  1. Baz, I used the electric on the first run and had no hits. Used the outboard on the second pass and picked both fish up. I was using Knols lures mate. 3 metre divers. Dark top with a pink under belly. Cheers
  2. Hi all, Launched at Wisemans Ferry the other day. Went down to Gunderman for the last of the run out. Trolled some bibbed lures in 2-3 metres of water during the last hour of the run out. Picked up one at 65 cm and , then a second flatty at 45cm in the same area of water. Happy with the feed, I moved up to deeper water with some Hawkesbury Prawns. Had a couple of good hits but did not hook up. Unfortunatley I had a curfew issued by ther wife so I could not stay but I had a good feeling and wish I had. A good jew would have been worth the tension when I got home. Wisemans is starting to fire finally I think. Happy hunting, Brado[attachmentid=48336
  3. Hi all, Went down to Brooklyn yesterday (Monday). Was on the water at about 7.30am and the conditions were perfect. I have a v-nose bass style boat so it has never left the river. I was able to get out and play around with schools of what I think were taylor, which were busting up the surface past the heads. The ocean was flat. I was trying to catch bait for the up and coming Hawkesbury classic, but with no success in the bait department I headed back in the an old faithful spot for some flatty's. I usually fish this spot a couple of hours before the end of the run out, however decided to give it a go regardless of the tide. I have been using the same soft plastic now for the last three outings when chasing the flatties. It's a black and gold speck prawn with a clear resin head, about 75mm long and I think it is a Squidgy. They love it. Fifth cast and it got smashed. Pulled in a fat 52cm flatty, which had swollowed it. I found that there was little movement in the drift and I worked the same 50 or so metres around the boat for about 2 hours. Managed to hook a futher two fish, one which I saw spit my plastic back at me boatside and sink back into the depths as I reached for my net, and the second I never saw. The wind picked up a bit and made things a little more difficult. After plenty of 'taps' and missed opportunties, and no further fish in the boat I called it a day, happy with a good feed big enough for me and the kids. Great day out on the water............and there appears to be heaps of flatty's around. Can't wait for my next outing. Sorry, no pics...forgot the camera. Happy hunting. Brado.
  4. Hey all, Went down to Wisemans Ferry on Saturday night. Last minute decision. Got some Hawkesbury Prawns thank god but no time to get some other larger baits. Tried a spot I had heard some good things about. Fished the last of the run out and the beginning of the run in. Cold, wet and 1,000 catfish later.....I left. Havn't got a decent fish down there for nearly 12 months. Slowly losing interest in the area, though I keep going back. My best Jewie (so far) was caught down there so there is still a glimmer of hope. Hope the fishing is better else where. Happy hunting. Brado
  5. Yeah, lots of small fish. You have to work pretty hard to get something of a decent size. We were fishing around Ebenezer/Sackville. Cheers Brad
  6. Hi all, Went out for a bash yesterday afternoon at about 4.30pm. Fished the lower Hawkesbury using hard body lures around numerous rock walls and weed beds. We had several hits but no hook ups. The bass were tapping the lures with no ethusiasm at all. 7pm arrived and we moved to another large steep rock wall with deep water in front of it. While I untangled the birds nest from hell in my braid, my fishing partner had a couple of bursts of excitment as he was hit a couple of times but with no hook up. Then as he cast into the rocks landing the lure cm from the wall, the lure was smashed as it hit the water. The drag screamed in short bursts and he said, "This is a good one, my drags wound up pretty hard". I grabbed the net and he brought the fish to the surface. It was a good sized bass and his personal best. With a quick measurement and a photo, the bass went 39cm before it was released. I caught a little one before we moved. Tried several other spots with no luck. Hopefully they will be more hungry next time. Happy hunting, Brado
  7. Hi all, Went to Glenbawn Dam for the first time over the weekend. Travelled up Friday night and returned home Sunday morning. Went up with a group of mates. Six in total with three boats. Arrived about 11.30pm not knowing anything about the surrounds of the area. After about 20 minutes trying to search for one of the boys who had set up camp earlier that day, we found him. I had no idea how big the actual dam and surrounds are, and after this trip, I would recommend visiting the dam to anyone. Even if you don't fish and want a good place to camp.....Glenbawn Dam is a good option. After arriving, had a couple of quick beers before hitting the sack for an early rise. Up at 5.00am on Saturday with hi hopes after reading about the dam for several weeks prior to the trip. Only two of us went out at this time. The others wanted to sleep. Headed straight to some sunken trees and started throwing some hard body lures. Worked my way down to the furthest end of the dam stopping along the way at various spots with not so much as a tap. 9.00am came and I was thinking where are all the big bass this place has such a reputation for? We had a small wager amongst us which went to the biggest bass. I started to get frustrated after about 1000 cast with no interest so I headed back to camp and had some breaky. Went back out after breaky with my fishin partner for the day, (Freedomelite) at 10.00am. Went to about the middle of the dam and after again throwing hard bodies for a while with no result, decided to troll for a while around a near by island which I had been eyeing off. One the first pass, my little Abu 5600 screamed it head off. Finally a fish. Only a little bass but I was on the board and as far as I knew, the other boys had not had any luck. Covered alot of water from here with no result, throwing lures and soft plastics however could not get a hit. So we again started to troll round some weed beds. Off went the rods time after time and by about 1.00pm we had caught in excess of 10 bass. Great fun. One hit really hard and after the fish tangled with the braid on both other rods, and ran deep under a snag, we were left for about 15 minutes trying to get the fish up. Finally she rose to the top and it was a better fish (not huge) 34cm. I was now in front, unitl one of the other boys on the other boat caught the exact same size fish. I was splitting the wager. All went back in for lunch preparing for the afternoon session. Headed back out at 3.00pm. Straight back to the same spot, and using deeper divers (Stuckys lures) we started trolling over a tree and large drop off which he had found on the sounder. Again, bass after bass, but they would not touch the lures is they were cast and retrieved...strange. Finally I was out done. My Shimano raider buckled over the reel screamed and kept screaming. I thought we were on to a monster. Freedomelite retrieced this one and to my surprise it wasn't as big as I expected given the hit, but it was bigger then mine. By one whole centermetre. He one the wager with this fish. Had seveal other hits and lost some big heavy fish (and lures). All fish were released.Headed back for the night for a few more beers and to listen to Freedomelite woffle on about his win. All and all, a great weekend, great weather and a fantastic place to visit. I will o back for sure. Happy hunting, Brado
  8. Hi all Went for a bass fish yesterday afternoon. Was not sure about any great success given the thunder storm earlier in the day, however it became humid in the afternoon and the bugs were singing which is always a good sign. Fished one spot for 15 minutes with no hits. Made our way two the second spot. No hits. Arrived a the third spot. My fishin buddy was on after his second cast. I was on not long after that. We fished this particular spot for about 40 minutes, and got smashed. In total, between us we caught 10 bass with the biggest being 35 cm. He put up a good little fight. Great fun. After about 40 minutes a cool breeze blew up and like a switch, they went off the bite. Good session except for all the wake boats which continue to hammer the river system. Here are a couple of pics. Happy hunting, Brado
  9. Went out through Botany to Browns Yesterday on a mates boat. Great conditions. Small swell, slight breeze and sunshine. Couldn't ask for a better day. Now all was needed was the fish. Left Botany Bay at 4.30am. Dropped the skirts out the back about 10 km from Browns just in case something was hungry. Arrived at Browns at 6.30am. Trolled around for a few hours. First two hours, nothing but finally three of the five rods went off.........Stripies Got them off and continued. A little while later, more stripies......and more stripies.....and a few more stripies. Stopped trolling and started to cube in about 19.3 degrees. Two hours later and nothing. No other boats appeared to be getting anything either. Eventually decided to head back in closer and stop at both FADS on the way in. Through the skirts out about 10km from the FAD out wide of Botany. Water temperature increased the closer we got into shore. 21.5 degrees. As we approached the FAD, one of the rods screamed. Picked the rod up, reeled for a short time but dropped the fish. Nothing at the wide FAD so headed into the FAD in close. 22 degrees and heaps of Kings holding under the FAD. Ranging from Rats to a few better fish. Only had pillies on board which they were not interested in. Threw some squid out. Not interested in that either. I had no jigs so I threw a popper out. They had a go at it but no hook up. Lost interest in that pretty quick. Very frustrating seeing the fish a metre under the water and they wont take anything you offer them...but that's fishing. Another boat was catching a few on jigs. Eventually headed back to Botany after the wind blew up. Fantastic day but given the warm water, I thought we might have caught a few. Maybe its a bit early? Oh well. Better then a day at work. Happy hunting, Brado
  10. Hey Pete, Yeah mate, lots of little ones, and you have to put the hours in for anything of a respectable size. I have to say though, I have never had that many hitting the prawns before (even though some were tiny) Cheers, Brad
  11. Hi Zenman, Yes the 60 cm was the biggest. I caught him about 2 hrs before pulling up stumps. Prior to leaving I literally could not get a prawn on the hook quick enough before it was hit, so I would have been interested to see if he would have been topped. Great fun. Brad
  12. Hi all, This is my fiist post. I have been reading for months and love the feedback. Anyway, went to an old faithful spot at Wisemans Ferry Yesterday. Put the tinny in at 1.30pm and fished till 7pm. Caught the change of the tide (from hight to lthe run out) Took a bag of Hawkesbury Prawns for bait. Within five minutes of sinking the first prawn, had my first jewie on board. Tiny, but fun non the less. Released unharmed. This continued till about 5.00pm. I reckon I must have had about 30 small soapies on the boat before the change of tide. All put back to grow alot bigger. I was running fast out of prawns. Finally at the change of tide, all my rods went off at once. Talk about mayham, all rods bent over and I decided to pick up the trusty Shimano raider (which was bent over the most). 60 cm Jewie on the end which I got in the boat. Released about 30 but this one was going on the the dinner plate. After the change of tide. Managed a further four flatties. I kept two for dinner. Eventually, 7.30pm and I was out of prawns. Great session. Lots of fun. Keep up the great reports. Thoroughly enjoy the read. Sorry, no picks. I'll wait till I get one worth taking a photo of. Cheers, Brado
