hook buried in a hunk of cunji. I actually messed up the cast and the bait ended up in about 3 foot of water about a rod length out. I started to wind in to recast and the fish grabed the bait and took off. After a short battle I landed the fish, photographed and released him to live another day. Trouble with holidays is they come to an end. Guess I'll have to start planning my next trip.

Congratulations. Theres a good feed in that lot. I might have to miss work a bit more too. I think I frrl a cold coming on.

I think i've worked out why I havn't caught a jew that big. I've been using bait that way too fresh and hooks that are way too sharp. Congratulation on the jew.

Its the ones that get away that wets our appetite most. Sounds like your getting close to that big one. Good luck for next time.

I went away for the weekend to Patonga. I must have driven past this place a hundred times in my boat but never stopped to fish there. We hired a house with great views looking over Broken Bay. I must say Patonga is a very pretty spot with a one lane boat ramp that was never really that crowded, a pub with beer garden overlooking the bay, a peir where the ferry comes in and a small creek at the end of the beach which winds its way up into the National Park. Unfortunately the people I was staying with were more drinkers than fisherman but I managed to get out and have a drift around the bay. Caught a 48 cm flathead and a 27 cm Bream along with a couple of cats eyed sharks. Probably would have done better with some Quality bait instead of the service station prawns that looked like they had been there since last century but shouldn't complain. The creek looked like it would hold some nice bream and whiting around the oyster racks but didn't get a chance to try up there. The weekend just wasn't long enough. Have started to plan my next weekend up there already. Might take the canoe and give the creek a better looking over.

We all have days like that but its still beter than work.

First off I would like to thank all the regular contributors to this site. You really do help make this a must read website with current information. Well my 17 year old son and myself went out from Brooklyn early on Saturday morning. We had a look around Broken Bay for some surface action but couldn't find any birds working so trolled around for a while without much luck. Resorted to plan B. Anchored up at Flint and Steel but after half an hour with only one nibble and the wind swinging us around we decided to look for somewhere up in Cowan out of the wind. Anchored up and got the berley stream going. Had a bit better luck here. We caught 3 trevally and a host of 3 to 6 inch bream. We kept the two bigger trevally (35 and 32cm) and sent the rest back to grow a little. Just as the bite was starting to heat up the wind picked up and blew us away from our berley trail. (Note to self - must get a sea anchor) We tried another couple of spots where the wind was going the same direction as the tide but didn't do anygood so packed up and headed home about miday. While writing this it sounds like a frustrating trip but the positives of a nice warm day and spending quality time with my son far outweigh the negatives. All in all I had a great time. Having trouble with the photos so have to leave that till next post.
