  1. That is the best King I have ever seen caught on a lure off sydney. Amazing!!!!
  2. it was a sailfish cat - silver hull
  3. hi All, just a quick report, I headed out to the reef north of the botany fad. water temp was 24' and there was a stack showing on the sounder. couldnt get anything to take our jigs - My mate finally hooked up on a soft plastic but got dusted big time! there was profisheramn working the same spot with droplines. We watched them pull in over 40 kings from rats to 10 kilo fish with in 2 hours while we were there I still cant understand why the kings refused our offerings. overall pretty average session cheers JR
  4. makes a 2kg bonito look like another batifish!
  5. a few more pics - were there any other raiders out at the botany fad on sunday morning? I was in the small 5.0m black side console makocraft
  6. Hi guys, I have been a long time browser and enjoy reading the forums daily. I thought it was about time a shared a fishing trip with everyone as i still cant beleive myself how well sydney\botany is fishing at the moment. Due to the lack of legal kings around compared with last seasons i have been making my way out to the botany FAD to try and capitalise on the unbeleivably warm currents that are around at the moment. On sunday i knew with the southerly change predicted it would be a cracker of a day offshore early so i headed out to the fad. I found large bait schools on the sounder and managed to jig up 3 or 4 bonito in quick succession. I put out a live bonito in hope of a marlin and just drifted around the 70to80m of water near the fad. As there was not a breath of wind around I chucked a large squidy wriggler on to see if i could maybe hook a snapper while waiting for my bonito to be eaten. The chain of events that followed from that point on were amazing. The minute it hit the bottom on my first bounce of the rod tip i hooked up solid. Of course this was on my twin power 4000 with 15 pound braid and 20 pound leader so as i watched a 100m of line dissapear on the first run nearly spooling me that close to the bottom i thought it would be all over very quickly. After 15 minutes and 3 more giant runs that had me looking through the braid at my spool i was starting to think i must of lip hooked a large Wahoo as it had not reefed me yet. Another 15 minutes into the fight I started to think i might actually get to see what had eaten my lure. Finally i get colour and to my disbelief a huge kingy takes one look at the boat then powers off again half way to the bottom. I get him back to the boat again slowly and make sure i take my time as i know i will only get one shot at this monster then the most amazing thing happens. A huge dolphin fish swims right up next the king and literally hangs around the boat for a minute or so. I got my mate to throw out a rapala x-rap at him but he showed no interest and eventualy swam off. I have been lucky enough to fish alot of great locations around Australia and overseas and i'm thinking to my self maybe i should just start fishing Sydney harder! I gaff the king and get him into the boat and are absolutely gob smacked at the size of him and the fact i managed to get him up on such light gear. He weighed in around 14kg and although i have caught bigger kings out of sydney nothing will compare to this badboy! - catching it so close to home on such light gear - to say i'm wrapped is an understatement! If you guys want to see anymore pics let me know and i will post them Cheers JR
