  1. Hi guys...another question if I may..(crikey I'm getting my dollars worth of knowledge out of you lot Was just skimming through my Mercury manual and it says always trim the motor right down when the boats on the trailer. The guy who sold me the boat , and even the guy on my boat license course said the opposite. So assuming no ground clearance probs what do you lot do?? Thanks as ever.
  2. Hey guys thanks all so much for the replies. `So flipped the tongue over and it's loads better. It does just fowl the bottom of the tailgate but that parts only plastic so pretty flexible. Bit of tape to protect the paint should be fine. Just got it off the drive to check nothing hits the floor and it seems all good. Was concentrating so hard not to hit anything as I reversed it back up the drive that I failed to notice the smoke coming out of the clutch...oops....need to stop messing about and just drive it on. Anyway thanks again for all your help..no doubt I'll be asking for more later.

    Davidson Ramp

Taking the boat out for its maiden voyage tomorrow so I'd advise anyone to stay clear of the ramp tomorrow morning. Unless you want to watch a very nervous man make a pigs ear of launching and retrieving a boat. My question is ..is the tide ever so low as to make it impossible to use the ramp.? I'm assuming not but thought i'd check first. I'm more used to using a boat in Norfolk (UK) where the tide goes out about 3 miles !
  4. Yeah I reckon that might be the solution..as long as I can get the bloody thing off the driveway withtout the trailer os towbar hooking up on the transition between drive and road. Bloody boats..who thought that;d be a good idea..???
  5. Yeah I agree seems weird for a 4WD...altho obviously it's a bit of a hairdressers 4x4. I know I can turn the tongue up the other way but to be honest thats only going to make a really small difference. BTW it's a 6 inch wheel.
  6. Hi Guys , Just got a towbar fitted to my RAV and when I got home and went to hook the trailer up I found the towball is so low I cant actually wind the jockey wheel up far enough to get the ball and socket to engage. The only way was for me to lift the front of the trailer by hand and then get the wifey to swing the jockey wheel out of the way. Once on, the bottom of the trailer at the front seems very low. Anyone else had this problem and if so any remedy. The ball can't go any higher or the tailgate won't open. Thanks guys
  7. So guys did the ABC course today and got my license 1st go...actually scored 100% on the test so well happy with that .The afternoon spent on Pittwater was very helpfull and made a lot of the theory make sense. Good fun dodging the sail boats and a bit of an eye opener as to the number of people out there completely ignoring all the rules. Don't want to preach, as obviously i'm a total newbie, but is this normal.??? Boat coming next week hopefully so off to buy all the bits ...and a towbar.!! Thanks for all your help. Any good sources for 2nd hand lifejackets.....seems I've suddenly got loads of mates who want to come out to play.!!!
  8. Thanks guys... Delta i think I'm looking at about 900kg all up with full fuel and water tanks so should be no problems....especially as i'll never be able to afford to fill the boat right up anyway. !!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Looks like we just bought a boat so now need to fill it with all sorts of expensive things. Wheres the best place to buy all the bits and pieces like anchors etc. I'm specifically in a hurry to get some lifejackets for the kids. Cheers guys. Nige
  10. Was just looking at likely places to pull the boat up for a picnic and found this.....spooky.!!
  11. Wow what a friendly bunch you lot are. Russ I'd be happy to take you up on the offer at some point. I'll generally be launching from under Roseville bridge so I think not too far from you. When I finally get the boat on the water I'll give you a shout. Of course the one I was after was sold at the weekend before I could get my hands on it. cheers mate Nige
  12. Hi guys me again. Been offered one of these as part of a package. Are they good quality and well designed as compared to say a Dunbier trailer.?? Cheers .
  13. Hey Mick thanks for the comprehensive reply. Reckon I'll do a full day course to get my license , then just get the missus to take the test to get hers.
  14. Delta any idea how much it weighs with the trailer.??
  15. So I'll settle for two right now..... 1) Where's the best place for skiing around Sydney...I'm im French's Forest. 2) Anyone tow using a RAV4 and how s it. oh ok one more then...really fancy taking the boat and the kids up the hawksbury and camping overnight...onshore as opposed to on the boat..any recommendations. Thanks guys. I believe I may be asking a few more pretty soon.
