  1. yer ur right nic ally king the advertising on both etetc and opti is a little bit over done when i first seen the video i was amazed about the tug of war between the etec and yamaha but i think that if you did this yourself in real life the etec will have more pull than the yamaha but wont pull the yamaha back that fast and capsize a boat that quick either. if you look at the mercury website it show results of motors out performing others but in other videos the results show the opposite its all a bit dodgy
  2. mate dont even bother with four strokes thier a thing to heavy and slugis of the past upgrade to a direct injection two stroke it wil have better fuel econmoy than a direct injection four stroke better milege faster speeds lower service costs if l was you i would buy a mercury optimax or evinrude etec i prefer the etecs more quiet and only have to service every three years. trust me most people who had a four stroke and gone to an etec or optimax would reconmend them to you over a four stroke check out this video
  3. you can check on places like ebay and try and find a motor similar age to yours and see what its going for. ubgrading to an etec will be the best thing you will do mate trust me the power and fuel econmony is great im a real big fan of direct injection two strokes thier alot better than 4 strokes
  4. your boat looks capable of going offshore just dont go out in big swells but no one does that normally anyway the one thing that you have to worry about is your motor is it a 2 stroke because trust me old 2 strokes are not very reiable motors and if you get struck in a bad swell you want a motor that you know won't stall or breakdown on you easily and you know that you can start easily i have seen countless old and new carberated 2 strokes take hours to start plus they eat heaps of fuel. How big is your fuel tank as well you got to make shore that you can get to your spot and back with about a quarter of a tank left. Your motor is one of the most improtant tools for going offshore it gets you A to B if you dont trust it then dont go offshore. Good motors that are very reiable are evinrude etecs i know i ve got one myself, yamaha four strokes, suzuki four strokes but i would reconmend an etec alot more power speed and more fuel efficent and you only have to service it once every three years but if you dont have the money to buy a new motor dont worry about it get a motor you can trust to be reilable that suits your price range.
  5. has your prop hit anything when you where driving if that happens it can really screw up your gearchase especailly if it is a stainless steel prop because they dont bend when you hit a snag or log so all the pressure goes on your gears
  6. me and dad want to go marlin fishing and l have done it once on a charter and dads done it twice l know what tackle l need and how to live bait but i dont know where to go out of and which direction to go in. how far out do you have to go, where is the schools of slimie mackeral do they hang around percific areas or move long distances. and where to lauch botany bay , sydney ?
