    Bouddi Np

G'Day, Has anyone done any rock fishing in the Bouddi national park? I can't find any information about the area other than that there's a fish sanctuary around Maitland Bay. Cheers!
  2. I've got an old rod with rusted out guides that I intend on rebuilding (or at least have someone do it for me). Before I go ahead I want to strip off of the old guides and reel seat. Is there a recognised technique for this? What sort of solvent should I use to dissolve the epoxy? Cheers!
  3. These two characters deploy their their baits by surfboard, quickly paddle in, and then play the sharks on a custom chair mounted on their 4WD! Reeling in great white sharks
  4. The Snyderglass CR145 3 wrap rod that I used for blackfishing from the rocks today came to the end of its natural life. I'm not sure what to replace it with - I'm attracted to the GP3145 pacific composites blank (1 pc) in graphite, but how well will this handle the occasional drummer? Also, can someone recommend a place in Sydney where I can have the rod built to my specs. I'm on the North side. Cheers!
  5. Had a top-notch afternoon blackfish session at Rosa Gully today. The swell was a bit too much for my favourite water level position so I hiked further north past the cave and had a go at the higher ledges near the water outlet. I dropped the float in and started my drift. Once it had cleared the rocks I took my eye off it for a second to grab a handful of cabbage for berley and bang(!) I was on. A few minutes later I lifted a seriously fat blackie onto the platform. And this was the pattern for the rest of the day! Action was constant, in 2 hours I landed 5 fish & dropped 4 others (the bony mouths of blackfish blunt chemically sharpened hooks very quickly!!! ) Kept 2 for dinner and let the rest go. The fish that I killed were stuffed to the gills with cabbage weed. Slipped in the mud at the top of the gully on the way back and got covered in sorts of crap and slime but hey, you can't win all the time.
  6. Has anyone used braid for floatfishing? I'd like to give it a try because I believe it floats (?) and its more abrasion resistant than mono. Cheers!
  7. Had a fairly frustrating morning at Rosa Gully. Got busted off by a good pig just after sunrise, it ducked straight under the ledge I was fishing on and proved impossible to control on my light luderick gear. Lost everything, float included. Was busted off by another soon after, this time on the reefy bottom. Had several other hookups on what felt to be luderick but I just couldn't make the hook stick today. Still, it was good to get out of the house for a few hours, not withstanding the rain & the wind. And the trip home to the northside which took 1.5 hrs because of the f***ing marathon.
  8. I've never had much success beach fishing though I must admit that my technique is probably pretty naive. What do you target? The big jew on a slab of mullet /slimey or table fish on smaller baits?
  9. That's no excuse. Just bring along some of my patented blue-green algae pudding mix!Ingredients 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast 1/4 cup warm water 1 pinch sugar 1 cup whole wheat flour 1/4 cup rye flour 4 tablespoons spirulina 1 cup veggie broth Method 1. Combine yeast, sugar, and water. Allow to rest 10 minutes. 2. In a large bowl, combine flours and spirulina. Mix. 3. Add 1/2 cup broth. 4. Add more broth as needed to make a smooth dough. 5. Roll out dough on a floured surface and mould into fish or nipper shapes. Put any leftover pudding in a sealed container and store in the fridge for next time. Mate, if you don't catch your bag limit of blackies at Clifton this weekend on this stuff you're just not not trying.
  10. Sounds like a lot of fun, but even if you could get it to work it's counter-productive. Many times you won't need to cast more than 15 metres to get at the fish. You'd probably do better on the sand than to plonk a fixed bait 400 metres wide of a beach - you're into serious desert territory that far out.
  11. You weren't tempted to soak some of that lovely fresh weed at the spot? Mona Vale baths can be very productive for blackies and especially drummer on cabbage - a bit dodgy at anything other than low tide though. Also, Turimetta is just down the road and is reputed to be the best blackfishing spot on the northern beaches. Can't say that its ever worked that well for me though, however the ****wit ratio is low.
  12. That's a nice squid haul there. Did you have to burley them up or did you just jig for them at likely looking locations?

I was down there too, didn't see you though. You must have been on the Obelisk side. I had a decidely less productive day, 1 blackfish and one smallish drummer for 3 hours Superb afternoon though.

I've had the most success at Turimetta, Dee Why and Mona Vale. None of these spots involve any climbing at all. Cabbage or bread is the best bait. Mona Vale can be quite dangerous when there's a reasonable swell running - I was once washed off the platform while wearing cleats. I instinctively tried to hang on by pawing at the ground, but I only succeeded in ripping all the skin off my fingertips. But its an easy swim back to the beach if the worst happens.
  15. There used to be this killer A4 sized magazine of about 250 pages that covered pretty much every rock and estuary fishing spot in Sydney. The info in it was spot on ... the authors must have been totally obsessed. It was available at newsagents but I haven't seen it in years. Does anyone remember the name of it and where I might pick up a copy? I had one a few years ago, and I must have read it from cover-to-cover six times. The binding eventually fell apart and I stupidly threw it out. Cheers!
