  1. Because of my early morning starts, i always run the motor for a good 20 minutes the night before i take her out. I also drive on and off my trailer however, so put her in the water when i get there, then i start her up, the missus unclips the front and i reverse off.

I feel if you use your boat weekly you should have minimal problems sarting her up, and if you dont, at least give her a kick over weekly or fortnightly to run the old fuel through.

  2. g'day raiders,

does anybody know if there are any dolphin fish still holding around the broken bay FAD and are they in good numbers.

    cheers.

    luke.

Not sure, but i would love to know too..

    cheers.

  3. where abouts do you get squid :( i cannot find squid in sydney for shit :( i usually go jeffery st wharf but only end up with like 2-3 small ones

If you are getting 2 or 3 small ones, then your in a good spot...

i dont know the area, but i would try walking around 20 meters either side of the wharf and see spots around there...

if they are there, then it means they have the right habitat to live there, so you will find more..

problem with squid is that they move around alot, so you may want to try 3 spots or 4 spots in the same vacinity, and just loop through them..

Spot 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, and back to 1 and do it all again.

I would spend around 15 - 20 mins at each spot (if you are catching nothing) and stay for 15 mins after the bite stops etc.

hope this helps increase your squid catch..

  4. thanks heaps mike..

back to the tackle shop i go.haha :1prop:

Yeah mate, go the little pink and purple skirts... like the bullet head style... work a treat...

i also find that on the troll, if someone has a rod with soft plastics, and cast out the side of the boat they go them too.. so softs are always good..

  5. I went out sunday, missed out on saturday... the weather was find outside off palm beach, and towards east and west reef... i was out at 6am, and in by midday though, looked very choppy after lunch.. but was like a lake while i was there..

  6. i have been fishing plastics for a while and was very succesfull on mono but since switching to braid i havent caught even half as many fish

could i tbe because i havent been using a leader

and if i was to use a leader would burkley vanish go well with berkley fireline

    Hey mate,

Definateley. You dont want to fish straight braid.

I would tie on a leader of around 60cm. Vanish is good stuff, and as light as you can.

The problem is, braid is thin, but its not like a mono line, which will vanish, so the fish will see it.. Kind of like fishing with too heavy a line.

If the fish see it, they get spooked..

    hope it helps.

  7. Hi Raiders, after wondering which was more appropriate, the 27meg or VHF, I bought a GME GX300 Marine Radio as I only ever go close off shore or enclosed waters. I reckon a few raiders might interested in the broad view, so here is the question.

    Marine Radios

    27meg, VHF, or both

    Rgds

    Dhutchy

Its not just about catching fish, but it helps

    Hey Mate,

I believe 27meg is fine for close and inshore. but by law you need a VHF when going 2 miles out (which isn't far at all)

    I have just the VHF.

have a mate with both, he likes to keep on 27meg to hear whats on the chew and VHF for coastguard updates.
