Hi all, I will be staying in a holiday house at Bonnells Bay Lake Macquarie in February 2009. The house has its own jetty 7 a dingy-no motor- Is there a chance of me catching a fish off the jetty or within safe rowing distance of the shore. Regards mike
  2. HI, THANKS FOR THE DAY.. To all the organisers, teachers & members,,,It was great to feel part of a club as soon as we introduced ourselves. Stewy aren`t you a hoot ! Your joy of life is rearly seen. Our teaher, "OUTDOOR DAN" spoke with great knowledge & obvious passion for all fishing styles. A special thank to him, and all the other members. I might even cast in the SP`s donated by GOFISH tomorrow morning, land based at Botany Bay. Great Event, When do we do it again ! Regards & Thanks MICREN

  5. Thanks Dicko, I will certanly get some pumpkinseed Gulp . I am going to get some Braid line for my 2 reels [a 1000 & a 1500 size eggbeaters]. I have not used braid line before. Should I tie the jig head direct to the braid or use a trace & swivel. I have only caught 1 small taylor on soft plastics but that is only in 2x 5 hour sessions ,I am brand new to plastics fishing! Would something that looks like a Prawn or a Worm ,also be options for the Leases? I have read on the Web it is very important to feed the SP onto the jig head very straight, mine do not. Is there a special way to achieve this? Again, any advise would be greatly appreciated! Regards & Good Fishing Mike
  6. Hi , My Name is Mike, I am somthing of a beginner fisherman & have been invited to Wagonga Inlet, Narooma to go fishing with my mate, who has retired down there 1 year ago. We will fish only the inlet in a tinny with a 20 HP motor ,mostly at the Oyster leases South West of the bridge. His favoured bait is Fresh Mullet strips. I would like to have a go with soft plastics. I have had limited success with plastics but mainly the tails being bitten off, with no fish staying on. I would appreciate any advise that could be given, to have the best rigs & lures TO CATCH just ONE big Bream or Flathead. Regards Mike
  7. Hi Rick, Thanks for your reply, "WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS READ THE INSTRUCTIONS' I have looked in the box & there is an instruction sheet stating the best knot is the Polamar knot {single over head] for their braid ??? As you suggested i have looked at the berkley braid knot, I will practise it on normal line rather than waste my new braid. Would it be a realistic test if I secured these knots to a smooth handle of a bucket , then filled it with increasing litres/kilos of water to test knot slip and strenght till total weight exceeds line strenght, then examine it the knot or,,, the line failed first. I will not be going fishing up to Lake Macquarie for 4 weeks , and only off a jetty at the back of a holiday house...my beat catch is a 38cm Bream in 5 years of hoilday time Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks Micren
  8. I have never used braid line before, and have been given 300 yds of Berklry 6 lb. I am a new fisherman & only use the half blood knot but beleive it is not suitable for braid. I have seen on the web a double polamr knot but when I practise it i end up with the loop back through the hook not closing.I am lubricating the knot before it is tightened Could you tell me what i am doing wrong...or...suggest another easy knot for braid. Many Thanks Micren
  9. Hi , I am a new fisherman & have a 7 ft carbon fiber shakespear rod with an Abu garcia Cardinal reel. I fish off a jetty at the rear of a house on Lake Macquarie I have been given a gift of 2 x 300 yds of Berkley Fireline braid [1# 6lb crystal .. 2# 10 lb smoke ] I know only the half blood knot, but I am confused about which knots are suitable for braid The web says different suitability for the same knots. I would realy like some help from you guys that have experience !! I use bottle squid & prawns as bait ..I have not learnt how to use a soft plastic lure yet Is the polamar knot O K for braid. Many Thanks Mike Post
  10. Hi all I am a new member & a new fisherman. I have some use of a holiday cottage at Carey Bay lake macquarie It has a jetty, but there is considerable weed. I have bought a graphite 7 ft rod & good reel. I have used many baits & found bottle squid gets most bites. Lots of small bites but have only got 2 keepers in many many hours of enjoyable effort I will be back there again on June long week end & think I might use a float on the line. Can anybody suggest suitable hooks, bait, rigs,...... ANYTHING ....that could help me catch a fish in your beautiful Lake This is my first email to your website so I hope I have asked the right questions Thanks micren
