  1. G'day mushtaka, i use a similar method to customcasting's with a few variations and find them easy to catch in the salt. i use 4lb mono tied to a fine no 12 long shank hook, no sinker or float. For berley i use bread with enough saltwater added and mashed up to make it like runny porride.Every 3-5 mins i throw out about a spoonful of berley also dont throw any bread on the surface as it will attract ducks . For bait i use fresh sunblest bread.(sunblest just seems to work best). Now the most important bit, tear off a piece of bread about 1-2cm square without squashing it (dont bother using the crust),then gently fold it in half, again without squashing it. Then pinch a small section in the middle of the fold flat, pass your hook through this section. Doing this allows the bread to fluff up in the water without coming off the hook and the mullet dont shy away from it. After baiting up dunk the bread in the water a few times to aid in casting, just a gentle lob cast.Dending on how much water the bait has soaked up it will either float or slowly sink.I perfer it to sink because i get more takes especially when the day is bright, a few more dunks gets it to sink. Also dont let the bait sink more than 3ft or you will catch bream. Leave some slack in your line and bail arm open to allow the bait to move around naturally.Keep an eye on the line and when it starts to take off flick the bail arm over and lift the rod to set the hook.Do not strike or you will just pull the bait out of their mouth. cheers ccfisher p.s keep the bread in its bag or it will dry out and not work as good!
  2. Bass dont breed in dams there stocked. Bass need to be able to get to brackish water to their thing eg rivers that lead to the sea. cheers Steve
  3. My stepson and i cracked our jew on sp cherries recently with Andrew getting his on a freezing cold morning at the end of last month while on a snapper session on the inshore reefs out of Broken Bay, unfortunatley no snaps but we were both stoked with his 1st lure caught jew. I got mine friday avro in Brisbane Waters while fishing for flatties. A good day with 5 flatties caught, biggest going 50cm, kept two for a feed. A 30cm bream which launched itself in the air (impressive a bream pretending to be a marlin) was released and then my 1st lure caught jew which really topped off the afternoon for me anyway, as Andrew who has been out fishing me lately had a shocker with only one flattie.Though he was just as stoked as me with my sp jew. cheers Steve
  4. I think he means Woy Woy, road and rail bridge jew? Foxy what time were you fishing day or night? Cheers!
  5. Yes locodave, witches hats are a type of crab trap. They and all crab traps are banned in Brisbane waters. People using them risk big fines and maybe confiscation of their gear including boat and car. Also someone may find their trap and cut it up
  6. Hi everyone, thanks for the welcoming replies. Doh,I forgot to say how big the flattie went she was 80cm & was caught around the gosford end of brissy water. Will be out there next week trying to better the missus though me thinks it may take a while, but it'll be fun trying. cheers
  7. Hello Raiders, bit of a late report, just worked out how to post pictures. Went for a drift for some flatties last Saturday with the . Weather wasn't too good, showers and 15-20 knots south easterly. Nearly didn't go after fishing Thursday and Friday's beautiful days for bugger all but you don't have to twist my wife's arm too far. Found a spot out of the wind and we both rigged up Black and gold squidgey, 80mm fish on 3/8 oz jigs. First drift produced a 45cm flattie for the , second drift produced nothing, but halfway down the 3rd drift when the was just finishing her retrieve I saw this cracker flathead come up and wolf down her lure. After a few nail biting runs and a few wtf and holyshits from me, we managed to net the big girl. A couple of pics and she was released. The PB, beating her previous mark by 10cm, and beating mine by 5cm .Caught a few more 40 to 50cm ones before it started pissing down and we headed back home. cheers
