  1. This is my first report so here goes.. Myself and four guys from work have been planning a trip up to SWR for some time now and when the day finally arrived we were all like kids at Christmas We arrived at the launch bright and early as someone was even more excitedthan the rest of us(Darrell) as he set the friggin alarm for 4 am and the ramp was only 5 mins drive, well what the **** The skipper Brian of Gunrunner asked us what we would like to catch, with a unanimous decision made we headed of in search of snapper and pearl perch At the first mark we all dropped the baits as quick as we possibly could ( seeing as there was a schooner on the first fish caught), as soon as the baits hit the bottom in 82meters the fish were more eager than us, and Colin shouts I'm on, soon the other guys are shouting the same and its a race for that schooner, Ive never seen madmen reeling in so fast, now heres the controversy as Mr "Bo-tangles" himself (Colin) gets tangled up with "Big Phil" and theres a debate as to who 's line the fish is hooked on, after a hefty conflab' its decided that Bo-tangles gets the nod We headed to more and more patches of reef and hit fish on every mark so hats off to Brian for putting us onto the fish, The next bet was on who had the biggest fish and with me and Phil tying for the lead with one fish left on our limit Darrell hooks what seems like a monster ha ha well its by far the biggest by at least 1.5 kilo so his drinking is also payed for, the best bit was getting a look at Phil's face when Darrell land his fish now he's not only lost the first bet but also the second on the last fish of the day.... unlucky mate So it only remains to say that i had the perfect day on the water, top blokes, top skipper and top weather All in all the best day Ive ever had on the water and the catch is ther for all to see, Can't wait to do it all again Steve
  2. Hi fellow fisho's I'm off to fish lake Wakatipu in Queenstown next week and would like to know where some of the hotspots are around this area, any info would be great for planning my trip cheers and tight lines Steve
  3. Hi John If its Salmon your after then you need to head to Wamberal beach, i fished it on Sunday had 12 lost about 6, Monday had 6 lost about 4 Tuesday had 2 but missed heaps, it seems that the flatter the wave the further out the fish have been as on sunday( big waves) there were massive shoals in the breakers on the reef, if you find the gutters then there will be fish there, most of the people i have been fishing with have been hitting them as well, we have been fishing anything from 2 hours to high tide then an hour or two after 2 weeks ago i watched 5 blokes hammer blackfish at the Entrance but like i said that was the other week, Tight lines John Steve

  10. Would love to have a social at Lyall Having come from a flyfishing background, of fishing for trout almost every weekend to not having much opportunity in Central coast this wouls be a welcome chance to get my rods and gear out, A definate thumbs up from me Steve
  11. Great effort swordfisherman Any tips on where you fished on Budgewoi beach as im thinking of giving it a hit over the next few days steve
  12. Thanks Poacher for the tips on Budgy and especially on the gang rig with the swivels, quite a nice little trick that, keep the tips coming, all this gets me more confident on catching rather that "cast and hoping" might give Budgy a go tomorrow if not the definately at the weekend, cheers steve
  13. Gave wamby a go on Saturday and hit a tailor about 5.45(last light) and again last night, just north of the lagoon got a few bites and landed a flatty of 41cm, but missed a lot of them as i forgot my pliers so couldn't rig up the gangs properly tried the bream rig and got nothing so switched back to gangs and pillies and hit the flatty, The hits dried up totally once it was fully dark I tried Budgy last year but didnt really know what to do and look for so wasn't that successful so maybe i'll plan for a session this weekend and see what its like, any suggestions on where abouts on budgy beach fishes the best, when you say the rocks at terrigal do you mean the rocks by the boat ramp or the ones by the old swimming pool, have you been out lately and had any success? How has Budgy been fishing? Cheers mate Steve Hi Codfisho Did you manage to hit Budgy beach and how did you get on? Steve
  14. Hi Daniel trout will definately take a lure or fly that causes a "wake", i come from the uk and have been a fly fisherman for many years and we used to use a fly called a "muddler" this consisted of a big bulbous head made from clipped deer hair that floats right on the surface and when stripped back created the wake i mentioned earlier if trout are on the surface they will hammer this type of lure/fly, fantastic visual fishing you just have to vary the retrieve to see how hungry/ lazy the trout are on any particular day, anything from 6 inch pulls to 1 meter hope this helps tight lines steve
  15. Hi Davy a surfer told me yesterday that there was a huge shool of slamon on the southern end of Forresters beach, i had a go but didnt get any hits , so i might have another crack later today good luck mate steve
  16. Thanks for the good info Poacher, i had a go this afternoon, tried all the way up to Forresters but no jot then fished 50mts north of the lagoon, had 3 bites in 3 casts and finally hooked a tailor before i had to pack up,the waves were a bit high and he took right in the wash and when i gutted him at home he was full to the gills with 2 inch fry, looks like everyone else had read your post as there were about 10 other fisho's around the markers you have mentioned, ive been up here 2 years and its only now that i am finding out where and how to fish these beaches which is why i haven't had much luck in the past, so thanks to Fishraider and also to you mate ( if you have any tips on fishing for Bream and set ups etc then i would love to know what they are its much better to learn from tried and tested methods than magazine articles ) tight lines Steve
  17. Thanks Poacher might give it a go this arvo as i only live in Terrigal, i've had a small flatty from there before but nothing else, where abouts on the beach near the lagoon or back towards the old surf club? Thanks Alasdair, I've never fished around Ettalong and Umina but i know a few blokes from work that do and they said they often get good flatties Will have to get out there and give it a go tight lines mate bunney10
  18. Hi Joel Ive heard that eating ginger helpsand also the trick is to keep your stomach full, i know this sounds daft as you expect it to all go over the side but it works for me, also if possible try to lie down when you feel the sickest hope this helps bunney10
