I got a call last night about this capture from a friend. NZ style king! Unreal. Received a picture sms this morning of it. News of captures like this really travel... Great fish mate. I've been down there fishing land based the past few weeks, but there is nothing being caught off the rocks but seals. Well done again, fish of a lifetime.

Don't normally post on this forum but can probably help with the ID of the unknown fish on the bonnie. My bet, based on the way you describe the fight, bait used, and location is on a seal. We've been down at the JB ledges every weekend lately and there are a fair few pesky seals around stealing livies. Had to literally share a ledge with one a few weeks back as he was up on it sunbaking! They run like mad but when you pull them in are heavy dead weights, till you realise it's a seal and cut them off. In fact the only thing that's hit baits for us in the past few weeks other than bonnies has been seals. Last king we got around there was over a month ago, and it hasn't been for lack of trying. Could have also been a shark though as they fight as you described.
