  1. Crew of More Charisma, who fished the comp got one mako on saturday and left at 12.30 on Sunday.

Also confirmed that these guys know there fish and are excellent at what they do!

The sight of such a fish is precious and would be quite overwhelming. We had had only one white (which ended up being hooked), but our estimates were about 14-15 feet with a weight of ???????, but it eat a bait being wound in took off and peeled 250-300m on 24 at sunset before straightening the hook!I will try and find a pic of the 14/0 sea master and post.

I can't start to imagine what that thing would have been like. WOW!

  2. Never a problem.............. lost fish means that they are either around, we raised them, they took a bait or lure and that's the way it is sometimes. Part of what happens! We have 'lost' or not had a good look at fish due to many reasons over the years. eg. the leader that touches the hull when the fish takes one last run in 3m seas, or when the mako gets cut off by (we think) another in the water...... so NOT an issue and :05: see ya soon, dale

  3. long run home in the dark there mate, sapose the fishing been so good for so long that we expect it to continue but sometimes it doesnt work out ,hopfully they will be back in force soon,we cubed for 7hours two weekends ago for zero ,nothing to break the monoteny of throwing 10pieces over the side

the fish that have been caught have been on the oversize catagory so they keep you going out ahh

hope you have better luck next time, hopfully wont be long till we hear the tiagra,s howl

on a side note is it me or is it strange that on a couple of occasions we have caught one or two albis on the cube but the whole school hasnt come up the trail, surley 4 to 8kg albaies dont wonder the oceans alone ?

    cheers arman

Yep, we have got the odd albaie often, but just the one /two...... and also expected things to 'go off' or at least

pick up a few more. We drop a fish 10-12feet from back of the boat 2nd last trip, couldn't tell if it was a little fin or a little bigger albie????

As to the trip, home. it was a great night, 1/2 moon and at 22knts, just point her in the right direction and

press the button! Reelmagic stuff!!!!!!!!!! fantastic night for a change.

We will probably start fishing for Makos form now on................ had a good run last year with 21 hook-ups!

the biggest tagged about 390+ and biggest weighed 187kgs.

    regards, dale

  4. We fished in 1100m from 12.00 to 6.00pm last Tuesday. 55kms out sse of browns about 19kms.

Great weather and sea conditions. Fished in 18.6 degree water and drifted at 1.2knts to the NNE. Water colour was good, cubed quiet heavily AND didn't turn a reel this time! Picked up a small albacore on a cube a few days earlier.

  5. Thanks Raiders

It does make me very proud to be able to post photos of fish caught on my best mates boat.

Glenn has lived in my shadow for a long time. I guess that's what happens when his old man has been around boat building and fishing most of his life.

He has the advantage of youth and enthusiasm and it gives me enormous joy to see him do so well. He is a most respected Skipper who goes about his trade with great dedication without a lot of fuss, getting the job done in a most professional manner.

    Proud.............bloody oath.

As we all know, he's obviously had a very good teacher, and to his credit, he listened, learned and put his knowledge into practice. A great effort !!!!!!!! ......... great stuff!

  6. Dont even talk about the carpark especially interclub time lol!!! Its like browns on a busy day ten fold but there are boats backing up left right and centre. With so many boats drifting live baits 10 metres away from each other dont be surprised if your marlin pops up on the other side of the boat next ya lol :1prop: It is frustrating but sometimes thats how it is

    Daniel

Very true, BUT the issue of fishing etiquette is raised here, along with "experienced fishos' being mindful off others........ especially for the small boats. The big ones will troll straight at you on across your bow , and it is the little boats that MUST give way!!!!!!

They certainly feel that they MORE right to the fish/ fishing spot, than the 'little' boats.

    That's how it shouldn't be!

  7. A couple of things I will add,

In the middle of YFT season, when you can see 100 odd boats over the mountain you cant expect to start a shark trail on the mountain and not have it crossed or disrupted by people that simply dont know better. its not a perfect world, especially on weekends.

Also, the fact that you own a 30+ foot boat, does not give you any authority or privileges over smaller vessels, like stewy said, no one owns the water and the smaller vessel has the same right to be there as a bigger vessel, be it cubing or trolling.

    Chris

I you have ever been at the car park, off Port Stephens, you will quickly remember that the bigger DO in fact, charge around backwards 'hooked up' and many do not care who is in the way. You have to have your wits about you, and prepared to move very quickly, even though you have a fish on as well.

  8. No dramas mate im sure your on the mark. It is fat.

Ive seen alot of over estimated fish in the last 2 weeks tho.

I know it doesnt really matter, but sort of takes the shine off all the real 50+kg fish caught.

Came across a few boys at the boat ramp telling evryone they had 90+kg fish in the trail and had landed a few 60kg fish. When i saw the fish on the table i nearly fell over. More like 35kg fish.

Yeah there alot of big fin in sydney at the moment but not everyone is catching 50+kg fish. 50kg fish is a fish of a lifetime to most, looks like the fish of a lifetime will now be 100kg.

The thing with Yellowfin is, they look alot bigger than they really are.

Its not an issue for us! The first time I have posted anything, as we were in no mans land , very wide

very late at night 53 clicks offshore........... came home at 8.00pm

Next time, I MIGHT just say we catch a few fish in the ocean.

(at best) I really don't care! We fish often and are successful and love game fishing. AND..... we do catch gamefish! Just thought people might be interested, as I have spoken to some great guys of late!

  9. very nice fin there boys . was just starting to think were starting to thin out abit and come down in size till this report very nice. that pic there is that the big one or the little one . chicka

The little one, the guy in the left corner was trying to keep the other 'at bay' whilst we tender to this one!

  10. Hi Nic Nac, Heard you out there yesterday............ we collect bait in bait bay nth of the hacking! We have used slimies and yakkies over the last few trips combined with cubes. Worth the trip down IF you are struggling in Botany. ALWAYS consistent here! Use the smaller ones though.

Last night we got a 55kg on smaller yakka.

The big ones are not hooking up (dropped four using different techniques). We also got a 70kg fin at 6pm last night on a whole pillie whilst fighting the 55lg. Regards, reelmagic :1fishing1:

  12. hi there,

I am interested in getting into some of the gamefish this season off sydney. I have a boat but it's not big enough to get seriously amongst it. would be happy to take you fishing inshore in it.

I have past experience as a deckie working on charters out of the gold coast so i'm not a novice.

I can chip in for fuel and am available fairly often because i am a shift worker.

I also have all my own gear. Super keen to get out wide.

    pm. me if your interested!

    cheers, alex
