  1. Hi Guys,

Just wanting to know any current reports on the fishing in Jervis Bay.

In particular Point Perp and Middle Ground.

I will be down at JB this week and want to target kingies, snapper and flatties.

Also any advice on where to catch yakkas, slimies and squid would be great.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

i was down there last week and there was heeps or undersize flatties and some decent size flatties while drifting for them at middle ground

on the last day we got some big samon nead the southen headland but other than that not much and hearing everone else there wasnt much but flatties but we couldent get out side because it was a bit to windy

    hope this helps :1fishing1:

  2. i read a receant topic about which squid jig catches the most squid and people suggesteted the Yammashitta in pink in the size 1.8 and i looked at bcf and they dont sell them, can some one pm me where i can get them from

perferably in the campelltown area if not on a online store

  3. The Seal is the item that keeps out the Salt water and should not be overlooked.

With the Bearings, if in doubt replace them. Timken are a great brand (Orange Blister Pack), they also market Boat Trailer seals as well as other companies. These seals have a Stainless steel insert that you knock into the hub after you install the bearing for the seal to run against. Dont wast your time with the one piece seal that run against the rusty axle as they dont keep the water out.

A good rule is to check them by pulling them apart as its easier than on the side of a Highway.

  4. fisherboy,

a prawn net is just that the mesh is about 12 mm in size and is made of a fine material ie cotton.

Witches hats are a hoop type crab trap, I mentioned these in case someone wanted to use one in the Port Hacking.

Landing nets are now available in a few styles such as the enviro net, standard 50 mm mesh size and the new silicon/rubber type.

    Sizes mentioned are only approximate.

    Big-Pete :1fishing1:

    thanks pete for the info

i got a prawn net and a landing net like the environet

    thanks fisherboy :1fishing1:

  5. fisherboy,

the only type of net allowed to be used in the Port Hacking is a landing net. You are not allowed to use crab traps (witches hats) in the river.

So yes there are prawns in the Port but catching them is going to be a bit hard without a prawn net.

    Big Pete :1fishing1:

is a landing net a standard prawn net or is it a fish landing net

and what is a crab traps (witches hats) you were talking about

  6. ive always seen these in the shops but i thought they were teasers for marlin as they had no hooks

can some one clarify what fish will take the lure

is it a surface lure or an under water lure

last thing why does the hook have to be outside the skit because i thought it would have to be inside the skirt as the fish would strike the stirt not behind it

  7. Hi all, I`m generally a Kingfish chaser but my kids are starting to become interested in the fishin game,so I was wanting to take them fishing but I have no clue as to where to take them fishing for the more common bream or flathead in Sydney.Im based on land so it makes it harder...Has anyone got any hints as to where I could take a family in Sydney where its reasonably safe on land and in the Sydney area. Also the main part somewhere where I`ll catch some fish.Sizes dont matter as kids are happy to get bites.... Thanks all!!!! Steve.. :1fishing1:

    hey reef rebel

in the hacking you can see the whiting on the sand flat at high tide and pretty much any were you can catch baby snapper about 5-10 cm but they beat getting no fish at all

  10. 27.9.08

Yesterday we put the boat in at the Hole in the Wall ramp about 2:30.

Our first stop was at the container wall. There was more than 15 boats there so we thought that there has to be fish there. We were wrong, not one bit for about half an hour.

We ventured to La Parouse to try and pick up some flatties still nothing.

At about 6:00pm we decided to go get dinner so we trolled some lures around Bare Island and past the Container Wall. still nothing. :1badmood:

Arter dinner we driffted between capitan cooks brige and theTom Uglys Brige for nothing. :mad3:

We saw some people anconderd under the Tom Uglys bridge so we thought we might try it as we had caught nothing all day.

Afterr about 5 min we start to see talior jumping everywhere so i start to cast soft plastics at them for about 10mins. With no hits i try out a hard body and after about 3 casts i was fianlly on. first fish of the day. :yahoo:

It was nothing big only about 15cm but at least it was a fish.

For the next 10 mins i caught about 6 baby tailor.

Just as i was casting a lure , Dad was in the cabin looking for another lure when my Mum saw Dad's rod jump and caught it just before it went over the side and statrted to reel it in.

About 5mins later this jew reaches the surface. the jew fish went 52cm and 1.6 kg

    post-6415-1222581978_thumb.jpg

We caught another 5 talior then went to find a place nice and quite place to anchor for the night out of the wind.

28.9.08 The Day of the Social

We headed to registration about 6ishand we sign in and grab a snag on a roll and a coffee.

We drifted a couple of times around Dolls Point for nothing.

We decide to go see if there are any fish at watts reef only to lose a jig head on a snag. Other than that no fish.

we go back to the Container Wall despites the lack of fish there the day before. After about 30mins we see someone pulling up somthing with a bit of fight so we watch and see. when they fianlly get it to the surface we see that it was only a shovel nose shark. We keep fishing for about 1 hour and my mum get's a Port Jackson shark (no pic it bit through the line)

It was about 12:00pm and the bay was very choppy so we decided to call it a day and we went back to the Fishraider tent and said hi to everyone and then put the boat on the trailer

    cheers fisherboy :1fishing1:

  12. Went out yesterday morning from little manly into the harbour. I took some live poddy mullet as I usually like to target flathead at my local water way. Thought I would try squidding so I covered a fair bit of ground in the harbour till I found a spot where kelp meets headland and sand. This is my first go and after about half a dozen casts I felt a bit of a bump. I wondered could that have been a squid or was it weed. Threw into the same area again and worked jig like a soft plastic, then snagged. But hang on snags don't swim, then my light bream gear began to lose line and I thought a fish has grabbed the lure. Worked it to the boat and a large squid came on board. A couple of big ones were also following it. I stayed about another 20 minutes and managed a couple of smaller models which went out live but did not get touched. I prepared the large one for the table with salt, pepper and lime and it was a magnificent feed, much better than when I have bought it. I don't what type they were, but there were a few around and I dropped a few. If I had better technique I would have caught a bundle. I hope the photo attached.

    great catch on the squid

the squid you caught were calamari squid(hope i spelt it right)
