  1. Hi there, definitely the way to catch, a downrigger with live squid trolling through bait fish at the same depth. Only needs to be out about 10m out and at walking pace (just clicked into gear) Hope that helps, John
  2. Hi Tom, I think its just early for Kings to be inside as yet. They will often come and go this time of year. Cheers John
  3. Hi guys, Went looking for kings yesterday and decided to do that in the harbour. Took off early and began looking for squid. Found it hard with only 2 caught in 2.5 hours. Decided that we needed to fill the live bait tank with yakkas as well. Too easy, had 10 in 5 min. It was time to go searching for kings. Put out our first squid and trolled for an hour until the rod buckled and bait was lost. Put the second squid on and tried a favorite spot and was hit within 10 min. This time landing a king at 85 cm.? We thought this was it, this is where we will catch more. ?The tank full of yakkas and looked promising. After trolling with yakkas for more than 2 hours and no hits we decided to call it a day. It's a pitty we didn't have more squid. Yakkas were sent back on there way.?
  4. We got them around Yarra Bay. Just look for kelp and keep drifting across all areas until you find them. Plenty of time wasting but great when you find them. Used 30lb braid with 50lb mono trace
  5. Hi raiders, Decided to take a day off today as it was such an ugly morning. Things got a lot better as we hit the water. The rain came down but the bay was calm and just the way I like it, EMPTY. It had a good feel about it as we headed off to to get some squid. We picked up 5 in an hour and thought we would beat the mad rush of boats and start downrigging. What boats, there was no one but us. There was plenty of action on the sounder and within 5 minutes, bang bang zzzzzzzzzzzzz, we was on. I struggled for a while and as it glided to the top I couldn't believe how big it was. One look at us and it had the same feeling and down it went. I got it to the boat with help from my mate Ace. It hit the deck and slaped us around. What a fish! We caught six others but only kept three of those. There were heaps of under sized ones ready for summer. 105cm 8.3kg
