  1. Hey mate, Sounds like you ended up with a nice feed. After i spoke to you at 12 mile we trolled about 20km NE, then back to the waverider for 0-0-0. Then shot inshore and landed some rat kings and nice sized samson fish. Bad luck on the marlin but at least you got to see one, hopefully they are in the mood to feed next trip out. Andrew
  2. This has my support. It is great to share positive experiences when fishing but I feel it is important to also recognise some of the negatives. In such a manner we as a community can work to manage the situation and improve it for everyone. The sheer fact that everyone could relate to the original post and had their own (very similar) story to tell speaks for itself.
  3. rats in certain parts of the bay, only got one legal. Hopefully it will fire up soon (was there last weekend)
  4. Nice one mate, At least you got out there is this weather and landed a few
  5. Mate, there are plenty of good threads on the site with heaps of different opinions. My experiences, I have caught plenty of kings on 8lb spin gear with a 2500 reel but I also have caught them on outfits up to 80lb. Chasing rats of even legals when they are feeding on the surface in open water, then yea you can use that reel. If you want to chase the big boys or fish very close to structure, then 50lb+ is the go!
  6. By 150 C style beams are you referring to one-steel parallel flange channels (150PFC)? If so, that would be overkill for a trailer of a 14ft boat. It would be important to consider the weight of your boat, motor and the position of your axle to accurately determine the size members you would require. If you look at many of the trailers for boats up to 18ft, they are made up of hollow box sections. For the main trailer frame they are 100mm by 50mm and 3mm thick while the cross bars (where your rollers are mounted) are generaly 50mm by 50mm and 3mm thick. In terms of their strength in bending, a 100x50x3 is equivalent to a 100PFC, your 150 is in excess of 3 times what you need! In saying that, you will never have to worry about fatigue craking over time (not that should be much of an issue if the welds are good quality and you are not loading the member to its limits). You need to provide a bit more detail but at a glance, the 150 is overkill.
  7. +1 for Adventure Bound, particularly back when Neil was the host. Robson's a gimp
  8. Just follow the flotilla of boats. Sounds like you had fun tentonner!
  9. What was wrong with doing the filming during the week... Wait a minute, that would be using your brain....
  10. One method you can use is to carry a PVC pipe of about 2.5 to 3 metres in length with you. Fix it vertically to the side of the boat so it is mostly underwater. Then drop the cubes in the pipe. The cubes will leave the pipe at the bottom by which stage the cubes are 2m+ below the surface - too deep for the buggers to get.
  11. Very well said mate, some good advice and agree 100% on justifying the style of pics. Nice kings too, there are plenty of gun fish about
  12. Having not seen where you were it is difficult to say much other than this: 1) If you were inside the exclusion zone then you were in the wrong and have no right to complain 2) If you were not in the exclusion zone, it would not be the first time the water police have bugged someone and tried to make a big issue out of absolutely nothing. Earlier this year some ass was keeping rat kings. I decided to say something and got bait thrown at me and yelled at So I thought instead of throwing knife jigs at their boat - which i was very tempted - I moved away and called the water police to report the incident. I then moved to Nielson park to get away from these fools and see if the water police showed up. They did not show after two hours. I was then approached by them and was requested to have check of my safety gear... That ended in a lot of and no safety check..... So I can feel your pain if you are in the right
  13. Nice one, Yep, plenty about alright
  14. The top banner on the government's official website "clean energy future" (http://www.cleanenergyfuture.gov.au/) is.... wait for it...... "HOW MUCH DO I GET" I am sorry, but what the hell is that? So much for the environment...... Oh that gets a mention somewhere down the page. As I and others have mentioned there are various actions that can be taken to reduce emmissions. But the government won't get anything out of them, so naturally they have kept clear of them. Those who believe this is a genuine bid for the benefit of the environement need to get out of fantasy land.
  15. Such models are based on many assumptions. Take a class of mathematics and it is very easy to see how you can manipulate figures to meet a particular purpose. How else would Wayne Swan have won his little prize after blowing all the Liberal savings during an economic rough patch and bringing two deficit budgets. I can't even buy a pack of chips for $2.40. So that figure in itself is just stupid.
  16. Some great fish there mate, well done!!
  17. Nice one mate, top catch on light gear. It just shows, you don't have to go far to get quality fish - right at your doorstep
  18. Hey mate, I know you love your fishing and I anticipate you will be spending plenty of time in the new tinnie. I recommend you paint the inside of the tinnie. It will reduce the reflection of the sun and reduce your sunburn, and the boat won't turn into a fry pan in the sun (trust me it can get really hot!!!!) Nice work and keep it up.
  19. Hey mate, I just felt like using a yakka at the time. I didn't really take note of the tide, things came together once i started marking fish
  20. Hey mate, That is the older model saltist, with the star drag. I know there are still some about but I don't know if that same model exists. It is a 40H. I have used i for jigging, cubing, livebaiting and I have been very happy with it.
  21. With all the hype of Snapper over the past few months, a few weeks ago I thought I would give it a crack down south. The Coutas caused a lot of grief biting off hooks and making it difficult to get a bait past the buggers. I took my younger brother and we managed 5 nice size pannies for the table. It was a very different style of fishing to what I experienced in SA (where the snapper were also a hell of a lot bigger!!!) but we are now a little wiser and it was good to score on the first attempt. Many thanks to squidboy who guided me in the right direction. Fished middle harbour today amongst various moored boats downrigging yakkas. Scored a few kings, the biggest going a couple of mm over 100cm. After a measure and a few quick snaps, all fish were released to make more kings and grow a bit bigger
  22. Mate, Make sure you get your facts right, apart from anything it discredits your argument. Methane has a greater impact on heat retention in the atmospehere - ie a greater contributor to global warming than carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide and methane have no little to no impact on the ozone layer. Things like chloroflorocarbons are what do the damage.
  23. I agree 100% on reducing pollution and that we should take action but this tax is not the solution. As you said, no government would last taking such radical measures but that only reflects on the public (mind you, with this tax larbour won't last 5 mins at the next election either!!!!). We all sit here up in arms and claim to care about the environment but no one is willing to take a hit and act in the appropriate manner. If you said to me, "there will be a carbon tax, all proceeds of this tax are going to build solar/wind/hydro power. We have already decided the locaility of these renewable energy sources and based on our figures, all power will be renewable by 20XX" then i would say yes, let's do it. Not this rubbish they have come up with, compensate left right and centre and no future plan other than to irritate big industry. A bit off topic, but for example, nuclear energy has zero carbon emmissions. There is a great negative stigma in Australia with respect to this type of energy yet in the short term it is the most safe and cost effective method to not only reduce, but eliminate carbon emmissions from energy production. I have done extensive research and written a paper on nuclear fuel as an alternative power source for Australia, and let me tell you it is very safe for us. We have no earthquakes and Australian scientists have developed a geosynthetic rock which is perfect for storing nuclear waste so it does not harm our environment or community. But all people look at is chernobyl (which occured because people violated operating instructions) and Japan (which got hit by a massive quake). With respect to standards of living, yes we do have a higher standard of living than other countries and obviously we will emit more carbon per capita. We are fortunate to have a good country with high standards of living and as such we would all like it to stay that way. Furthermore, if we are in a good position to act on climate change, there is all the more reason to take the neccessary steps to fix the problem now. The real problem, people are selfish and are always looking for the cheap and easy option to fix something. Either that or just push the issue onto the next generation which is who will pay the environmental price for failing to do anything now to actually fix the problem.
