  1. Thanks for the advice, Hodgey, I'll definitely take that on board. Excuse my ignorance, but what do the terms "crystal" and "fireline" (and I'm sure there are a few others) mean?
  2. Excellent. Thanks for the help, fellas. My old man has 6'6" rod, rated at 3-5 kg. I'll rig it up with your recommended line weights and see how I go next weekend. Is there much of a difference between a 2-4 kg rod and a 3-5 kg rod when it comes to casting light lures? And I take it that, the lighter the lure, the more whippy the rod needs to be?
  3. G'Day Grant, Can you give me some more info on what a soft plastic outfit would contain?
  4. Thanks for the quick replies, lads. The reel is a Shimano Sienna 2500, main line is 8lb I believe, and the lead I was using was 25lb. What information can I give you on the rod? I'm still getting used to all the lingo and terms. James.
  5. Hi all, I'm relatively new to the fishing game, so be gentle . I've decided to give the poppers a go, targeting bream and smaller tailor as I've been fishing mainly around Apple Tree Bay. So on my most recent trip to the tackle shop, I lightened my wallet by buying a value pack of 5 Gilles make/brand poppers (5-6 cm in length), and with plastic bodies. I took a trip down to ATB yesterday to wet a line, but had a bit of trouble casting the popper a respectable distance (I don't have a boat, so all my fishing is from the banks). The action looked excellent, but the lack of the popper's weight stopped me from getting it out very far. I ended up putting a couple of small slit sinkers on the line about 15 cm back from the popper. This helped me get the popper out a bit farther, but the action was affected. Is it possible to get small poppers that are made of metal, and therefore have some more weight behind them compared to plastic? If so, which makes and models would you guys recommend? Cheers, James.
