  1. Nah, caught at the Mud in JB as Keeping_TABS assumed. And 'Phar Cue' is the name of my 4.5 Markham Whaler
  2. 14 kegger went about 110cm long and was about 15cm at the shoulders. Big fat bastard. The others were 103cm - 105cm. All caught on 15kg.
  3. Fished out of JB saturday on my mates 6.8m 'Gee-Wizz' for YFt. After hearing of plenty of Fin being caight we thought it would be a breeze. Anyway fished all day for zero's, went out to the 1,500 fathom line, super conditions but no Fin. There was a comp on and listening to the radio no one had turned a reel. Tried some bottom bashing but again zero's. Sunday came and gave us similar conditions but we thought we would try something a bit different. We filled up the live bait tank with yakka's and slime and headed out near the Banks. Tried 2 spots and had cuttlefish monster out baits then hit another sly spot. First drop must have landed on a Kingies head cause as soon as the bait was at the depth it went BANG! Up comes 14kg of muscle. The next 4 baits came up with 2 x 11kg and a 9kg and a dropped shark. They went off after the shark turned up, so 45kg of Hoodlums and we were off home. Not bad.
  4. Hi John Don't have a pic other than the last photo. You can see the skirt behind the fish. It was a Pakula Lumo Sproket.
  5. Depth was about 280m, 24.6C water. It did run some nice blue through it though it was fairly dark almost to the underbelly. Not many full shots to tell.
  6. Bez and I headed up to South West Rocks between Boxing Day and New Years. Fairly quiet all in all though we did release an estimated 80-90kg Black on 15kg mono. Caught her on the troll with a Pakula. The fish came out of no where and launched out of the prop wash and on top of the skirt. Tail walked and porpoised like a maniac for a few minutes then spent the next 30 minutes under the blue stuff. Got her to the side of the boat, took out the hook, couple of photo's and swam her back to freedom. Very nice.
  7. Yes raiders the little fella was swum and resucitated and off he went to become an even bigger billfish. There has been some controversy if it's a sail or a marlin, so we await a PROFFESIONAL response. But I don't care, sail or beak it's still goes down as one of the flukiest catches and it has started huge controversy. And no, the grand daddy sail was caught some distance away but around SWR. Cheers
  8. Here are a couple of others The yellowfin was also caught about the same time as the baby sail on sp. The shark was caught on a frigate thrown at its head (also saw the same shark take the feet off a tern and try to eat the rest of him!!) Spanish on the troll As far as catch and release go, only keepers were 2 spanish and one dolphin fish. We love doing our bit for the ocean. Every other fish caught went back. Would bring a tear to some but stuff em. "They look better in the water than they do on a plate"
  9. We were chasing yellow fin and frigates which were schooling. We were trying to get a frigate we could throw out into the frenzying whalers for a bit of fun. Out was tossed a small plastic intended for a frigate when low and behold the little tacker jumps on it and starts tail walking. It was pretty much sculled in but can you imaging a 35cm billfish tail walking? OOOoooooh how cute.
  10. Bez and I got 2 sailfish yesterday at SWR. A juvinile of about 35cm & and a grand daddy over 50kg but the verdict is not out yet. The juvinile was caught on a soft plastic amongst a school of feeding sharks, fin and frigates. The grand daddy on live bait. Also caught a bucket load of other species including dolphin fish, yellow fin, whalers and a couple of 9 kg spanish mackeral. Haven't had a better weekend of fishing.
  11. Hey Rod Nah it was gem conditions. Where were you?
  12. Aaaahhhh, the bay of plenty. And there is plenty there. Cheers
  13. Clutch Where were these caught?
  14. Got out on the water with mate Bez this morning on Phar Cue my little 4.5m Markham Whaler at about 6.30. Great conditions as we left the Heads and shot up to a little favorite spot somewhere between Manly and Palmy. Cubed up and in no time had a nice Red of about 45cm. We kept up the cube spread with the current running about 8 knots and Bez is on with what we thought was a ray. Low and behold we see colour and up comes a little Bronzey. He had one look at the boat and was off like a wounded bull. Finally got him on the boat for a quick photo, removal of our hook (and someone elses) and back in the drink. Wind was about 10 knots with just a bit of bite in it. More cubes were thrown in to the excitement of a fat Tern who just wouldn't leave us alone and 'Bang' Bez is on again. Another nice Reddie of about 55cm was hauled on the deck. More cubes go in and Bez is on again. Line starts tearing off the TLD 15, lock up and suddenly 'Crash', out of the water comes a beautiful little Mako about 4ft cartwheeling behind the boat. It was awsome, little bugger launched a number of times about 5-6 foot in the air before.............. you guessed it, 'ping', his little K9's cut the 7kg mono. It all quietened down after that (funny that) so we headed south along the cliffs in search of some Salmon just to finish up a great morning. But, no Salmon anywhere. Decided to head home pretty satisfied with the session and tonight's dinner should be sensational. Cheers Tommo
