    Mrs Flightmanager

    Happy Birthday all...

  2. Mate, all I can say is make your first fishing trip chasing milkies!!

I say with no doubt at all that pound for pound probably the strongest fish in the water... They fight an incredible fighting fish!!

When you go send me a pm and I'll speak to me mates up there see if they can show you around...

  3. I was fishing in a pond near mine (no fishing pond) so I thought use the handline and lets see how these carp go...

Well apart from line burn and getting chased by a ranger I couldn't tell you how they went, but I do agree that if carp are there why can't us fishos do our bit for nature?

Honestly, if your going to catch and eat a carp (unles you know what your doing) goodluck!!

    Cheers

    Ben

  4. Roosterman are you prepared to go out time after time, filling up swimming pools of water, catching live bait, upgrading your tackle to something more along the lines of a GAME reel (TLD50 with 24kg line, TLD 30 and 15kg line or north coast style light game reel with 10kg line) walking with 20+kg of gear on your back through the bush.

    then waiting

    then waiting

then hooking up fighting a fish for 30mins of complete back breaking hell and adrnalin to lose it at the gaff?

Then a couple of times a season, if you put in the serious time, effort and back breaking work maybe just maybe taking a few BIG fish home? Well if you are then check your p.m.

20kg on your back? You must fish light....

    Haha...

  5. Handled properly and bled straight away and cleaned in fresh saltwater most small sharks are quite palatable.

Shovelnosed Sharks or Rays as they are sometimes called can be cleaned just like any other fish except the skin must be removed and there is a bit of waste trying to do this.

I must stress that they need to be cleaned quickly and not just left on the sand for ages as they can get a nasty taste through the flesh if not looked after.

The cooking is just like any other fish and battered will make an acceptable meal.

    Regards Stewy

    Cheers mate,

Best left to fight another day you rekon? I might give the next one a go on the BBQ...

  6. G'day Fellow Raiders,

Got a question that I am hoping someone may be able to help me with...

I have spent many fishing sessions on the beach and rocks, and normally can rely on catching a couple of shovel noses each session.

Here the question lies, I was at my local yesterday talking about fishing with 'rex hunt' - thought he knew more!

And he reckons that shovel nose sharks are great eating, he said that they are just like a big flattie...

Was wondering what everyone else thought... If they are good how do you clean and cook??

Thrown back many feeds for nothing else by the sound of it...

    Cheers

    Ben

  7. Worth eating? Doesn't seem to be a short supply of them and they seem quite meaty, like a flathead.

    Hey mate,

I have heard many people say that they are great eating... Personally I have never tried, not something I go out of my way to catch, however like I said, I have heard that they are great to eat, maybe give the next one a go on the BBQ...

Anyone else heard they are good or tried them before?

    Cheers

    Ben

  8. Hi all,

as the title says, thinking of taking a charter soon in Jervis Bay...what you I expect to catch? What about land based?

    Cheers

    Catchy

    hey mate,

If your thinking of heading down or when you do PM me if keen to go for a fish...
