  1. Hi Frankp The Samon was caught in the bay , found them in about 2 feet of water amongst a 30 meter by 30 meter boil on the surface.
  2. Hi Fellow Raiders, Went for a fish on 5/5/07, last Saturday with my wife and son and had some fun, picked up 16 legal bream, 2 trevally, 2 flat and managed to find a nice school of Samon. Here's some picks. here are a couple more
  3. Flattieman, i know you love to target flatties so stay tuned, i'll be testing them on the Bream and Flattie population. DAN Hey fellow fishos, When I introduce Tony to the Zoom Tiny Flukes specially the Ark Shiner, Tony and myself where amazed at the bite and hook up rate we were experiencing in the upper Georges, specially when he was using the watermelon pearl Bass minnow and I was using the Ark Shiner and Baby Bass flukes, the flukes out fished the bass minnows 3 to 1 on the bream 2 to 1 on the flatties , in the few hours we were out there I only used 7 Flukes to Tony's packet and half of Bass Minnows , I was averaging 4 to 6 fish for each fluke used. A much cheaper alternative to the Bass minnows for those fishos with families that would like to give soft plastics a go. Now we are testing the 3 inch Brush Hogs with some mixed results but a must for the tackle box seeing that I'm a soft plastics junky. Plus a cheaper alternative is always welcomed. Stafford
  4. Hey Matt, Just spoke with Tony from Fishfinder and apparently VIVA make a nice starting out fly rod and Tony would probably be able to help you out with a reel, Fishfinder is a sponsor of this great Fishraider web site and if you click on his banner it will take you to Tony's contact info. 5. Hi Billfisher, The only time you would really need to double your braid is if the quality of you leader is poor, a lot of you wouldn't know this but fluorocarbon has a shelf life, when you buy it burn it and it should go black from memory if it doesn't then the shelf life has expired, just be careful, also for the sake of a couple of extra dollars buy quality, I use a 4lb leader most of the time while fishing moored boats and have never had a problem. I have never had my braid cut my leader either, also the best way to fish racks is to use a 2500 reel with 8lb braid as the 8lb diameter aids in a stronger knot when using 8-10lb leaders. In my experiences. Jason
  6. Next time you see this happen try using a rebel popper clear in colour and with a redish bluish head and a white feather on the rear treble, when you cast make sure you have your boat about 4 to 5 meters away and cast along side of the moored boat, your cast has to land right at the edge where the water line is and when you retrieve your popper make it hit the hull once or twice and then get ready, this is the only way I've been able to tempt bream while they feed this way and it has worked for me 3 times already you must use 4lb leader as well, you mainly see this when the tide is near out or just on it's way back in. Hope this helps for next time, let me know how you go.............. Jason
  7. Hey coastie, I've found that the slower the better with your retrieve, short soft one hopes usually works best and a lot of pause inbetween as well, you can also use the large Squidgy Wrigglers (100mm) trim the head off and the top part so that the profile is more like a worm, these work much better in faster current and structure a little bit more action with your retrieve but not much more, like an extra hope or to between pauses, I also find that appling Stimulate gel scent aid's to your hook up rate too with the wrigglers not the gulp. With the Gulp worms use cammo in dirty water and natural in clear water and only those 2 colours, wrigglers use bloodworm in the clearer water and flash prawn in the dirtier water red rum is another good color but in the dirty water. Hope this helps Jason.
  8. Sorry no Photo's guys, just after I measured him he wriggled over the side, was going to release it any way, biggest flatty I ever caught with plastics was a 120cms at the end of 3rd runway, the squires were between 15cm to 32cm fork length, boy they give you a good bit of stick too.
  9. G'Day Raiders, Took my son and Misses out Yesterday for a bit of fun, on the water by 6:50am, first stop was the Eastern side of the break wall, was there for about 20mins with no luck. Went over and fished the Tug boats moored on the eastern side of the Oil loaders Wharf for around 30 Squire's and one 87cm flathead, squire caught between the 3 of us and the Flathead fell to a number 4 bloodworm squidgy wriggler as did the 12 squires I landed. Got a bit windy and then went over to the 3rd run-way for only a couple of squires. Sped off over to the groins at kernell and came across plenty of trevally schooling up, between the 3 of us we landed 12 trevally and lost about 8 around the boat, biggest went 47.5cms to the fork and caught by yours truly, it went quiet for about 35mins and then we came across a school of bream and some nice bream to with my wife landing the biggest one out of the 7 that were caught going 34.5cms to the fork and all fish fell to 3" Berkley Bass minnows in pumpkin seed, none of the bream where under 30cms It was now 12:30 and the wind got stronger , we decided to go over to the Cooks River for an hour before going home, out of the wind and my wife and son decided to have a snooooozzzzzzzeeeeee fish to myself, didn't muck around and went straight up to this wall I found a week ago to see if they were still there, first cast 28cm bream, second cast 26cm bream, 5mins later and about my 12th cast and a 32cm bream, 13th cast another 26cm bream, then on my 14th cast got completely blown away by either a big bream or flathead in 3 feet of water zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz bang, wife heard it and said you should have caught that, go back to sleep I said new leader and was into it again with another 3 under size bream landed and a 33cm to the fork landed, dam I said let's go honey I'll let you have the biggest bream for the day and didn't she rub it in too. On our way back to Botany boat ramp we stopped at the 3rd runway to talk to my wifes boys and watched them pull in 3 25kg Port Jacksons, they said they had already caught 2 and the boat over to the left of them hand landed 7 but that was all that was there. Any way time to go and do some work enjoy. Jason.
  10. Hey Iceman, Caught the bream on 1/16 TT #2 gigheads and used Squidgy Flick Baits in Slick Green and Evil Minnow colours, also used Squidgies 100mm wriggles in Flash Prawn and Blood worm colours cut down as well as a cut down Gulp Camo Worms. Jason
  11. G'Day Fishraiders, Fathers Day was spent with my son and I fishing Botany Bay and the Cooks River in that or mighty NWer, still we cleaned up. We started off fishing the moored boats out side of Sylvania Waters while there was no wind we had our first cast about 6:45am, my son Wayde was the first to land a fish which was a flathead and on his second cast too, while Wayde was fishing 1/16 TT #2's I was fishing Squidgy Resin Heads with Slick green and Evil minnow flick baits and landed 4 bream by 8:20am all ranging between 31cms to 34cms to the fork with my son picking up a little 24cm to the fork specimen while fishing the bottom. At about 8:20am the wind started raging, we then headed over to Kurnell and fished about 80 meters out from the tips of the groins, I landed another 10 bream within an hour and 15mins all averaging from 28cms fork length to 35cms fork length. Wayde started to get a bit worried and asked if we could go into the cooks for some cover so we went. Caught the bream on 1/16 TT #2 gigheads and used Squidgy Flick Baits in Slick Green and Evil Minnow colours, also used Squidgies 100mm wriggles in Flash Prawn and Blood worm colours cut down as well as a cut down Gulp Camo Worms. Started from the first lot of boats as you go under the bridge and landed a pigeon pair of 30cm to the fork bream with my son landing a Trevally and flathead, electric-ed all the way up to the train bridge and back and landed another 11 bream all between 28 and 36cms to the fork while Wayde managed a couple of under sized bream, flathead and tailor, at about 2:40pm it rained down on us with Wayde wanting to go home, after about 15mins the clouds scattered and the sun shine on through, we were off the water by 4:30pm. In the Cooks the #2 and #3 Squidgy Wrigglers in Flash Prawn along with the Gulp Camo Worm done most of the damage along the rock walls but the bridges fired when using the Green Pumpkin seed Shimano Cobie Chans allowing me to boats 6 out of the 11 bream caught For such a wind and rainy day my son and I had an absolute ball. Had just downloaded this photo from my phone, forgot the digital camera sorry if the photo doesn't view well but these were the 10 caught from Kurnell. Jason.
