Hi Guys, Heading up to Pittwater tomorrow to try for a kingfish. Going to be windy again, but worth a try. I have heard of places up there like 'The Supermarket', 'Kingfish Highway', 'Bothams Reef', 'The Wrecks' and 'Jacks' but have no idea where they are. Any advice on how I can find these marks? I have stumbled across a few smallish wrecks in the area using my sounder and GPS but the above spots seem like well known places. Thanks in advance....

Thanks for the tips guys. So many options. Good to here the barra dams fish well over winter. I haven't done alot of snapper fishing but am keen to try for them using soft plastics. Boat is only 4.5m so would have to pick the days for heading to some of the closer reefs to try for them.

Hi, I have two weeks annual leave at the end of July and was trying to figure out a good place to go for a fishing trip. I live in Sydney and have a 4.5 centre console (suited to bays and occassional trip outside). I know its winter so alot of fishing won't be as hot as in summer but any ideas of where to go? I was thinking either the bass/barra dams of South East Queensland (although not sure how this fishes in July). Or, possibly staying down at Jervis Bay on NSW south coast (how does this fish at this time of year?). Any kings around Jervis Bay at this time. Open to any other suggestions. Thanks

Thanks guys. I think the big boat stores have those small single seat 'leaning posts' for casting etc. but I was looking at seating setup for a centre console. I think custom made might be the only way to go.

I have a small cc (4.45m). I was looking at different seating options (it currently just has a big esky with padding on top). I reckon a small leaning post would be great. They seem popular in the USA, and that is the only place that seems to sell them. Anyone know of somewhere in Australia that sells them? I suppose a custom welding place would be an option, but a little expensive?

Thanks for the tips Geoff. I don't have access to a camera at the moment but I was thinking of doing it just like the picture you posted. The area is just flat aluminium but smaller in size than in your pic. If I go to a boat shop and by a 1-1/2 inch hose fitting to put through the box (one with a hose connector at each side) can I just buy a piece of plastic tubing like you have that will fit over the inside section? I will use a jigsaw rather than an angle grinder (more control is the reason I suppose?) Thanks

Thanks for the tip Nick. I will be working right next to the fuel tank and may have overlooked that fact (could have ended in disaster). They have some cordless angle grinders at bunnings but do you think this be powerful enough? Or should I go a non-cordless model? I have an old jigsaw but do I need any special blades for cutting aluminium? Thanks

Yeah, thanks. I thought that might be the case. I'll just put the inlet hose at the top. It is not a big tank (maybe 20 litres) so don't think water circulation will be an issue. Any ideas on the best way to cust out a square in the aluminium to fit the box in? I was going to pick up a cordless angle grinder to do the work. Thanks

Hi guys, I have a 4.45m stacer CC. I have bought one of those plastic fish boxes and am going to cut a hole in the back corner of the boat to flush mount it as a live bait tank. I have a 3/4 inch host attached to bilge pump and pickup-scoop and have bought a 1-1/2 inch hose for the overflow. Obviously the overflow goes at the top of the box, but where should I put the inlet hose? In the past I have also put the inlet host at the top but have read that this does not circulate the water as well. Is it okay to put the inlet hose at the bottom? Or will water then drain out the inlet hose when the pump is not turned on? Thanks

Thanks for the advice guys. Often I put down a whole live squid, and it come up with the head and tentacles gone and just the hood left. Now I am sure they are not kings biting it, I will just move on. Maybe yakkas are a bit more resilient to this problem.

Hi, Any advice on how to stop pickers taking live squid. I spend hours trying to catch squid and then when I anchor up around the Sydney Harbour markers, I often lose them within minutes. I am not sure if it is pickers, or is it possible for kingies to pick the squid of the hooks (are they that smart?). I fish with a 4/0 or 5/0 hook through the hood and a decent sized treble down near the head. I can often feel decent sized 'bites' on my heavy gear and wonder if that is the kings pecking at the squid but avoiding the hooks??? Thanks heaps in advance.

Yeah, I 've found a couple of times that the snelled knot has come free and the hook is just sliding up and down the main leader. Still got the fish though

Thanks Slinky, I have also seen guys tying the sliding knot to a small piece of plastic coating around the main leader. Do you know what that plastic stuff is? I've been to tackle shops but can't find anything like it.

Hi, I use a sliding snell for live squid when after kings. The other day, I landed a 85cm king that had gone for the top hook (the towing hook). The knot tying this hook to the main leader had totally unraveled. The main leader was threaded through the eye of the top hook so it was just free to slide up and down the main leader. Do you think this is okay? (the the hook just sliding on the main leader). I have had a few issues with this knot before and not sure if I have quit got it right. I much prefer the sliding rig as I can tie all my rigs the night before and then it doesn't matter what size squid I catch, I can also fit the rig. Thanks

1.5m in the harbour. Wow! I've seen reports of big ones in NZ and around Lord Howe Island but didn't know they got that big in Sydney.

Hi, I started fishing for Kings this summer. It has been slow process, but after much effort, I think I am finally getting the hang of it. Have landed 7 kings, 3 legal ones, and the biggest went 85cm. Mainly on downrigged live baits. I was wondering how big the kings get around Sydney Harbour? Do the 1m fish live in the harbour or do you have to go outside the heads? Thanks

Hi everyone, Just wondering if it's possible to buy bait (squid) for kings? Fresh whole Hawkesbury squid from the fish markets? Or is that still not going to be fresh enough. I've also heard that some of the fishing shops sell squid as bait that has been vacuum sealed by the pro's who have caught them. Wondering if that would be a possibility. Thanks guys, Bo

Hi Guys, I was interested in trolling lures for salmon. Was wanting to troll around with a lure out while looking out for any surface action. I was thinking of using a small fly tied about a foot to a meter behind a small metal lure. I think I would need the metal to add a bit of weight. Do you think this would be possible/effective? Hi, I just ordered a Penn slammer 560 online but the 560L turned up. Not sure whether to return it or not? I like the slammer because it is so simple, and the extra parts may make more areas for failure. I will be mainly using it for spinning, but will sometimes drop a live bait down (however, I normally just open the bail arm, i've never used a bait-runner type reel). Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks
