  1. I thought I was going crazy when I saw the end runner facing the other way to the rest. I'm glad its happened to someone else.
  2. Done the hard reset. Still no beeps. Maybe the beeper is rs.
  3. How do you do a hard reset? I've already returned the unit to the factory defaults.
  4. I was in Canada for part of that time. One day it was -27C. Could safely store bait at that temperature!
  5. My 2 year old unit has stopped beeping. No key beeps, no fish alarm beeps. I've checked and they are all turned on. Everything else works fine. This happened about 3 months ago. Any thoughts on what to do?
  6. Just before Christmas I took the boat home for its annual cleanup, then put it in a colorbond garage at the bottom of our property. For two weeks in mid January the temperature was around 40C, with several days above 42C. Who knows what the temperature was inside that shed. But when I went out for a fish today I found that the tip runner on my rod had rotated a full 180 degrees! It wasn't loose so I can only assume the glue in the tip had softened and the tip rotated under the influence of gravity. Any other thoughts? It is one of those replacement tips that come with the glue already in them. Heat up with a lighter and slip on to the end of the rod.
  7. I have stayed at the tourist park at Sanctuary Point on St Georges Basin with my 5m boat. Its very convenient if you are launching at Murrays Beach. I have also stayed at one of the Huskisson parks (there are 3) but I've forgotten its name. But the ramp there is a few km up the creek and its a slow 4kt run down to the bay, then a long run out if you're fishing near the Middle Ground. Most tourist parks are happy to have boats parked.
  8. The first year I had my boat, the fish cost over $1000/kg. But now its down to less than $50/kg. That's unfilleted! ☺
  9. You can buy an oven that plugs into a 12V power outlet. Less than $50. About 20cm x 20cm x 30cm.
  10. A pie oven! What a great idea. Can you get one that runs off 12V DC?
  11. Yeah - that's it - the second one.
  12. Not an orange roughie - they look a bit like a red rock cod. I'll see if I can find a picture. http://australianmuseum.net.au/Uploads/Images/8428/spercoides_big.jpg I don't know how to show this as a picture.
  13. What depth do these occur in? For years we've been catching small spikey orange things in 50+ metres. A bit like a small orange rock cod - we call them "orange nasties". But perhaps they are an ocean perch species? Any thoughts?
  14. Not in the Harbour, but the Boatshed at Tuross does coffee and say they will even bring it out to you on a quiet day. But a couple of stainless steel thermos flasks work well.
  15. Someone gave me a rule of thumb for what wind would be the maximum for comfort in a boat. 1kt for each foot. 5.3 m is about 18 ft. I've found this to be pretty good - my boat is 17 ft and I find 15 - 16 kts to be the maximum if I want to stay dry. But my boat is a centre console - very open. Perhaps a cuddy could take a bit more breeze. But I wouldn't be going out to a FAD if its 20 kts.
  16. The good old uni knot works well.
  17. BTW, are you enjoying the cricket? Weather forecast looks good for fishing offshore Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. And OK for the Bay on Thursday.
  18. I've never launched from Callala, but I would be inclined to give it a go. Then you have the option of launching at Currarong and heading out to the Sir Joseph Young Banks about 10km out from Culburra Beach. Alternatively, a run across the Bay takes you to Longnose Point and the Middle Ground. Inside the Bay there are, reportedly, very good spots for squid. Murrays Beach ramp is close to the Heads, but cuts out the option of launching from Currarong. However, you could stay at Sanctuary Point which opens up the option of fishing St Georges Basin.
  19. How big is your boat? You can launch from Murray's beach in the national park at the southern end. There is a fee for a 2 day pass. This gives easy access to the heads and out to sea, as well as to the inner areas. Some years ago I heard reports of break ins to cars but have never had any problems myself. There is a ramp on the creek near huskisson, but its a longish slow run, at 4 kts, to the bay thru sandfly infested shallows. There is also a ramp near the northern end at Callala bay. This is not far from Currarong so makes that an alternative if you want to go outside. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4
  20. Was Oaklands the caravan park a couple of km north of "Windang central"? I used to live at that park - then called the Beachcomber - for a couple of years until I was about 11. There were huge sand flats just north of the park in Cudgeree Bay and these were absolutely infested with squirt worms. We used them for bait for blackfish off the old bridge. It was wooden then with the planks running across the bridge. Made a racket when cars crossed. Later the planks were laid along the bridge which made crossing it much quieter.
  21. But haven't been very successful so far. Recently we've had a lot of windy days on the south coast and this has caused me to spent a few days at Tuross trying for whiting. The word is that they are biting on squirt worms up in the river, not the lake. I managed to pump up 3 or 4 and caught 2 just legal whiting. Heaps of yabbies/nippers around but the fish are ignoring them - something I've never experienced before. These 2 whiting reminded me how beautiful these fish taste - even better than flathead. So now the hunt is on for a decent patch of squirt worms in the Tuross system. As a kid at Windang I used to get heaps using a large tin can as a pump. we caught so many that we used to sell them to the tourists at the caravan park. I've made a pump from a length of 90mm plastic pipe and I've replace the washers in my Alvey pump after 40 years. While I've got the floor I'll also ask about catching poddy mullet. Has anyone tried using berley pellets or chook pellets in a fish trap? I know bread or bread crumbs work, but what about pellets? The flathead in Tuross are giving the poddies a hammering. Only small fish, but there must be some bigger ones mixed in. The flathead are taking yabbies, but poddies are the really good thing.
  22. The slime tend to be on the lower part of the ramp. So I would have to wait for the tide to come in. Or hope that a good samaritan with a genuine 4 wd happens along! Oh, and the fuel consumption averages about 6.5 l/100km on a 250 km return trip to the coast. And about 7.5 overall, including towing the boat.
  23. thanks, but the boat is in Batemans Bay!
  24. Here is an extract from the Clubmarine website WHAT THE MANUFACTURES SAY Most manufacturers of late-model marine engines approve the use of E10 in their products. BRP-Evinrude: Evinrude motors can tolerate up to 10 per cent alcohol in fuels, (which is the maximum currently sold in Australia) Honda: Honda engines are designed for good performance and efficient operation using petrol containing from 0 to 10 per cent ethanol Mercury: Mercury engines will withstand up to 10 per cent ethanol in gasoline Suzuki: Suzuki recommends the use of pure petrol, but can operate efficiently with 10 per cent ethanol Yamaha: All 2008 and later models are suitable for use with ethanol E10 blended fuel. Models prior to 2008 are not suitable for ethanol blended fuel.
