How did you manage to get so many??
Whenever Ive been out and the jackets are about they just bite through the line midwater - not even anywhere near the hooks, swivel or sinker
I just try to move away because they cost me too much line and tackle
what are your tips to catching the buggers instead?

It was good to hear High Tide again this morning

"That's an old boot ... a wirrah cod. they grow up to 50cm's and taste like an old boot"
Thats it alright - eastern wirrah, "old boot"
caught heaps, some big, but never tried one

I went to a talk the Yamashita reps gave about squidding.
Their " range hunter" series sounded impressive, they have slow sinking ones (blue eyes on jig 10 - 12 seconds to sink 1 mtr), fast sinking ones and an in between one (Basic - black eyes on jig 3 secs to sink 1 mtr).
Different sizes (1.8 and 2.2) and colours
I got a slow one to try in the weed beds that are only 2 or so metres deep
Havent been out yet to try it

I was at Port Stephens a couple of weeks ago and the maritime boat was going around, pulling alongside and handing them out on the water so no problem, just stuck it on then and there
-
Well done
Its good music to listen to when the line is peeling off the reel
-
Still sounds like a good day out on the water
the dolphins are great value to watch swimming around
pity the fish werent very cooperative though
good luck for evans head

Hey Ray I reckon there would be a few fish with headaches around those rock pools when the conditions settle
-
The show was a good night out
It was even better seeing Swordie and Mrs Swordie there
If fellow raiders are around it is surely going to be a good time anywhere

Best of luck for tomorrow
The fish will be in trouble when you get back into it with a better back

"any day catching fish is better than no fish....."
Got to agree with that
even being out on the water and fishless beats not being out
still sounded like a good day
-
Well done !!!
Wont be long and he will be catching fish bigger than you catch - that will be a great day

Went to Bobbin Head for lunch and a walk Sunday but after lunch the kids wanted to go fishing.
I explained that I had not brought their rods or mine so we could not fish.
They have been watching Malcolm Douglas and the 6 year old explained to me that all they needed was bait and they would be right, because they would use sticks they had picked up in the car park.
After seeing them dangling a chip on the end of there sticks in the water hoping for a bite I found some old fishing line and a few hooks in the boot of the car. No sinkers or anything fancy.
So i got them a few frozen prawns from the kiosk and let have a go with their stick rods.
To my surprise ( and the others that were fishing there) the kids caught heaps!!!
The light stick rod got a few little bream, 10 cm tailors and a couple of ??bat fish - see photo
The heavy duty stick also caught a few bream and tailor 9 10cm or so) but then it was almost ripped out of the 5 year olds hand by a 20 cm trevally
The photo was just as it was released - it wriggled and she tossed it before I could get the photo, but the heavy duty stick is visible near her foot.
I dont think I will get permission to by that new rod I was looking at any time soon after the kids show, maybe I might borrow a stick instead.

Hey Slinky thats cruel
Im not going to Coffs but I want to now
Hey Ray I watched an episode of fishing trip (i think) that I had taped last week
they fished Coffs and it looked pretty awesome
seeing Slinky's post confirms that it would be a great place to go for a fish
good luck

Sounds wet but still fun
Not wrong about fishing being better than work rain hail or shine
-
Certainly is an ugly looking thing
-
Thanks Bob
I showed my wife your pics to put my gear in perspective
It might be OK for me to get another rod and reel that I had been thinking about for months
Well done Bob
