  1. In regards to 2 stroke outboards at the end of operation...Is it best to:

    A) Remove the fuel line whilst the motor is still running so all fuel in the motor gets used up or...

    B) Remove feul line and leave any fuel in the motor right where it is. ???

    which is right? or wrong??

    Thanks.

Hi rockfisherman, I always remove the fuel line after flushing the motor and allow it to burn any fuel left in the carbies. After the motor dies, try restarting it with the choke on to use any remaining fuel. By doing this it always seems to start easier as there isn't stale fuel in the line next time you go boating. hope this helps

  2. Stanfo,

do you have a tilt limit switch on your motor?

I recently had a similar problem where my motor would trim down but not up.

thanks to Craig at Huett marine ( who diagnosed the problem over the phone ) the issue was identified as a faulty tilt limit switch.

Craig fixed the problem by bridging out the limit switch (as I do not need it on my boat), in about 5 minutes. Big thanks to Craig, looking after us as usual!.

You may have a different issue - but it might be worth looking at.

thanks for the replies raiders, the motor doesn't have a seperate trim switch on the motor so i think it must be the fuses/relays. i hope its not something more terminal

  3. Hi Raiders, tried to go fishing on the weekend but the trim and tilt on the motor carked it, just wouldn't respond. We put the boat back on the trailer and took the motor cover off and and found a black box between the two top cylinders (the motor is an evinrude 90 v4 from about 1986)inside that were box like fuses that clicked when we tried the trim button. Does this clicking meant there shot, if so will the local boat store have replacements and how much would they cost. if this isnt the problem any idea what else it could be?

    thanks in advance

  4. I was fishing with a mate down in the local river, the current was folwing pretty quickly, so the desicion made was to dump the sand anchor, this worked really well the boat stayed in place. the spot yielded no fish so we decided to move. so with the anchor rope tied to the rollock we set off. only got about three metres before our progress was haulted by an almighty jerk, thats right, id left the anchor out. DO'H. We were damn lucky, my boat is an old 6 foot fibreglass tender that is a little fragile at the best off times, i still wonder how the side was not ripped completely off.

the moral of the story is always check to see if the anchor is in and dont be a fool like me :biggrin2:

  5. post-6668-1251627310_thumb.jpgHi raiders

Sorry this post was hard to answer, we've got the boat and Im now are able to post a pic.

We have got at a"zephyr" boat, and it seemed ok but I don't rcognise the name let alone their history or the build quality. So I was wondering if any raiders knew anything about them. The only clues I have is there was a South Australian flag on the sticker as part of the name sticker, and it looked similar to an Alison boat, high windscreen and a non raised cuddy cabin. The owner didn't know its history as a brand either.

    Any information welcomed

    cheers

    EDIT:

sorry guys I made it hard for you but Im hoping that by posting a pic, that may shead some light on what ive been babbling about. Sorry hoodlum92, I have searched the net and but have not yet found anything like it.

  6. Thanks for the help guys, I'll try to get some livies and see how that goes. The snag snorkelling sounds like a great idea but the water will have to warm up a bit because im a wuss.

    thanks again

  7. Hi raiders, I have caught the mangrove jack bug. However dipite reading all the fishing literature surrouding them and I was wondering if you guys could please clear up a few areas surrounding the elusive jack. I fish a local river 10 mins south of Coffs Harbour and intend to fish the hours either side of sunset, is this an effective statergy or am I waisting my time, mainly due to it being August and still relitvely cold. My other query is how do I pick a likely snag for jacks, are there any things that I should be looking for?

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

  8. Hi raiders, does any one know if there are any ways of testing for a soft floor and transom in a second hand boat. The reason I ask is that we are looking for a second hand glass boat and dont want to get stuck with a lemon that will cost the earth to get in working order.

    Cheers

  9. Thanks for the replies Raiders the the rising sea levels joke was probably misplaced, so to recap the moon was probably closer to, and on the other side of the Earth resulting in a extream low tide. Did any other raiders notice this unusual phenomenon?

  10. If a king tide is a big high tide than what is an extream low one? The reason I ask is that on a visit to my local river this afternoon the tide was at least 1-1.5 m lower than it usually is. Not sure how it is in other places but this was freaky, my faverourite flatty spinning spots were all on dry land, I thought sea levels were rising. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated

  11. Hi Katari

Unfortunatly i can't give you an accurite figue for the engine but PM huey, im sure he will be able to give you a quote and might do you a deal on an E-Tec at raider rates.

    Good luck

  12. Hi raiders just wondering if anyone has fished Pine or Bonville creek near Sawtell south of Coffs Harbour. Haven't fished there much and don't know of any good spots. All advice appreciated.

    Cheers Lachlan

    P.S. I'll be fishing from a boat

  13. I recently looked at a criuse craft rougue, hull seemed ok but I dont know much about them, it had a fifty johno on the back. Are they any good offshore, or just for the rivers. the sign said that the engine needs a new gearbox any idea on how much that would cost?

    thanks in advance

  14. Hi raiders, thinking about upgrading our boat but not sure what is avaliable. Would like something to head off shore on a calm day in. Aluminium would be preferable(due to weight limits) bugets tight (under ten grand) so second hand is in on the cards. What is something like a savage lancer/ osprey worth Fishing will take priority and any help would be appreciated.

  15. Hi all

I want to start chasing mangrove jack but am unsure on what leader I should use. Do I use nylon, wire or both and how long does the leader have to be?

    thanks in advance

    Lachlan

  16. thanks for all the advice raiders, the guy i got it off used to drag it down through his padock to get to the creek (behind a car)so their maybe unforseen damage but if all goes well then i should on the water soon

  17. Hi Raiders

got a little glass boat on saturday. (not the flashest thing ever but you have tostart somewhere) Most of the hull is solid but a few cracks and weak points one seat in paticular, I was intending to just patch it up but have no experience with fibreglass. do I just put some fibre matting over the cracks then lather in the liqid coating? any help would be appreciated. the other queston i have is to do with the transom, I plan on putting a 4hp moter on the back but should I reinforce it first?
